Not quite vegan Falafel - Edit
While overall a good choice for vegetarians and vegans, strict vegans and even lacto-vegetarians should be be aware that the falafel (which has vegan ingredients) is deep fried in the same fryer used for the vegetable kefta (which contains egg ingredients). This would render the falafel non-vegan but suitable for ovo-vegetarians. These were the only non-meat "protein" offerings. However, there's plenty of vegan "toppings" including 3 kinds of hummus. So you can build a fairly nutritious bowl or wrap without the falafel.
Read moreTheir website lists all the ingredients in their foods so it's easy to see what they're made from. The falafel is listed as VEGAN.
But, HOW they may be cooked could be a deal breaker for some. Still, it's a shame that in spite of their efforts to provide a vegan choice they have neglected the final important step of vegan cooking.
I've written the corporate office regarding this and am awaiting a reply.
UPDATE: I spoke to the staff about the issue of cross contamination during cooking rendering the otherwise vegan Falafel non-vegan as mentioned above. To their credit, they took it to heart and came up with a creative alternative plan in which they will fry the non-vegan kefta first, then change the cooking oil and fry the falafel in clean oil. This is an extra step and more work for them and I commend them for their responsiveness and willingness to accommodate sincere vegans.
With this new effort on their part I move their rating to 4 stars.
UPDATE: August 31,2021: Good news; Mezeh has changed their Kefta recipe and eliminated the eggs and it is now also Vegan!! They've made a sincere effort to accommodate vegans. So now, according to them, both the falafel and the Kefta (a small, round deep fried vegetable croquette) are vegan and both are yummers! Staff has always been friendly and available to answer queries.
They have 4" X 11" cards that list all their many choices and those which are vegan. Easy to navigate but hard to choose which tasty ones to select.
They do serve meat which is in separate containers.

Pros: Build your own wrap / bowl, Many toppings and grains to choose from, friendly service; ingredients online
Cons: falafel not truly vegan due to cooking procedure, outdoor seating has NO umbrellas, don't rely of their chart for Vegan choices
