Fun place to go with non-vegan friends, but don't expect much for you…

I think Jose Andres is a hero, but I guess the vegan market for Spanish food has not given him enough reason to keep the Verduras stand open as it was closed permanently in our recent visit. It's fun having different options in the Plaza part. (we did not eat in any of the standalone restaurants.) but like you do at most non-vegan restaurants, you look around for any options you have, and try to get them to adapt them to your needs. Still the locale and the wine were great.

Pros: Patatas Bravas, Olives, Wine!

Cons: Very few actual vegan options

Few options available

The food was good, but they only provided very limited vegan options on the menu: Spanish tomato bread, olives, gazpacho and a tomato salad. We took the patatas bravas as well and asked to have the aioli separate. The Spanish cuisine originally has some good vegan staples to offer, (pisto, escalivada, tombet, samfaina, setas al ajilo, trempó,…), but this was not reflected on the menu. Would not recommend if you are hungry.

Chaotic

The market was very busy and it was not clear what is anything was vegan. Thanks to the previous review I found the patatas bravas without alioli which was tasty.

Pros: Lively atmosphere

Cons: Difficult to tell what is vegan

Disappointed

When I read about this on Happy Cow, I thought this was a food court brimming with vegan offers at several kiosks, and I imagined that I would sample wares from a variety of stations. I now realize that I was woefully mistaken. This place is an attractive food hall with a bunch of restaurants and kiosks that each is based on Spanish cuisine. Some of the places I asked offered some vegan items--potatoes, bread with tomatoes, churros, olives--but each place I asked emphasized that they really did not have a lot of vegan food if any. I ended up going to Jajaja nearby. Perhaps if you are going here for drinks with friends and all you seek is an appetizer, you will be satisfied. If you are seeking a meal, however, you'd probably have better luck elsewhere.

A tapas wonderland!

Whatever you decide to eat, you MUST finish with the Pina Borracha. Rum soaked compressed pineapple finished with fresh mint is refreshing and juicy without getting you all boozy.
