Vegan Pancakes for breakfast! - Edit
Lovely fluffy vegan pancakes with fresh bananas and strawberries. I asked for maple syrup instead of agave.
Read more3 very large pancakes…A very generous serving for only one person! Enough for two average sized portions.
The green envy blended juice was also delicious
Service was friendly and attentive. I do recommend if you are looking for vegan pancakes and will happily return to Meli when I am next in Chicago!
Pros: Well made pancakes , Lovely texture and flavour , Excellent friendly service
Cons: No vegan butter for pancakes

Re-visited Meli, had the pancakes again. Please note that all the pancakes on the vegan menu, are now also gluten free. This changes the texture, but for me they were just as tasty!

Vegan pancakes are great - Edit
They have a vegan section on the menu- unfortunately it is mixed with the gluten-free and it is hard to know what exactly is just vegan or just gluten free. I recommend they separate this on the menu so it is easier to know. The vegan pancakes though are really good and I’d recommend them!

No seasoning lol - Edit
Got 2 tofu scrambles to go and it's unseasoned tofu cubes with steamed veggies. I guess technically it's tofu scramble, but it's like the worst tofu scramble you'll ever have.

Cons: Unseasoned

This is sadly accurate. Is good that they offer vegan options but they should try to improve their recipes, so we can also enjoy our meal.

Meli - Edit
Note that I originally wrote this review on 24/6/2013:
Read moreI was drawn to Meli because of their vegan and vegetarian friendly menu. My dining partner and I chose yesterday as the day to try Meli since I ran a half marathon that day, because it was a nice way to celebrate the run and get down on some brunch food. What we didn't realize is that this is more of a health-focused brunch spot - which is fine with me - so keep that in mind if you want some greasy breakfast food. I ordered the vegan French toast, and my dining partner ordered some egg sandwich. We both liked our meals but I'll honestly say that the vegan French toast was a little too healthy. It was loaded with fruits (raspberries, blueberries, and bananas - yum!) but the bread was reminiscent of hippy grain bread, which does not make for good French toast. The syrup was also agave nectar rather than maple syrup, again something I'm not used to with French toast. There are many other vegan things on the menu that I'd like to try soon, so I'll update my rating accordingly then.

The pancakes were not "all that." - Edit
$15.00 for three pancakes 1 banana and 5 strawberries. I was disappointed after reading the reviews about how great these pancakes were. They were dry and the little agave that the chef drizzled over them did not help. I rate my experience a 3 of 5 because the Resteraunt does look clean and the staff was friendly. If you are craving a breakfast treat, save your money and get an acai bowl.

Sadly their vegan pancakes have not improved, they look cooked and great on the outside but inside were doughy and taste it like cardboard.

Come for the pancakes only - but they are worth the trip. - Edit
The pancakes are really fluffy and come with fruit and maple syrup - just the way I like them. Unfortunately, the service as well as the "scrambled" tofu really are underwhelming and vegan bread not to be found even after persistent inquiring... but, oh the pancakes!

Cons: Only one convincing vegan option, no bread

Bland, diner style - Edit
Came here for breakfast after seeing they have vegan options. Sadly the tofu scramble was disappointing. It wasn’t scramble - it was diced tofu, broccoli, zucchini and tinned red pepper chopped together and dumped on a plate. There was no flavour at all. Nice service but I wouldn’t recommend breakfast here. The juices were nice.

Very meh - Edit
Scrambled tofu was really mediocre. Basically boiled vegetables and bits of tofu on average bread. This is fine as a backup option if nothing else is available but pretty disappointing otherwise.

Cute brunch spot - Edit
Has a separate vegan and gluten free section on back of menu. I've had the salsa stacker and tofu scramble, both were very good. My friend really enjoyed the vegan pancakes. This is a great place for brunch if you're looking for a place to accommodate vegan and non vegans alike. Vegan breakfast can be tough to find in the loop area. They make a great latte and have a full espresso bar and well as alcohol.
