Yes No Idk - Edit
So they offer vegan food, lots of variety and options to choose from.
Read moreThey speak English and the restaurant looks great and they are playing amazing music.
But the Maragarita, Burrito and Tortilla Chips are not that fancy but ok. The best I’ve had was the Gazpacho and the Salsas.
I went there during happy hour which means 241 but I even didn’t get that.
So would I go again - probably not
Would I recommend going there - if you want to taste someting other than Chinese food your options are limited…
Price was on the high side even for Shanghai - paid 290rmb

Yum! - Edit
There is a vegan menu! We ordered the mushroom taco, sun-dried tomato and pesto taco, guac and chips, refried beans, Mexican rice, beetroot carpaccio. The tacos and beetroot carpaccio were really really delicious, same with the guacamole!
Read moreAnd don’t skip on the drinks, I had the strawberry virgin mojito, little 10/10 and my sister had the mango virgin margarita very tasty!
It’s definitely on the pricier side, but the service and vibe are worth it I think😄if you want to have a fancy dinner in China, go here!
Pros: Big selection of food , Great drinks , Good service
Cons: Expensive

Mexican with vegan menu - Edit
Had vegan burrito stuffed with veggies good sized portion, large portabello kale salad with salsa, and orange juice. Also chia pudding for dessert. All of this on a set menu and was easily enough for two. Loved the kale salad, burrito a bit bland but the chipotle sauce with it made it yummy. Chia pudding came with mix of fruit and was good. Great ambience. Need to book ahead as it's packed in the evenings. Ask for the vegan menu. Staff friendly and helpful.

Going Mexican but Vegan! - Edit
They got vegan options which is great for peeps who are avoiding meat but wants to enjoy Mexican food. We ordered a set which includes veggie burrito, kale salad, 2 salsas, chia pudding with fruits. Enjoyed the food. Ambiance is great. Would love it more if they have bean burritos. It’s a plus that there is a charming girl greeting the guests at the door.

Humiliating experience - Edit
My problem with Maya isn’t about the vegan food, which I think is just fine (not amazing, but not at all bad, and I’m grateful for all of the choices). Nor is my problem about the awesome owner and his sweet and adorable daughter who make being there really pleasant. My problem is with the weird and really unpleasant service we experienced when trying to sort out our bill, which made me never want to go back out of forced embarrassment and feeling like we were somehow done dirty.
Read moreMy friend had a bday celebration here, for which 8 of us in total were present. One person left early, but paid her share of the bill, leaving behind printed proof that she did so. At the end, we sorted the total bill that we received as a group, which resulted in us paying about 100 RMB more in total than the amount on the bill, based on some of us rounding up. However, we were then told by a server that we still owed 152 RMB. Nobody could explain this. We asked what hadn’t been paid for, and they said they didn’t know. We went over the bill and our math multiple times, and we could not find a mistake. The server said not to worry about it, and that he was doing us a favor by giving us a 152 RMB discount, but still insisted that we were to blame for this incident, and that it was our “mistake”. That seemed really backhanded. Everyone left, but two of us stayed behind to try and sort it. This time, we were talking to one additional server, and neither of them could explain what the extra 152 accounted for. They just kept insisting that it’s our responsibility but they were doing us a “favor”, and again letting us know about our mistake. We tried to work it out ourselves, and we wish we’d each asked for separate bills. We had no proof of this 152 rmb that was short, except for the words coming out of the servers’ mouths. The male server even claimed in explaining to us that he discounted the bill for us, that it’s “because you didn’t want to pay the 152…”. We had had enough and then offered to pay the difference, to which we were met again with the fact that he did us a “favor” and already discounted it and closed out the bill. We left feeling badly, like we did something wrong, even though we did all that we could do to sort it. Too many bad feelings were present for me to be willing to return.
Ps: when I walked into the dining room, a socket that should have been covered was open on the floor, which I tripped over, cutting my big toe open and bleeding a bunch.
Pros: Only place with vegan ice cream I think, Ice cream is good! , Bottomless sangrias/margaritas brunch option
Cons: Extremely poor customer service

Holy Mole, Vegan Mexican! - Edit
Maya's Green Menu is AMAZING! There is the option to have the deal for 168rmb which is well worth it. I've got to say this is some of the best vegan food I've had anywhere which is surprising for a non-vegan restaurant. The place is a little hard to find in that it's inside a compound not on the main street, but there are signs pointing the way and it's worth it, it has a great atmosphere, very relaxed, the Swedish owner and all the staff are wonderful too. So the deal menu allows you to choose 1 drink, 1 appetizer, 1 main, 2 salsas and a dessert! For ourselves this is a great place to go with our vegan friends and also our carnist friends. There are so many good options in the green menu, but I do recommend the virgin avocado Margerita, it's delicious, as for the rest you can decide for yourself but I've not been disappointed by anything here. Having this vegan menu in a non-vegan place shows the recognition of plant based alternatives and can only be a good thing in my opinion.
Read moreSo glad that Miguel is back and Maya is up and running again, they've added a couple of things to the Green Menu but they aren't vegan so I've not tried. After just reading a surprising 1 star review which I have to say that everyone I have taken here has been majorly impressed and I'm talking more than a dozen different people, one recent friend decided to have her birthday meal here after we'd been. I've eaten in some bad places and have yet to give a 1 star review. This is a favourite of mine & my friends, one of whom is a vegan chef. Miguel the owner is a sincerely nice guy, the staff are attentive and the general atmosphere is great even when they are super busy.

Awful - Edit
I don’t know where good reviews about this restaurant come from, but I’m very disappointed. The first thing that caught my eye was dirty furniture, there were many oily spots on chairs and sofas.
Read moreAlmost everything we tried were savorless and not tasty. Grilled portobello salad was too sour, there was only ONE mushroom in whole salad and it was canned not fresh, it’s strange because this dish is quite expensive. Mushroom tortilla was so tiny, so I barely could feel the taste (it was also awful). Even guacamole was tasteless! I didn’t find any beans in their burrito as it was said in menu. Orange juice began to ferment or it was made of rotten oranges, cause it tasted like it was spoiled. My friends who tried non vegan dishes said that it also was disgusting. Chefs use canned products in every meal, but price is too high! The only things that we liked was chocolate ice cream.
Pros: Chocolate ice-cream
Cons: Extremely high prices, Unappetizing food made of canned products, Dirty furniture

Delicious Mexican cuisine, great drinks, even have non-dairy ice cream. Ask for the green menu! Often very quiet at lunch time (and not as many offerings). Busy in the evenings!

Maya was already one of my favorite spots in Shanghai before going vegan - and I’m happy to say that the vegan options are just as good. Be sure to ask for the vegan menu!

Delicious vegan burrito - Edit
It was a bit difficult to find. BUT it is more of an upscale restaurant with higher prices. Upon request, they will give you the vegan menu. This place is great for friends if some are vegan and non-vegan. The customer service was great as well! I would give this place 5 stars but since it is not completely vegan happy cow won’t let me 😆

Lovely atmosphere - not fully clear on the vegan menu - Edit
We were a group of vegans and non-vegans and this is such a lovely place with a very restaurant feel. Our only issue was that we got sour cream on our vegan burrito which was not vegan, and had to send it back. They apologized but nothing else.
Read moreHowever the food was delicious and it was such a nice place. Best restaurant-style place with vegan options in Shanghai. The portions however were quite small. There’s a vegan set menu but we opted for more side dishes which I think was more food for the price !
Pros: Beautiful place , Nice staff , Fully vegan menu
Cons: Got dairy sour cream on our vegan burrito , Small portions

Ask for the vegan menu! - Edit
Not sure if they have the vegan options on their actual menu, so make sure you ask for the vegan menu. We went for the offer at 168rmb, 1 starter, 1 main, 1 dessert, 1 drink and two salsas. It was delicious. Lovey atmosphere and the staff were brilliant. An extra special mention to Jacky as he was brilliant. Will definitely be visiting again.
