Japanese
Non-veg
Serves meat, vegan options available. Ask for vegetarian udon. The soups on the menu contain fish, but staff is familiar with vegetarian food (say "no meat, no fish") and will leave out the fish broth. The noodles are freshly made. Also offers vegetable tempura though maybe cooked in shared fryer. Open Tue-Thu 11:30am-4:00pm, 6:00pm-8:00pm, Sat-Sun 11:30am-4:00pm, 6:00pm-8:00pm.

Yum! - Edit
This is a small place, with two tables for 4 and maybe 8 bar seats. We arrived at around 17:45 and waited around an hour to be sat. But the food was great! Vegetarian options were clearly marked on the menu.

Don’t miss the green onion tempura! - Edit
Had vegan udon noodles with tofu which were fine (needed some seasoning - they have vegan tempura sauce, soy sauce and curry salt) - but the veg tempura and especially the green onion tempura will be remembered as one of the food highlights of our trip. We arrived at 6pm exactly and got seated immediately but it filled up very quickly.

Udon was ok, tempura was great! - Edit
Arrived at the restaurant at about 18:20 and there was a 45 min wait to get a table. The food arrived quickly after we had been seated though.
Read moreThe tempura with vegan tempura sauce was really good! We tried both the green onion and the vegetable kind, I recommend going for the green onion.
The udon was a bit of a disappointment after reading a ton of positive reviews. The soup was kind of bland and the noodles were a little chewy. With some extra spice and soy sauce the soup turned ok.

Fantastic tempura! - Edit
I got the vegan lunch set with 6 vegetables and simple udon. They even have vegan sauces for dipping. Best veggie tempura I’ve had! It can get a bit busy- we had to wait for 10 mins- but they take your order in line.

Tolles Preis-Leistungsverhältnis und gute Auswahl an vegetarischen und sogar veganen Gerichten. Wir hatten Udon mit veganer Suppe und Gemüse-Tempura, Oishikatta desu!

This place is such an authentic lunch stop. You sit on a high table watching the chefs cook and then they hand you your food.
Read moreThere were 3 options when we went. The udon soup was so lovely and there are spices on the table if you want to add more flavour.
The tempura Vegtable were amazing and the onion version was like a baji.
We didn't try, but there was also a vegan miso.
Clearly labeled vegan dipping sauces as well.
Bit of a queue to get in but so worth it.
Pros: Great vegan options, Authentic , Lovely staff
Cons: Little bit of a queue

insane green onion tempura - Edit
We opted to go here instead of Omen for udon bc of the cheaper prices and got the tempura set (mixed veg & green onion) which came with a bowl of udon (huge portions for cheap) → the udon was alright, the vegetable tempura was great, and the green onion tempura was life changing. still thinking about her

Yummy tempura - Edit
The place is intimate. The servers are very nice. The vegan options are well labeled and so are the various sauces, soy sauce, tempura sauce, curry salt, and spicy pepper powder. We came at 12:30pm and there wasn’t a wait. I suggest the tempura and udon. The vegetable tempura was sweet potato, onion, kelp, egg plant, and Japanese yam.

Great vegan udon for a decent price - Edit
If this app let me give five stars, this one would definitely deserve it. We stumbled upon this shop on our way to Kiyomizu-dera and had the best udon with tenpura yet. The udon broth is tasty and the breading of the tenpura better than any I've eaten before in Japan. Definitely a place to visit if you're looking for moderately-priced lunch/dinner. Compared to vegan udon places we visited so far, this one stood out.

Chewy noodles - Edit
Best udon in Japan so far. The noodles are nice and chewy and cooked to perfection. The vegan broth was also really good and had extra veggies in it (mainly mushrooms). Staff was also nice and when they first accidentally gave me the non-vegan broth, they apologised and exchanged it, no hassle required.

Fresh, affordable, convenient - Edit
Tae and Nori (sisters who work there) showed me they have separate batter bowls for vegan tempura and use separate oil for frying as well. Cost is low relative to udon and tempura in the area. 1210 for udon and 6 vegetable tempura dinner set and 990 for lunch. It's about a 3min walk from gion shijo station. The owner wants to make the place friendly and comfortable so keeps his rates low, all signage is Japanese/English. They understand vegan and vegetarian are different (with vegan being no animal products but it seems maybe some pescetarians have said they were "vegetarian" and shrimp/fish is ok). Either way the vegan menu is vegan!
