Good but not great

MAYS has nice decor and the mall it’s inside of is cooler than the typical style you usually see. The menu also looks creative, there are many options, faux meat - exciting! You think “omg, this place might actually be a good vegan friendly restaurant in China!”. Expectations are high.

However, although the food was good, it wasn’t great, and it’s a familiar feeling of seeing a vegan/vegetarian restaurant underdeliver. I would visit again, but I wouldn’t make this a regular spot even despite the lack of competition. The price is reasonable given the setting/menu/food quality, but it failed to meet my expectations.

I enjoyed the tofu with black pepper sauce and the crispy tortilla, but the tofu and mushroom roll I didn’t enjoy, and the salad was apparently quite basic.

Pros: Creative menu, Nice decor, Good faux meats

Cons: Not fully vegan

Amazing restaurant

Beautiful design, amazing menu making it so hard to choose, reasonable prices, and food arrives without too much delay. Want to come back and try other things! Especially recommend the steak salad - one of the most amazing salads ever (and I don’t usually like salad). Excellent mock meat, if you’re into that.

Pros: Amazing food, Reasonable prices, So many good choices

Tasty, delicious food and a good atmosphere

I went quite early on a Saturday because I had heard it could be busy. Food was delicious, some of the best I’ve had in China. A little on the pricey side but no more than a burger or such would set you back. Food was very flavourful.

PS - not cash only, don’t know why it says that.

Fancy, lots of vegan options

Located next to iDama in the K11 mall. Visited for lunch, the restaurant was busy but the food came out fairly quickly.
Clearly labelled milk, but no indication of eggs.
A great variety of dishes - I opted for the sweet and sour sweet potato / yam, which was divine. For clearly an up-market place, I didn't think the prices were too ridiculous: 48RMB for a large bowl of fried rice, containing veggies and mock meat. Sweet and sour dish was also 48RMB.
This place is definitely an experience! Lovely leaf-shaped cutlery, food was all well presented and staff we very helpful when we ordered.
Definitely worth visiting!

Pros: Tasty, A true restaurant experience

Cons: No mention of egg on menu

Good food but

Super rude staff. We experienced eye rolling and lack of care and understanding for food allergies. We told one staff member of a deathly allergy to peanuts at our table and the server replied, “it’s not that serious”. They refused to check with the chef about certain menu items and safety of cross contamination. Red flag.

Large menu of vegan options

The staff at MAYS were helpful. The food was pretty good. We ordered quite a few dishes and ate them family style. Food came out relatively fast given the restaurant was crowded and we were there during the lunch rush. There is a lot of mock meat, so if you’re not into that, this place might not be for you.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Menu clearly indicates allergens, Attentive staff

Cons: Menu indicates where dairy is used but not eggs

Fancy Restaurant with decent vegan food

MAYS is an upscale, high-end, vegetarian restaurant where you go if you want to feel fancy in Guangzhou. They have many vegan options that are clearly labeled on their menu.
This place might be pricey, but it sure is tasty too! We tried their highly recommended superfood salad with avocado, black pepper, and sea salt. Not being the biggest salad fans, this one didn’t disappoint with so many textures – fried, roasted, seared – it was all there! The spicy cumin BBQ skewers were so reminiscent of fatty meat, that we had to question the waiter on it! Oh, and have we mentioned the braised eggplant?

A little fancy - but not amazing food

Went here tonight with my husband as it was close to where we were. A lot fancier and more expensive than we'd normally eat, but we thought we'd treat ourselves.

The restaurant does not use eggs and any dishes that contain milk are labelled, so it was easy to see what was vegan.

Our food arrived quickly, looked great, the staff were friendly and it was a nice interior. However I would say that the food was not the most amazing or flavourful that I've had. It was non-greasy which was nice and the tempeh in my dish was good. But honestly, you get something much more flavourful in a back street restaurant. (Which I would always recommend.)

Pros: Nicely presented food, Spotless surrounings, Nice staff

Cons: small dishes for price, Not most flavourful

Nice restaurant

Very friendly wait staff. I did not see anything non-vegan on the menu, though I did not ask. As is usual in China, you are expected to share multiple dishes with multiple people, but some dishes were suitable for a single person as well (although the one I had was a little small).

Pros: Good options, attentive staff

Cons: Shared dishes only
