Entrance is from Da Pu Rd (street address Xie Tu Rd)

I was in the area for a few days in late-March 2020 and I went here twice during that time, once for lunch and once for dinner. Both times they took my temperature, and both times I was the only customer in the restaurant. They did have some delivery orders though. One time I had a braised tofu dish and another time the spicy dumplings. Both were as pictured and tasted alright but were quite oily. One time the woman left the pot of tea at the table for me which was great, along with a packet of tissues, the other time there was a different woman and I had to get her attention to ask for a refill, and also to ask for a napkin.

Pros: open when other places were closed

Cons: oily

Found accidentally, not disappointed

Maruyama was closed for the day so I walked up the road to this place, conveniently. My friend and I ordered the “duck” with fried taro (our favorite), cold broad beans, spicy dumplings, toona fried rice, and pickled radish. We weren’t disappointed, the food was amazing. This place has several cakes advertised in their dessert menu. I confirmed with the waitress, who stated that they are all vegan. However, vegan or not, she then claimed that they have “no cake”. Not one. This was rather disappointing, as we really wanted to try the tiramisu, and how rare it is to find vegan desserts in Shanghai. This dessert conversation happened at about 1:45 pm, and I’m sure the staff has their lunch time at around 2.00 pm, so I would not be surprised if they have cakes but just didn’t want to serve us so close to lunch time/break time. That is the only reason why this place doesn’t have 5 stars from me. Oh, and also the fact that they never brought my friend her apple celery juice that she ordered.

Pros: Lots of menu options , Wonderful flavor , Has desserts (apparently)

Cons: Doesn’t have desserts?!, Possibly lying about not having desserts

Tasty and cheap

I went there with a bunch of non vegan friends an we were all super happy with the food. They have an iPad that shows all the dishes so it makes it easier to order since they don’t speak english very well. The portions are quite big and all in all it’s very cheap. Really recommend going there, it’s a little vegan heaven.

Early closing time

It does not close at 21.30, but 20.30. Hence, I only had the choice of dumplings. The chef had left at 20.30 already. Very early.

Not bad.

Large variety of Chinese vegan food. Staff is nice. Only wish for a bit more flavor in some dishes. Some were bland (wonton, bbq skewers, etc). However, very filling.

Pros: lots of options

Cons: more salt please

Great

Nice food, menu with pictures and English subtitles rather cheap and tasty. Portions seem to be big or at least what I have ordered came in very generous portions. Free WiFi and tea

Great Chinese Vegan food!!

The food was amazing! The sweet and sour mushrooms were fantastic! The location is at the pin but the store front picture was outdated. I've uploaded an updated picture for December 2018.

Très bon! L’endroit est calme mais sans ambiance particulièrement notable.

C’est bien mais sans plus.

Really quite good.

The restaurant looked fine, not upscale, not super cheap. The menu was on an iPad and had English. I ordered the wontons, the mushroom in black pepper sauce, and the sizzling mushroom (with tofu instead of mushroom), and all were tasty. I'd definitely come again.

Great vegan Chinese restaurant!

The food was everything I wanted . Hot soup with dumplings. The waitress gave me an iPad so I can see the menu and show her what I wanted to order. It was very convenient (usually difficult to order food in china). There is a large selection of food and also desserts.

Pros: Menu with pictures , Fresh food, Nice restaurant

Cons: Empty I hope they won't shut down

Rude and incompetent staff and owner

Food was mediocre. Staff is completely rude.
They open the door on a cold day, I close it, they open it again, then we tell them that the wind is blowing and cigarette smoke is coming right in. Their answer, the boss wants it open.
So much for customer service. Wouldn't go back if they offered free food.

Just fantastic

This small restaurant served me some of the best vegan food while in China. Went two times. The menu has 50+ things to choose from, many are familiar options such as dumplings (hot or not), mock duck, various fake meats and other things which resemble dead duck, pork and whatnot. It's great if you're into that sort of thing (which I am).
I went with my girlfriend and we eat a lot - still we managed to order too much food getting 5 items from the menu. The dumplings can take a long time to make for the chef, everything else is very quickly cooked. So just make sure to order those dumplings first - THEN the other stuff in a second round. Or just order tons of stuff to begin with.

As it is the case with many Chinese veggie restaurants, this place serves hot drinks and semi-cold juice. It's nice, but i would love a cold beer or any kind of cold drink really.

The staff is nice although they obviously find it a bit strange you are a white person into veggie food in China - because veggie food here is something religious more than a lifestyle choice.

I'd say go for it. Then go again.

Oh, and the price? Mid-range for China - which means cheap for you, probably (150 RMB for too much food for 2 people, drinks included). Nothing too crazy.

Pros: Delicious meal, Easy to find, Easy to order

Cons: Weird atmosphere, No cold drinks, Too much food (which is a pro, really)

Good but be careful of MSG

Nice staff (for China). They were accommodating when I had to do some work on my computer and stay a while using their wifi. Food was tasty and quick but quite sure my soup was heavy with MSG. Perhaps there is a way to request food without MSG.

Pros: quick, reasonable price

Cons: msg

Amazing Food!

The food was amazing, we expected small dishes but, instead, the portions were actually quite big and we couldn't finish it. The mock meat was very tasty, so were desserts. We highly recommend it!

Delicious Chinese vegan food!

Not always easy to know you are getting vegan, so this is a great little spot. Traditional Chinese dishes, everything vegan. Reasonable prices and serving sizes.

Pros: vegan , spotlessly clean, fresh

Standard Chinese dishes made vegan & unique dishes

With a pretty lovely atmosphere-- calm, nice furniture, and five-ten minutes walking distance from Dapuqiao Subway Station (Line 9)-- eating here was enjoyable. There is a big "Vegan" sign outside, so you can't miss this restaurant.

The menus are on iPads with good pictures and decent English translation. Lots of dishes are Chinese vegan-ified, like vegetarian duck, dumplings, stir-fried cabbage, and kebabs (chuanr), but there are some dishes that make use of vegetables in new ways to me, like tomato pancakes. A lot of dishes are fried or stir-fried here, but I did not try the "greens" dish that might be a little lighter. Portions are pretty big. Try the dishes with "thumbs up" recommendations on the pictures.

Ming Sheng also has tons of vegan desserts and fresh juices, so save room!

Pros: fresh juice, nice atmosphere, good value

Cons: lots of fried dishes

Great Place!

Excellent food, clean, reasonably priced, staff friendly and helpful to foreigners! Highly recommended. We'll be back for sure!

Since writing this review, we have been back several times. As of this writing, the owner informed me they would be closing for 6-8 weeks for remodeling. They are planning to open again around mid to end of May. If you find the place closed, please check back. The food, service, atmosphere is worth returning for!

Not NCC's review. The owner does speak English and can help if she is there.

Love it!

I have eaten here twice and have loved everything I've had so far. My favorite was the cold enoki mushroom dish and steamed dumplings.

It's restaurant style, with relatively small dishes for sharing. It's a bit more expensive than a more casual restaurant like 7 brothers vegan near by, but not by much. If you come in the night time hours, there is a lady who can speak English. She's very sweet and helpful. The menu is both in Chinese and English

Pros: Delicious food, Decently priced, Can speak English at certain times

Better than expected

We came here to pick up some take-aways to feed us on a long haul train ride. The restaurant was nicer than I had expected based on the previous reviews. Service was friendly although of course no English was spoken. We were delighted to see a note on the menu that no MSG is used.. there aren't that many places of this genre. The food did take quite a long time to prepare - so much so that we actually missed our train and had to hijack the following one (don't try it, it isn't very fun!!). Although it's hard to critique the food properly having eaten it from a plastic container, it all tasted great to us. While waiting for the rest of the order we had a dumpling soup and it was fabulous. Nothing was too oily (although we may have requested less oil, can't remember) and it was overall a positive experience. It was also very close to where we were staying so we wished we had have found it earlier!

Pros: no MSG, not too oily, simple but nice environment, some unique menu items

Cons: not very fast

First of all, this listing is not 100% correct. It is no where near XuJiaHui rd. It is actually on Da Pu Rd at the corner of Xie Tu rd (near number 768) which is approximately a 10 minute cab ride from Xujiahui. The food is medium inexpensive, with dishes ranging from around 20 rmb on up. Over all I found the food to be a little too plain for my taste, and the portions rather small, but a good place to go if you are in the area.

Pros: Vegan, Attentive staff, reasonable prices

Cons: plain food, small portions

Worth a visit for the vegan tiramisu cake alone

A short walk from Luban metro station. Convenient if you are staying at the Blue Mountain Youth Hostel. Good grub at a good price. Friendly service, but no-one there spoke adequate english making communication difficult, especially when ordering desert. I wanted to try the chocolate cake, but was told (I think) that I would have to buy the entire cake and couldn't just have a slice. They eventually brought me a slice of tiramisu cake which was quite simply to die for. There is a reasonable selection on the menu - the usual Chinese options including tofu, noodles and fake meats. All good quality and inexpensive. Surrounding is basic and clean - nothing fancy about this place, but thats the way I like it. Wasn't sure about the cat roaming around though, but it was cute and friendly enough and thankfully not on the menu.

Pros: good food, friendly service, english menu

Cons: no english spoken
