Very bad restaurant - Edit
I enjoyed my staying at the Mayachik hostel but I’m honestly quite baffled when I read the reviews regarding the restaurant. Everything my friend and I tried was ranging from disappointing to terrible. We had the lentils chili, beans burger, pancakes and rellitos. Especially this last one was really terrible, hard to finish even. We wouldn’t even dare ordering the pizza cause we say other people getting it and it looks awful.

Cons: Rellitos, Lentils chili, Beans burger

Best vibes ever!! - Edit
I don’t have the words to describe how wonderful this place is. We stayed at Mayachik for five nights and ate at their restaurant at least once a day. My favourite dish was the Mushroom Pepian and favourite drink was the hot chocolate with macadamia milk. They provide cooking classes and I regret not getting them to teach me how they make their Pepian. The most lovely people, a lovely spot to eat, portions were huge and at affordable prices too. If in the area, I fully recommend you give this lovely restaurant a visit. Will miss this place ❤️

Fresh, filling food - Edit
The food at the restaurant is fresh and filling and uses lots of veggies. The chili was more of a soup. The vegan options are clearly labeled on a separate page.
Read moreI stayed at the hotel, had to leave early because the wifi didn't work. Lots of noise in the night which is to be expected in a rural space, bring ear plugs if you're staying!

eco garden retreat - Edit
The garden setting is calm and away from the loud and busy streets of San Juan or - even worse - San Pedro. They have Guatemalan classics like Popian in a vegan version. Food is absolutely gorgeous and amazingly fresh - especially said Popian. Some of the best food we had in Guatemala! The chili is very good as well but not what I expected. More like a lentil stew.
Read moreThe staff is very helpful and can also organise shuttles, trips, ... or accommodation in the attached eco hotel (which is not as calm as the restaurant as for some reason all dogs in the area bark the whole night). Open for breakfast.
Offers different plant based milks on its coffee menu

So tasty - Edit
Lovely food made with great ingredients (had to pick a bayleaf out of my plate). Went twice in 12h and probably would have gone again if it weren't for I was in town less than 24h. Gotta love vegan options way out here in Guate.

Amazing! - Edit
Eco hotel with veggie resteraunt which has a dedicated vegan section on the menu which offers local and international dishes. We had the curry and the pepian, both were lovely. They have their own gardens which they harvest alot of the ingrediance from, everything is cooked from scratch and is full of flavor - 2 meals cooked from scratch for about €11 with fresh ingrediants ant complaing

Tranquil and delicious - Edit
A small walk outside of town, Mayachik offers wonderful veg food in a relaxed, comfortable environment. The menu has a dedicated vegan section, although many vegetarian foods are able to be made vegan as well. The lentil soup was particularly tasty (:

Delicious Vegetarian Food, Gorgeous Natural Jungle Surroundings and Tranquil Atmosphere - A Hidden Gem in San Juan! - Edit
Mayachik is a fantastic vegetarian restaurant situated just a short walk from the centre of San Juan, among beautiful jungle vegetation and in a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere.
Read moreThe restaurant is located a 5-7 minute walk from San Juan at the end of a quiet gravel road in the scenic countryside. The restaurant is inside a rustic and simple yet charming wood building with a palm leaf roof. According to the website, it is an ecologically constructed building using natural ingredients and is also self-sustainable, which I loved! The grounds around the restaurant were gorgeous and it was a natural paradise with lots of lush tropical plants, trees and colourful flowers everywhere. Inside the restaurant, there were wooden tables with multi-coloured tablecloths and large open-air windows offering fantastic views of the surrounding gardens and jungle. I loved the laid-back, serene and peaceful atmosphere while being among nature.
The menu featured a selection of healthy vegetarian dishes and traditional Guatemalan favourites. The vegetarian tostadas were super satisfying and delicious! The portion sizes were very generous, the staff were kind and cheerful and the service was fast and friendly.
Eating a delicious vegetarian meal surrounded by such incredible natural beauty and in a comfortable and tranquil atmosphere, was just perfection.
This restaurant is definitely a hidden gem in San Juan and a must-visit for vegetarians when you travel to Lake Atitlan!
Pros: Charming and Serene, Delicious Vegetarian Food, Beautiful Vegetation

Disappointing - Edit
We booked Mayachik because they advertised a vegan menu, but when we arrived and asked for their vegan menu we were told that they didn't have one, so we ordered the two items on their vegetarian menu that could be made vegan; the pasta with tomato sauce, and the curried vegetables with rice. Both were very large portions that we could share, but pretty average in flavour.
Read moreThe grounds are beautiful, and there are three lovely dogs, and cats on the grounds, but don't expect any incredible vegan food.
They also have a cake buffet every sunday. How incredible if it were vegan!
Pros: dogs and cats, relaxing, beautiful grounds
Cons: no vegan menu, very little vegan options, False advertising
