We always love going to a mellow mushroom because there are vegan options. I had to order online because the vegan cheese did not appear on the app. Make sure to check that it is vegan and not vegetarian.

I love that I can get vegan pizza here. I do wish there were more vegan options on the menu besides pizza but it’s still great pizza. Can be loud during Monday’s bingo night and Wednesday’s trivia night.

So many vegan pizza toppings!!! - Edit
I was so thrilled when I found out that Mellow Mushroom has vegan protein toppings like tempeh and tofu!! It's even more impressive that they have many different marinades for the tempeh and tofu. I ordered a classic crust (IF YOU'RE VEGAN ASK FOR THE CRUST W/O BUTTER AND PARMESAN) pizza with the red sauce, Follow Your Heart vegan cheese, spinach, and tempeh tossed in herb vinaigrette. It was absolutely amazing, even my non-vegan mom loved it.

Great Vegan Pizza - Edit
I always get a little anxiety when I have to find a vegan option while traveling, but I used Happy Cow to find this place and it was awesome to get to eat at a pizza place with my non-vegan family and have a proper meal. Our waitress was so friendly and when I ordered vegan cheese (Follow Your Heart) she also asked if I needed the butter/Parmesan left off the crust rightly realizing I was ordering as a vegan, and I really appreciated that she double checked with me. And the food was very good! I love their crust and sauce. I'd give this place 5 stars if Happy Cow would let me, & if I'm ever passing through again I'll definitely hit up the Mellow Mushroom again.

Be prepared for a long wait - Edit
Every time I've gone there, they've either messed up my order and/or taken a ridiculously long time. Once I ordered a calzone, and the dough was still raw. I sent it back to finish cooking. My husband was finished eating by the time my meal arrived fully cooked. I was beginning to think they'd forgotten it completely. Another time, I waited a half an hour for a pretzel. I gave up before it arrived. It's cool they have vegan options, but I've stopped going there.

Lots of options for vegans--just swap out cheese for their Daiya cheese and have them leave off the butter/cheese sprinkle on the crust. The house calzone is awesome (even without any cheese at all). Good beer menu, too. I don't think there is much in the way of vegan appetizers.
Read moreDespite it being really good, I haven't once gone here when they didn't mess up my order--used real cheese, forgot to leave off the butter, or both. But they're always quick to fix it and usually give you some sort of coupon for the trouble.

MELLOW BY FAR - BEST IN TOWN - Edit
How many times do you find a limited number of options, or just 1 option?? Frustrating. I found Mellow Mushroom and I cannot believe or comprehend how they do their awesome menu. The server told me their crust is VEGAN! No wonder https://vegansofiowa.com have highly recommended them.
Read moreThe environment is very cool and funky, the music is so awesome and I stopped counting my options once I hit 15. YES....more than 15 completely different options. I had their House Calzone(Spinach, Mushroom and Tomatoes) with Vegan Cheese and it was delicious!! I had several questions and the server brought the owner to my table for an introduction. The kitchen is an open kitchen, so they are so good, they don't have to hide behind anything. :) The owner didn't hesitate to show me how they keep things separate to prevent contamination of any kind. I was SUPER impressed.
The best part....the FOOD IS DELICIOUS and I have found a new FAV!!!!! It is a MUST STOP destination!!!
