Wonderful - Edit
I came here after two days of what seemed to be food poisoning. I was staying near the airport as I had an early flight but thought I'd make the effort to travel to a restaurant I had high hopes for and I wasn't disappointed. I had the set menu without soup, the southern style mixed brown rice noodle and black sesame traditional dessert. All was fantastic. From the perfectly cooked brown rice to the seaweed wrapped tofu whose softness and sea flavour from the seaweed reminded me of unagi which I loved in my pre vegan days. The salad was salty and bitter, had good crunch from peanuts and came with a sweet dressing that had some heat to it that was to die for. The sesame dessert was a little cloying but I liked it, not too sweet. Overall a great meal. I ordered a tonne and left feeling satisfied but not bloated, one of the benefits of a vegan lifestyle. Meal came to about £5.30 which is ridiculous.

We were warmly welcomed. Everything was cooked with love and care. I'm also confident to say that the spring rolls might be among the best in Vietnam.

Calm, Beautiful Energy and Vibrations. Chef Takes Her Time to Cook. - Edit
If I was in Hà Nội now, I would return to this place immediately. I believe the staff worker is a devoted Buddhist nun (bhikkhunī): I noticed she was wearing her gray robe when we interacted. I appreciated that she made every dish I ordered. The pineapple cakes here were wonderful to try, I still remember them, 2 years later after my visit here.
Read moreYes, I waited about 20 minutes for my food to arrive at my table: some people will see this as a weak point, but I did not have that view. This is not a quick-service restaurant: this is a place to take your time and enjoy conversation as your food is being prepared for you. During the wait for my food, I knew that the chef was preparing the food with a lot of care: remembering this was helpful.

May Trang is still open ! Yoooloooo - Edit
White Cloud Vegan Restaurant is my MOST FAVOURITE restaurant in Vietnam, or, in the world so far. This vietnamese vegan restaurant has a huge menu of about 66 dishes, all vegan, all organic and NON MSG ! - this is what i always worry about when having meals at vegan restaurants. In Hanoi I know 2 places which clearly dont use MSG: White Cloud and Atelier Vegan.
Read moreMSG exists in almost every type of soy sauce and other products as well (mock meat, chilli sauce, ketchup, *vegetable* Seasoned salt which is *GIA VỊ CHAY* or *BỘT NÊM CHAY* in vietnamese) As MSG is hidden in so many products, lots of vegan restaurants state that they dont use *MSG powder* in their foods but actually they use the products which have MSG inside. Since I have been vegan for nearly 10 years so every single time I eat something which contains MSG I immediately know it and got a headache.
Well.. The owner of White Cloud is a courageous and VERY VERY TALENTED woman. Although some bad people tried to ruin her business and to get her trademark (White Cloud) but she stayed still and started her own vegan restaurant in a new location - it's White Cloud nowadays.
I admire this wise woman and her humbleness. Actually She is the ONLY staff here in White Cloud Restautant. As a vegan cooker myself I find this super hard and certainly she is doing meditation too while cooking.
People who loves White Cloud's food call this "Meditation on waiting and eating" :) I just love this definition so much.
Dont hurry, if someone comes here with a *fast-food* attitude, they will just walk away. I go to White Cloud to enjoy my time on *eating meditation* 3-5 times/week and always have a peaceful time with my pals. It's obviously better to eat foods which were made by a peaceful and carefree chef than the stressful ones.. :)
Searching for vegan Restaurant on vietnamese vegan foods? I give a BIG BIG 5 STARS to White Cloud, where I have no worries about MSG or whatever sh*t in my foods.
Vegan food here is simply from heaven.
I will surely post my photos of her vegan dishes here on HappyCow.

Wow, thank you for sharing this beautiful review! When I was in Hanoi and visited May Trang, I, too, thought that talking to the owner was a blessing: she gave me her full attention, never rushed anything, and was very kind. You are so right that eating here is like meditation: I had this experience also!

Little bit hard to find but well worth the visit. If it seem closed be sure to ring the Bell because she locks the door if nobody downstairs. Enjoyed the best local organic grown food here. One of few places that serves fresh salads that are totally awesome. Completely blown away by her Spring Rolls (fresh fried ones). Lovely Lady that does all by herself so bring some time.

Really nice restaurant - Edit
We went here for our first meal in Hanoi and were exceptionally pleased. We have lived in San Francisco, New York, and Singapore, so are used to a lot of good food, but May Trang blew us off.
Read moreFirst, as other reviewers noted, the food takes a while to come. We were actually very happy about this fact because it means that they were preparing everything from scratch, rather than mixing pre-cooked ingredients or just warming up pre-cooked food, as is very common in Singapore, China, India, and elsewhere.
The meal started with delicious wheat gluten cooked with lemongrass and chili, followed by excellent fried mushroom. The batter was perfectly crisp but yet the dish was not oily. We then finished off with a soup and a slow cooked grilled eggplant, both delicious. The eggplant was particularly tender and smoky - in our experience, most restaurants end up frying the eggplant instead of grilling it, which ends up killing all natural flavors.
We'll definitely go here again. Highly recommended.
(Some people noted that it was a bit hard to find. We asked a few locals on the way, who were extremely helpful, so got there without getting lost).
Pros: Freshly cooked food, Delicate flavors, Slow cooked food

Fresh food for weekend! - Edit
I've been to this place twice. The food is different from most of the other vegetarian place in Hanoi. It is very clean and fresh. A good place to hang out once in a while. And it takes a while for the food to be ready!

Very good. - Edit
We missed it the first time we went out there. The cab driver was no help, either. The second time I tried, I called and had the owner come outside to greet us. The owner speaks English and is very friendly. The food, while it takes a while to make, is very fresh and delicious. (See pics). Don't expect to be served quickly but you'll enjoy the food when it does finally arrive. We had 4 dishes, a drink and 2 desserts for about $10. Free tea.

Our favorite restaurant in Vietnam - Edit
Incredible food and the owner/chef is really sweet and helpful. I loved how she said our order had too much protein and gave us suggestions on how to change the order, really felt like being at someone's home. Though food can sometimes take a really long time but was well worth the wait. My favorite dish was a fried mung bean dish, amazing and not greasy at all. It also is a little off the beaten path but again so worth it. We went twice.

Great, unassuming family run restaurant - Edit
This is a classic style Vietnamese family run restuarant. The restaurant is located in a small building and is modestly decorated with causual bamboo tables and chairs. There was no music playing, so it was nice and peaceful. The mains on the menu are a wide variety of mainly tofu or gluten, cooked in some tradition Vietnamese styles. I ordered the fried gluten with lemongrass and chili, brown rice, and pumpkin soup. The owner (I think) asked if I was hungry and when I said no, she cut the order size in half, which I thought was very generous. The food arrived quickly and was all tasty. The fried gluten should have contained more chilis, however, as it did not contain enough to give it the required kick. THe pumpkin soup was chunks of pumpkin in a light broth - very good. The brown rice contain red or black beans which colored the rice. I wasn't sure whether it was actually brown rice or not. However, it too was very good. This is not fancy dining, but I love the real, family-owned feel of the place. I will be back.

A delightful find! - Edit
May Trang (White Cloud) was well worth the trip. Well-prepared, tasty vegan Vietnamese staples plus some creative inventions, served by very sweet people in a casual, tasteful setting. I (a vegan) took two carnivores and we all enjoyed the meal. They make their own seitan and mung bean cake (like tofu, but made with mung beans instead of soybeans, with a pleasant, mild flavor). I was quite impressed with the ingenuity with which they made very healthy ingredients into well-balanced, flavorful meals. Prices are very reasonable too.
