Tasty vegan udon but tempura cooked in the same oil as meat - Edit
The restaurant always has too long of a line outside, but there is also a take out window and outside seating available. There is only one vegan udon option, the Tan Tan noodles, which were very tasty, medium spicy, with soy "pork", carrots, cabbage and green beans. The udon noodles were thick, well seasoned and perfectly chewy. The price was very reasonable for Waikiki (less than $14 for the large bowl). Unfortunately, when I asked about the tempura, I was told that although the sweet potato and zucchini tempura are made with vegan ingredients, they're fried in the same oil as the chicken and seafood dishes. We therefore didn't try them.

Delicious Udon, but limited overall vegan options - Edit
The vegan udon is clearly marked and was fabulous! Their matcha tea is delicious as well. I was full after the giant bowl of udon goodness and didn’t get any tempura, but heard from others it is quite yummy too. They don’t have a lot of vegan options, but the udon is worth getting for sure!!

Vegan udon - Edit
Nice that you can get a big bowl of vegan udon, but it’s really not that special. Go in the afternoon because it gets a long line around dinner. But if it is dinner time and you don’t want to wait in line use the takeout window, it’s really fast.

Cons: Not that good, Takeout window was fast, Dinner time wait

Highly Satisfied and Delicious Noodles - Edit
It's virtually impossible to find vegan noodles/udon where I'm from, so I'm glad I tried this place. The vegan tan tan was delicious, and the noodles were great! The broth was very flavorful, especially with the added ginger and green onions on top. The price was quite reasonable too. It was $13.55 for the large portion. I could easily make two meals out of it. I suggest ordering for pick-up as it'll be way faster than waiting in the long line outside. Give this place a try if you're ever craving noodles!

Lil too salty but not bad 😜 - Edit
I went to the location in downtown Honolulu (Fort Street Mall). It’s amazing how they made these thick udon noodles completely vegan! The only vegan option they had was the tan tan and it was honestly pretty good for the price, I’m just not a big fan of ground soy meat in brothy dishes because all of it just sank to the bottom. 😅 I prefer tofu in this kind of stuff but if you’re looking for a plant-based udon, definitely consider checking it out. 🍜

Pros: The noodles were top notch , Staff is always kind
Cons: Too salty (for me), Tofu would be better than soy meat

Amazing! - Edit
My mom is visiting right now so we're spending time in Waikiki. She had been wanting to go here because there is always a line out the door and we finally got to. I was worried I would have to get something made with fish if I wanted to eat but there is a vegan dish they serve. Tan-tan udon. It was so delicious. I'm very very new to trying to be vegan and thus place went beyond my expectations. My mom, who is an omnivore, even tasted mine and loved it. It had the udon noodles and it was like a Thai chili broth. Some soy protein was in it also. If you are ok with eggs, they have tempura zucchini, sweet potato, and mushrooms that you can add in also. It's a little spicy, but I'm someone sensitive to spice and I didn't find it too much. Highly highly recommend this dish

Vegan udon - Edit
They now have a vegan Spicy Tan Tan that has soy meat! The meat itself If just okay and imo not necessary but I appreciate when businesses use it. Slowly people will realize it’s not scary. Id say 2/5 on the spice level. Probably manageable for most ppl. There’s also some vegetable tempura options and inari.

Great udon, tempura is NOT vegan friendly - Edit
Having lived on oahu for a couple years, I decided to try marugame and their udon is amazing. That being said, I was under the false impression from other users that their tempura was vegan, when it is NOT. I messaged marugame on their official social site to ask, and they said their tempura batter contains milk and eggs.

Amazing freshly made noodles - Edit
Worth the wait, we went here three times! Don’t be put off by the long queue, it moves quickly. The handmade noodles are amazing and they have a vegan broth. There are not many vegan options in this area so I would highly recommend this place.

1 labeled vegan option. - Edit
The noodles were phenomenal. The broth was pretty good. I wasn’t crazy about the ground soy but my non vegan family member liked it along with the rest of the dish.
Read moreI also got the mushroom tempura and the potato croquettes (based on the other reviewer saying they were vegan). The mushrooms were gross. The potato was good. I wish they were clearly labeled as vegan though.
Update: i ended up going here a few more times since leaving from vacation. The broth grew on me a lot. The soy was better the second time around too. I’m home now, but I find myself thinking about this udon here and there. Really good food. Takeout is fast too.

It's hard to find cheap food in Honolulu. This place does a big serve for $10. Skip the excessively long queue and order online to eat outside nextdoor. The soup is literally just udon noodles with tvp in broth, but it's salty and delicious and will fill you up

Not much for vegans, but delicious! - Edit
They have a delicious vegan miso udon bowl! The tempura is also fried without eggs, so many of the tempura items are vegan by default. My personal favorite was the sweet potato. This place is definitely worth trying!
Read moreEdit: The tempura items are fried in the same oil as some of their fish/meat, so if cross contamination is a problem for you I do not recommend this place.
