They have a nice vegan menu. They make pizza and pasta vegan. The vegan cheese is not exceptional though.

Vegan pizza and pasta! - Edit
There’s an entire vegan section of the menu, including vegan deep dish and thin crust pizza! It’s a cute restaurant. Quite pricey, though—probably best to share a pie.

Fabulous Deep Dish Pizza - Edit
This is one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had. Thick crust layered with Teese mozzarella cheese, a flavorful tomato sauce and fresh ribbons of basil. The 45-minute wait was worth it. We also enjoyed the Manchego salad, with mixed greens, Granny Smith apples, walnuts and dates. The Cuban roll was served hot and fresh-baked. Really good. I wish I discovered this place and its separate vegan menu of wonderful salads, pizzas and pasta dishes, sooner.

Deep dish heaven. Vegans and non vegans have the same incredible flavors and options. Great old-school place and no [censored] attitude.

Masa of Echo makes sure to cater to vegans. The deep-dish pizza although it takes 45 minutes to an hour to make, is beyond belief. A tip is to order 15 minutes before arriving, making your wait time 30 minutes. In all honesty, 2-3 people should be filled with small deep dish pizza. They are thick and can be shared amongst a small group.

Gross vegan cheese - Edit
We shared a 14 inch deep dish pizza and it was too big. It was a 10 slice pizza and I ate 2 and was stuffed. I had my other three for breakfast over the next 3 days. The reason I am only giving it 3 stars is because the cheese was pretty gross and there was a lot of it. I usually like vegan cheese but I would recommend getting the cheese less version and adding a different topping like the pepperoni.

not super fond of the vegan cheese - Edit
on the deep dish pizza (only dish i’ve tried) but the sauce and the crust make up for it, and it’s nice & cozy inside. i’m told there’s always a bit of a wait, so just plan ahead for it!

DEEP DISH - Edit
Their deep dish is all you need. It's the best vegan deep dish in town! Just be careful, cause that food coma hits hard!! Make sure to give 45 minutes for them to make it! Down side is it's a bit pricey. I got a vegan deep dish with only 3 toppings and it was $30! They could definitely use more vegan toppings/meats.

Vegan substitutes aren't great but happy they're trying! - Edit
This place has a great vibe. It's romantic but has a bustling energy to it.
Read moreThey get 10 stars from me for having a vegan menu. A whole superstar menu that tells you what you can have and waiters who understand what vegan is so you don't have to triple check everything they tell you.
The only reason they get a 4 star instead of a 5 star is because the options we picked weren't great, and we had asked for guidance.
We got a salad with apples and walnuts that was good.
We ordered a vegan deep dish pizza (awesome that you can even get one). Adding vegan pepperoni was $5 extra. We were curious so we asked 1) if it was good and 2) if we could try it before we committed. The waitress said it was really good and they couldn't let us try it. So we ordered the vegan pizza with spinach, roasted garlic and vegan pepperoni.
The pepperoni was not great. A small amount of it is interesting to try, but the thick layer they put on the pizza was pretty overwhelming and not delicious.
Now if you've read my previous reviews or seen my cooking videos or follow me on Instagram you KNOW I love garlic more than the average garlic lover. So it's hard for me to even write - but there were whole cloves of garlic layered on the pizza. One regular sized bite could easily get you three cloves in your mouth. It was overwhelming even for me. I had to pick off garlic and pepperoni to make the pizza good

Deep Dish Done Right - Edit
I usually don't like ordering pizza with vegan mozzarella because I'm not a fan of Daiya. I'm not sure if I'd be a fan of Teese on a regular pizza either, but here, topped with everything else, it tasted great. The star of the show is the crust, though. The deep dish dough is crispy, buttery, flaky. It is worth the wait. My non-vegan wife enjoyed her pasta and her creme brulee too. They told me one small pizza would be enough to feed 2-3 people. I did not believe them, but they are telling the truth.

The vegan food they serve is so delicious -their marinara sauce is delectable! I froze a sample so I can try to make it at home! ;) The pasta is vegan, except the linguini. Be sure to try the deep dish pizza - where else can you get a vegan deep dish? They can customize your pizza from their extensive toppings list.
Read moreMake sure to ask for the printed vegan menu so the server knows you want your order vegan. Just come early on weekends as there can be a huge wait. I made the mistake once by pre-ordering the deep dish pizza to avoid a 45-minute wait for it. I thought I could just arrive and sit down to a table and have it ready to be brought, but no, if you order it by phone, you must take it to go. So, we ate it in the car. So, come early, get a table and order the pizza. It's so worth the wait.
The atmosphere is hip and intimate. There are different dining areas, although small, makes for an eclectic and interesting dining experience. Also, the staff are super friendly. The owner is very gracious.
Park down the side street in paid lot. Weekend nights may be free - just read sign to make sure.

Delicious vegan cheese pizza - Edit
Had read about this place on HappyCow a while back and have walked by it a couple times while going to eat at Sage Vegan Cafe just a few doors down. Finally had a chance to try the pizza on 2 occasions. Was just here in February 2013. Here's my Masa of Echo Park review.
Read moreIt's a casual, family friendly atmosphere restaurant, not fancy or anything. While not purely veg, it does offer vegan cheese and vegan chicken as pizza toppings. The regular menu does not point out the vegan specific items, so ASK for the vegan menu (that's also published on its website).
I knew I wanted to try the vegan Teese Cheese (made by Chicago Soy Company). Twice I got a bistro style pizza rather than a deep dish (maybe next time I will though) with added cherry tomatoes. A good size pizza for 2 adults to share. Price is now around $16-17.
Both times the vegan cheese pizza was delicious. I really liked the Teese cheese on my thin-crust pizza. It has a soft texture and is not greasy (like Daiya cheese gets).
I will return for the deep dish next time.
PS. Masa also offers a soy cheese that contains casein (dairy derivative).
Pros: yummy bistro pizza, vegan Teese cheese, relaxed

A fantastic & popular Pizza/Italian restaurant - Edit
We followed recommendations to arrive early on a Saturday due to popularity and we are sure glad we did! There was a huge wait by the time we were done eating. The staff is so friendly and the chef is so accommodating. We had gulten free, oil free people in our party and they made stuff for all of us! The Vegan Deep Dish is too decadent for me, but everyone else enjoyed it. I had gnocchi with marinara sauce and could have eaten two plates!

Chicago deep dish pizza - Edit
We went to Masa's about a month ago for deep dish pizza and since it takes so long to bake, we ordered a thin crust pizza while we waited. Both pizzas were tasty, but the Teese was not melted enough in my opinion. We took some of the deep dish home as leftovers and the slices held together well. Dirk had been to Masa's before with co-workers as there's something for everyone there. We will probably be back the next time we are craving deep dish pizza.
