Absolutely amazing quality and tasty breakfast

Having visited their original location in Bangalore almost four decades ago couldn’t wait to visit as soon as we found there was in Singapore. One has to order, pay and sit on a table of your choice and they bring the food to you.

Medu (aka Uddina) Vada - you get one piece served with Sambhar and coconut chutney. The Medu Vada is the best one can find - crunchy outside and so airy and soft inside. Oh words don’t do justice.

Poori Saagu - the poori almost football size and full of air. Fried bread-what more do I say. The two curries, the mixed vegetable curry (Saagu), good veggies and a bit of coconut paste and perfectly balanced

Rava Masala Dosa - The richer cousin of Masala Dosa and our favourite. Nice crunch, and perfectly done without being overly greasy. The masala filling very good and Sambhar and Chutneys oooh…. I could have those in gallons.

Bisibele Bhath - Similar texture to a congee and full of spices and some veggies. Traditionally made with leftover rice, this was also the best we have ever had.

The coffee black I had was good and the one with milk, Mrs enjoyed it.

The best breakfast we have ever had - period.

Vegans don't bother coming

Came here lucky there was no line. I was curious why so many people come here. We tried to ask for no ghee in the masala Dosa. They said potatoes already have ghee added. We asked for masala tea they gave us black tea because they only have cow's milk for tea. In this day and age buy some plant milk for vegans if you want to charge such high prices. Must you put ghee in everything?

Good Indian food with limited vegan options

It’s a nice Indian place, and has a long history, their story is on the first page of the menu.
Unfortunately nearly every dish has ghee. Sometimes they can substitute it with vegetable oil, but as Indian dishes tend to be already quite heavy and oily, adding more oil is not necessarily the best. I had dosa which was very tasy and all the 3 different dips/bowls it came with. No vegan dessert options, everything is with milk. I am sure this place is great for vegetarians but not really for vegans.

Pros: Huge vegetarian menu , Has a tradition and history

Cons: Very limited vegan options

Amazing for vegetarians but limited vegan options

Used to love this place but now I’m vegan it’s too limited - almost everything is cooked in or contains ghee. Recommend for vegetarians though.

Dosa's are perfect. The masala idly is highly recommended. Just wanted to keep eating.... and eating.

Pros: All food is vegetarian , Vegan items limited to items w/o ghee

Cons: A little more expensive than the other places., Long queues during lunch and dinner, Must order before sitting down

Head that the Masala Dosa is to die for ...

Today, while exploring the colourful world (Art Trail & Street Art) in Little India, I also pop by MTR – Mavalli Tiffin Rooms to explore their Masala Dosa ($6+). Heard this dish is to die for and they started in Bangalore in 1924 with outlets in Dubai and Kuala Lumpur.

Simply love the potatoes (got onion, I think) in their Dosa!

Not bad, now I know another good vegetarian restaurant besides Komala Vila, Ananda Bhavan, Gokul, Cafe Salivation in Little India Singapore!

Pleasant

i got the khali dosa, which is dosa made from rice and lentils flour, roasted on one side. it came with two condiments (one sambhar and one chutney) unlike the illustrated picture.

the sambhar was on the sour side, unlike other sambhar condiments i've had, and was more similar to rasam. the chutney i had was mint or coriander, but it was nice and thick.

the dosa it was served warm and crispy on one side, and fluffy on the other. it satisfied the crisp texture. if vegan, do ask for no ghee!
one criticism i have about these pancakes is that they were way too oily, as though they were splashed in oil before service.

because of these, i rate my experience a 3.5 stars.

Love this place

This place has good food. Everything is extra ordinary. The only problem is the seating place. We are unable to enjoy the food because we have to consider other customers as well. Now that they have a new lot, there is still the same problem and 2 of us were asked to share table whereas the other side is empty. I think its important for them to assign one person to do crowd control, rather than the cashier doing both order taking and crowd controlling. Thats the only draw back.

Pros: Best food , Best location

Cons: Little pricey, Seating place is a big problem, Too crowded during peak and weekends
