I've Never Had Garlic Like That Before - Edit
While the entire meal I ordered from Mirisata was excellent, I kid you not I'd come back just for the garlic cloves alone. They served some garlic as part of one of the combo meals, and I don't know how they got them so creamy. They melted in your mouth!

Surprising flavors, employee-owned - Edit
Mirisata is a miracle restaurant. Their roti, curries, and Lankan-Chinese dishes—I especially love the Deviled Chick'n and fried rice—are delicious and warming on a rainy winter day. I've genuinely enjoyed every dish I've tried of theirs.
Read moreThey provide a thoughtful menu of mild dishes for folks who might have issues with very spicy food.
Pros: Unique flavors, Great value, Worker-owned cooperative
Cons: Limited indoor seating, Might be too spicy for some palates

Miri-satiated - Edit
Been obsessed with Mirisata for some time and surprised to see that for some reason I forgot to leave reviews about it. Probably because whenever the food comes my mind goes blank and I turn into a wild vegan animal. The food here is whack you in the face spicy, blast of flavor, super unique for Portland. It's an obsession.

Service was friendly, and I took the staff recommendation of the daily special plate. That was yummy, as was the deviled chick’n dish my husband got. Expect spice and LOTS of flavor!

vegan Sri Lakan Cuisine in PDX - Edit
Ch ch check it out–Beastie Boys…harmony in my head
Read moreMirisata aka Sri Lankan Cuisine, which is worker owned cooperative is quite alright. My friend of many years in PDX does yoga and met him abroad in India many moons ago. While I have spent heaps of time in India, he has been to Sri Lanka and I have not.
He recommended this restaurant to me. The service was friendly. I went with the thali plate aka rice and curry plate. It was $24 USD and was authentic served on a round mandala silver plate with a banana leaf similar to how they serve thali in India.
I went with the Pol Sambol. Everything was flavorful and vegetable heavy so was healthy. My only gripe was that it was way too much food.
I wish they had different sized plates like my beloved Kaffa aka Ethiopian vegan cuisine in Berkeley does.
I ate half and took half home. I bounced. Ch ch check it out!
Pros: vegetable heavy and healthy, flavorful and authentic
Cons: portions too big

Delicious and Unique - Edit
Their Roti was especially good! Its small and thick as opposed to thin and mailable like an Indian roti. Plus it had coconut shavings in it which I found bomb. I ordered their platter of the day which came with a lot of stuff for $23 and two people ate from it 😊 I’ll try and post the menu pic I took. I bit into a cardamom pod while eating which was a green flag for me. Use them seasonings and fresh herbs!! Their green sauce had great kick, and their spiciest sauce was delicious 🤤 can’t wait to go back! Everyone was very kind too! Respectfully, the food could’ve been a little more salted for me. Overall, an amazing experience! 😊

Interesting and spicy - Edit
I'd had South Asian but not Sri Lankan food before, and wasn't sure what to expect. We ordered a range of things based on description. I stuck to what was described as 'street food', since that was the theme of the place, but we also had some other items. It was a bit hit and miss, and one of the dishes was so spicy that we all had trouble eating it - whether spice wimp or spice lover.
Read moreThe ordering process - stand at the outdoor counter, then pick up food - was a bit awkward for newbies, esp. as we sat inside and had to keep checking whether the food was ready.
I found it interesting, and I'd eat there again, but not search it out. One companion felt the same, while the other (the spice-lovingest) was much more eager to return.
Pros: Interesting, Unusual
Cons: Some dishes too spicy, Somewhat awkward ordering

So good but so spicy! - Edit
My partner and I thought we could handle our heat until we came to Mirisata. We did it to ourselves though by choosing some of the spiciest menu items. Love the concept of this restaurant and everything about it. We tried the Polos Cutlets, Chick'n Kottu, and Special plate of the day. Thankfully they were able to provide us with some oat milk to cool down the spice. 🔥🔥🔥

It’s delicious. Definitely a place we’d want to try more of their menu. Also love the gratuity being worked into the price of dishes. Servings seemed quite generous. Tons of outdoor seating with generous shade. We’ll be back.

I ordered the Fried Rice Combo Plate with kale mallum. I didn't like the kale, but I enjoyed the other foods. They were flavorful, but not spicy, which I appreciated.

Wow. Amazing. - Edit
This place is so good. But no mercy with the spicy levels 😅 I got a medium spicy level, but for me, it was extra extra fire volcano. 🥵 but I still loved it all. So many unique flavors I e never had before.

for the dish you ordered, the spice adjustment is only for the dahl. you got a side of chick'n curry it appears, which is the spiciest dish on the menu! so it's not just you! glad you still enjoyed it 🙂

Mandatory eating for Portland - Edit
If you’re living in or visiting Portland and you don’t eat here, you’re missing out. Rare to find a place committed to serving authentic ethnic cuisine while also staying vegan and building a successful co-op business. Food was so good, I will go here each and every time I’m in Portland

Fantastic food, reasonably priced, friendly service! - Edit
The staff here were extremely friendly and helpful with questions about dietary restrictions. The food was absolutely incredible, especially considering how affordable it was. It's a worker-owned coop that doesn't accept tips, so the price you see is actually what you pay. Food came out fast, can't really find anything to complain about!

Spicy Sri Lankan Goodness! - Edit
Everything here is amazing. If you are sensitive to spice, stick with foods where you can customize the spice level e.g. the kottu come at a “medium” as a baseline. Tip included in the menu price.
