Serves meat, vegan options available. Sushi and Asian food. Has vegetable dishes, several tofu ones. Note that the pad thai contains fish sauce. Previously named Sushi House.
Unfortunately most of the dishes have chicken flavoring or/and fish sauce. It is extremely misleading to see full vegetable and tofu section but almost nothing can be modified. Not even as simple as avocado salad!! Please always talk to someone who is knowledgeable and can truly help with your choice! Huge menu, mix of options from all over the place but nothing really to choose from. Very disappointing

Great food.. friendly staff. I've been eating here for years. They have a nice selection of basic comfort foods but also more elaborate dishes for when you want something fancy :).
Meng's Pan-Asian was my go-to restaurant in North Adams for years. I usually ordered the garlic tofu for dinner or a Bento box for lunch. Vegan Bento box is not on the menu, but I asked and they would make one for me. One afternoon the box came with a dumpling that appeared to have pork in it. Waitress assured us it was vegetarian. I did not eat mine, but my husband took her word for it. Next time we ordered the vegan Bento box, it was served with non-vegetarian sushi--clearly imitation crap in the sushi. When I brought this to the attention of the server, she claimed that it was vegetarian because it wasn't real crab. I had to explain to her that it was still seafood and not vegetarian. She did not believe me. So we were finished with the Bento boxes. Husband and I tried the tofu curry two times and really liked it--told both times that it was vegan. Third time we ordered it, we were told it was not vegetarian--contains fish sauce in the base that cannot be left out. That was three years ago. Called again recently, considering giving them another chance, and asked to speak to a manager who could answer questions about ingredients. I was told that the only vegetarian dishes are the noodle dishes--even the garlic tofu contains chicken stock. I've eaten that dish there more than a dozen times and was told each time that it was vegetarian. I do not recommend this restaurant. North Adams does not have a good dining option for vegans. Drive to Williamstown and dine at Blue Mango (they have over 30 menu items that can be made vegan) or Spice Root (vegan items clearly marked on menu).
I almost always get a decent meal at Meng's with enough leftovers for lunch the next day (or a snack later in the evening). I almost always order the General Tso's tofu or the Ma Po tofu with some avocado and/or sweet potato sushi rolls. The entrees come with rice. The General Tso's is VERY sweet and sticky and has some broccoli in it. The Ma Po is a little blander and saucier with some peas and carrots. These tofu dishes don't have a ton of vegetables, but if that's your thing, cool. If you want more vegetables, the prices aren't prohibitively expensive and you can get another entree. Sometimes their sushi is a bit hit or miss, but I continue to eat there fairly regularly. The service is always fast, the prices are very reasonable, portions are generous, and they deliver (although I pick up on my way home from work).
Meng's is a good place to eat if you're with non-vegans/vegetarians.
What happens when they try to do everything - Edit
They do nothing well. We ordered Vegetable Lo Mein, the noodles were over cooked and the flavor was bland. There was none of the bits of wok sear that a good lo mein and a good Pad See Euw have. The Tofu Pad See Euw was the worst I have ever had in 20 years of eating this dish. The sauce lacked the savory sweetness that defines the recipe. The tofu, however, was perfectly cooked with an excellent texture. We also ordered the sweet potato roll. It was so bad, we each only ate one piece before abandoning the plate. How can one screw up a sweet potato roll? I certainly didn’t think that it was possible. By overcooking the vegetable and decimating the texture. It was like mashed sweet potato tempura at the center of the roll. Absolutely unappealing. On the upside, the meal didn’t cost much at all, but the adage “you get what you pay for” might never have been more true.
Do not miss the Sushi House for excellent vegan dishes. Favorites are the sweet potato maki, sesame tofu, and the massaman curry with tofu. Friendly and efficient service make this a must try for vegans in the North Berkshires.
