Great, busy cafe!

You order at a counter, and they bring the food to your seat. They had several vegan options in the baked goods display case in addition to all the options on the menu. I appreciate that they have multiple vegan pancake options!

Pros: Multiple savory AND sweet breakfast options

Cons: Busy because it’s popular!

Several vegan options, very tasty!

This is an omnivore cafe with a nice ambiance and several vegan options, including vegan treats. There were several vegan cupcakes to choose from when I was there for a late lunch - other vegan treats were more popular and were all gone. I had the avocado melt sandwich, which was delicious - there were several vegan options to choose from. Very tasty and filling!

Pros: Good portion size, Very tasty, Nice ambiance

Adorable place with healthy and delicious food

I had the luscious blueberry banana pancakes with home fries, and brought the Baja bowl to go. It was truly amazing and the art installation was also wonderful. Definitely did not encounter any rude service, but we visited in the off season. 10/10 would go again- and likely will tomorrow.

Pros: Healthy options, Ambience of the place, Baja bowl was simple but so fresh tasting

Yummy Vegan Breakfast

We were visiting Anchorage and I found Middle Way Cafe on Google. I had the Tofu Stack and it did not disappoint. It has lots of vegetables and a nice little kick (spice)! I also had the Tropic Thunder smoothie! I can’t give the Middle Way Cafe 5 stars because it serves meat but I give the meal itself 5 stars!

Pros: Good vegan options, Cute ambience

Veggie melt is good, if sloppy

Delicious veggie avocado melt, but it’s hard to keep it together. Chips and salsa are a good addition. Great breakfast spot!

Get the pancakes

My wife (vegan) and I ordered some takeout breakfast from here while we were staying in Anchorage. I got a vegetarian omelet which was not very good (no seasoning). My wife got the vegan blueberry banana pancakes however, and we both agreed they were fantastic. There were a few other options on the menu for vegans, but honestly just get the pancakes.

Pros: Some selection of vegan items for breakfast, Pancakes were delicious

Cons: Omelet was not seasoned well

My Fave Breakie Spot in Anchorage

I was blown with the amount of breakfast options there were. I went back several days and had the vegan breakfast burrito, blueberry banana pancakes, and avocado toast. They have excellent coffee and it’s a cute cafe with beautiful artwork. Highly recommend this cafe!

Good food careless staff

The woman who took our order was rude and careless. We specified vegan breakfast burritos multiple times. When we asked questions about wether the options she gave us for our vegan burrito were in fact vegan she was very rude and and stated that it had a v next to it so yes it was vegan. When we received our food it was packed with pork and cheese. Definitely not vegan. When I took the food back and requested our vegan burritos I was met with unwillingness to help. We finally got our burritos after another 20 minutes and having to go ask for it. Only after I told them to cancel my order was it magically ready.

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Good food

Cons: Service is slow , Really need to be vigilant if you are vegan

Okay

Ordered two of their vegan Huevos Rancheros and wasn’t super impressed. The tofu wasn’t well flavored and the dish overall was just okay. Coffee was pretty good and I really enjoyed their vegan baked goods.

Very Rude and Poor Service

Spent $75 on an awesome breakfast for the family and then are told after paying it would be a 45 minute wait. We waited more than that and when asking if they could check the status an employee said “I could but am not willing to.” Then got the food and an item was missing. Awesome vegan options but don’t go here.

Just okay

After all the reviews I was expecting much better. My son was happy with his burrito, my husband had the Reuben and wasn’t impressed (he said the bread was good but the tofu didn’t have any flavor), my salad with tofu and tahini dressing was ok but nothing special for the price. It was very busy and our food was delivered in a decent time plus they had lots of indoor seating.

Pros: Lots of seating , Decent options for vegan

Cons: Expensive , Not very flavorful

My favorite place in ANC

I always make time to visit Middle Way when I'm in Anchorage. Wish it was all veg but they do have meat on the menu. Lots of vegan options for breakfast and lunch and good at making something vegan upon request. Incredible baked goods as well. Lots of gluten free options too if needed. Expensive, but everything in ANC is expensive.

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Great assortment of desserts and baked goods

Just walk inside

From the outside the midway café doesn’t look like much. But just walk inside and you’ll have entered a happening place for food drinks and good company. Plus there’s awesome art on the wall.

Midway café has clearly marked vegan options. And they have something for everyone, no matter what kind of taste you have. I got a latte and the avocado melt. Both were really tasty. For some reason I didn’t expect the avocado melt to be a sandwich but it was. I thought it would be more like avocado toast so it took me a little bit by surprise. It was delicious we all enjoyed our food. They didn’t have the specific bowl(The Catalan) I was looking to get so I hope to go back at some point and try it because the purple potatoes and vegetables sounded awesome. They have both indoor and outdoor space to eat. I would come back again. 4-Stars

UPDATE: I returned to Middle Cafe in pursuit of the enticing Catalan bowl that they didn't have available last time. Upon ordering they didn't have the Catalan again this time either. They also didn't have the tofu stack that we tried to order next. We ended up getting the lentil burger and the breakfast burrito(v). The lentil burger was underwhelming-- I didn't eat much of it. The purple corn chips that accompany the burger add to the heavy starchy feel of the dish. They at least need salad or something lighter or different to balance out the density of the patty. And the breakfast burrito was good-- could be improved by some things that make it a bit more green or fresh or springy. Side note: needed to hop on a quick google hangout and the Internet didn't work too great either. Not as eager to return again at the moment. Though I'm still curious about that bowl... 2-Stars

Pros: Nice vibes inside, Awesome art gallery on the wall

Cons: Didn't have the bowl I wanted each time , Not a fan of the lentil burger

Sooooooo good!

I have gotten takeout and eaten in the cafe many times. Each dish, meal, and bakery treat has been delicious, ample, and vegan. Vegan items are clearly marked, and each time I inquired about making a non-vegan item vegan, the switch was easy.

Pros: Excellent food & choices, Relatively inexpensive, Healthy options

Cons: Can be loud & crowded

I ordered the blueberry banana multigrain pancakes (with vegan butter!), a cup of fruit, and a tropical thunder smoothie all for $23!! It’s so hard to find affordable food in Anchorage, and this place is AMAZING. The pancakes are phenomenal. The fruit is fresh and consisted of berries and banana (I love when cups of fruit aren’t just melons and grapes). The smoothie is delicious with a subtle beet flavor. I definitely plan on coming back here before I leave Anchorage. Their menu has a TON of vegan options, and I saw a bunch of vegan baked goods available as well!

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Affordable, Delicious

Cons: NOTHING

Tons of options

I was wasn’t expecting such a wide range of vegan baked goods before arriving and was pleasantly surprised. They have tons of options including cupcakes, breads, cookies and more. All of the vegan sweets are well labeled in the display cases. I ordered the vegan reuben which was very unique and good. It had a spicy sauerkraut with cheese on top of a thick slice of grilled tofu. This is a great place to grab some coffee as well and has a lot of seating available.

So Good!

Great food. Lots of vegan options. Including bakery items. I had a delicious vegan brownie no one would ever known it was vegan. Also had lunch there twice last week. Blackbean burger a little too spicy for me. Their version of the Reuben was delicious. If you like pizza. Next door is their sister restaurant called Hearth Artisan Pizza.

Pros: Nice vibe, Great selection

Cons: Closes early though next door is open late.

Yummy!!

I had vegan huevos rancheros (they sub the egg for a tasty grilled BBQ and they have vegan sour cream!). My boyfriend had egret vegan burrito and he loved it too. They have non dairy options for coffee as well. I would definitely go back.
