Disappointing, and not a healthy food place. - Edit
The service was bad. The staff didn’t let us look at the menu and kept suggesting expensive dishes. We had to ask him to give us time to choose and he went to a corner and stared at us till we were done.
Read moreWhen the started dish recommended came, he harassed me to take a picture of it. I didn’t want to take a pic, as the dish looked like 2 mud cakes with sprinkles on top, it looked like an artwork of a 4yo. I ended up taking a photo so he would stop telling me to do so. The dish was edible, but not amazing.
Because the curries on the menu had no description on them we unknowingly ordered a curry which its main ingredient was poppadoms (which is obviously not a health food!). That curry wasn’t good, it was so heavy (poppadoms are deep fried) and it was rather bland. The other curry we ordered, cashew curry, was good, so we had to share 1 curry between the two of us. Because of that, we didn’t eat all of our rice and naan. I told the staff we didn’t like the curry and he didn’t seem to care. Then he was a bit surprised we weren’t eating all of the rice and naan, but there was nothing to eat with it. We always eat all of our food, and never waste, but we weren’t going to eat plain white rice on its own. The cheaper rice, was pretty expensive for plain steamed rice, and we left the place still a bit hungry.
They have a misguided understanding of what healthy food is. ‘Oreo shake’ with actual Oreos, milk and ice cream isn’t healthy, don’t think I need to explain why. They had “guilt free pizzas”, as if removing a protein from wheat flour will make mozzarella a healthy food! Cheese is one of the main sources of saturated fat in the Western diet, and one of the main culprits of heart disease which is the main killer in many countries. Milk in itself is unhealthy, and cheese is far worse than plain milk.
Brown rice is not an option, rather weird for a place claiming to be healthy.
The staff seemed to understand what vegan is, but couldn’t tell us where the water used in their juices was from, so the only option was to order a coke or drink our own water.
Pros: Nice eating area
Cons: Not a healthy restaurant as claimed , Not cheap

Delicious, healthful and innovative - Edit
Beautiful, lively decor that reflects the rich culture of Rajasthan and also captures the healthful grounded spirit of this restaurant.
Read moreDelicious food. Loved the use of millets in several dishes in place of traditional grains. Many tasty vegan options as well. We had the tikki, the millet bhel, millet vegetable wrap, millet salad and millet pizza (with vegan cashew cheese) out of the innovative millet-based dishes and also went the traditional route with papad ki subzi and kali desi dal for the main course with multigrain millet rotis. Every item was excellent and they also made them without onion and garlic. The dal, subzi and roti had the flavor of home-cooked food that is prepared with a lot of love and left us feeling very satiated.
Our waiter, Mr. Mansa Rajput was extremely courteous and friendly as were all the other staff who took care of us.
Beyond the food, they also went above and beyond to put together two chairs to make a very comfortable little bed for my baby who was asleep when we arrived. Highly recommend this delightful place for all who come to Udaipur, especially vegetarians, vegans and conscious eaters.
Pros: Lots of vegan options/can accommodate Jain needs, Friendly staff and happy decor, Reasonable prices

Quality food at its best - Edit
I have been in India for now 7 weeks and have dined in a fair number of restaurants and cafes now. Some experiences great, some very poor. On this occasion I was so impressed on the food quality, taste and presentation, that for the first time during my travels in India I sent my greatest compliments to the chef. Yeah food takes a bit of time but that is India and I’ve realised it’s quite normal in India with wait time. So yeah the dishes came out one by one but I was so amazed in the food quality that I had no problem with the waiting time. My partner and I ordered the pad Thai, tacos and the vegan pizza. And oh my let’s start of with the pad Thai. Hands down one of the best I’ve had in a long time!! It actually tasted it was made in Thailand!! Tacos tasted fresh and full of flavour. The pizza is different compared to a standard takeaway pizza. It is small but delicious in its own way. Felt rather healthy eating it but delicious also! Staff friendly, decor cosy and vibes all positive. Overall highly recommend a visit and dine in if your ever in Udaipur!

Welcoming healthy food! - Edit
This was a great place and totally what we needed in India. All the gravies made us craving for healthy food. Here they are totally aware of the high amount of oil the Indian cuisine uses; here they are using way less oil. Also lots of vegan options, they even explain the concept of veganism in their menu. I had the vegan Indian tacos which were nice and for me enough for dinner.

Nice to have something other than classic curries and rice. Offer variations of Indian food in addition to western. Sometimes the food is not 100% hot but not the end of the world.

Bad service, very slow - Edit
When we arrived we were ignored so I had to chase the waiter to place the order. He didn’t note it down but memorized it (or not). Half an hour later, we didn’t even receive any drinks. It’s not like we ordered something extraordinary, it was chana masala and bhindi masala, pretty standard Indian dishes. So, bye bye we left. By the way the prices are quite high for India which we are happy to pay if the quality was there (including service). This seems like a vegan tourist trap.

Millets Surprise! - Edit
My vegan family and I first shared vegan food with Sunny and Manoj, the Millets of Mewar owners, when they were trainee chefs in 2006.
Read moreIt was a surprise and delight to visit Udaipur some years later and meet up with Manoj to be told there was a surprise waiting.
Wow, they'd opened Millets of Mewar and kept it a secret!
On every visit it is a delight to order fresh, often raw or sprouted vegan dishes.
I hope all vegan visitors to Udaipur will discover Millets and sample the current menu. Remember to ask questions about the food, the cookery classes and the local area. (And Animal Aid that is quite near.)
Pros: Fresh and raw food is safe., Water bottles can be topped up., Close to the centre old the old city

They charge 100 for one glass of lemon soda. The lemon rice was small portion. The food was very tasty though. Very hot place even though is roof top. I'd recomend the 109 cafe instead which has AC, is cheaper and also very tasty.

A must visit! - Edit
We ate here twice for dinner during our stay in Udaipur. Large menu with all vegan items clearly marked and labelled as well as gluten free options too. A lot of the other items can also be adapted to suit your requirements - the staff where really flexible. Would really recommend the pizza with the vegan cheese - really delicious! They are quiet eco-aware too and tend to use gluten free grains where possible due to the impact on the environment wheat has.

Good indian food - Edit
Food was very good and they take care of making your dish vegan. They can make vegan indian dishes that traditionnally contain dairy.
Read moreNice and cosy place. Great terrace with view on lake.
However, staff was so so. Nice but one waiter didn't give us the right change. I don't know if he was doing that on purpose but he strangely didn't understand when we said that some rps where missing. Next time, another waiter tries to make us order a lot of things more than our wishes.
Pros: Coconut milk for hot drinks, Can make vegan traditional indian dishes
Cons: A little bit expensive, Don't really know the intention of staff

No English- vegan items not marked on menu - Edit
It is hard to rate a place where I never ate (I wish Happy Cow had the option of leaving a review without a rating).
Read moreI arrived in the evening, sat down, and asked the waiter if they had anything vegan I could eat. He said something that sounded like "one moment" and walked away. I thought he would get the chef or someone to help him take the order but five minutes later he came back and asked if I was ready to order. Again, I asked if there was anything vegan I could eat. He pointed at a vegan drink on the menu but I told him I was looking for food. He then went to get help and the new guy started pointing at items on the menu that clearly were not vegan. They had blank faces while I tried to explain "no eggs, no dairy please." I left the place as I knew I would never be sure if what they were going to serve me would be vegan.
Cons: No English spoken, Vegan items (if there are any) are not marked

Soooooo i was kinda mad at Millets because i came by from breakfast the day before and they didn’t want to open the doors at 9 am . Told me to come back in the evening . This struck me as weird but ehhh the rules are different in India .
