Vegan chicken and waffles? Nice!

Food is great, employees are rad. However, the environment is dark/worn down.

Pros: The food never disappoints!

Cons: Confusing menu.

Best Seitan I’ve ever had

Everyone else is right. The atmosphere is dark and dive bar-ish which is why this place is so great. I ordered the Chick’n and waffles, cheese burger, and wings (had to get a second order of wings because damn). Our service was impeccable and kind and the Seitan was perfectly prepared. Im trying to live here.

If you’re looking for something bougie and expensive this place is not for you.

Pros: 100% vegan , Best seitan ever, Comfortable and cheap

Questionable

I am a vegan living in Salt Lake and would have become a regular if I would have had a better experience here. I got the chicken and fries and my husband got the Rueben. The fries were good but the chicken was mush encased in a fried batter. My husbands Rueben was decent.
The questionable side of this place is the cleanliness. It smelled like sewage and every surface was dirty. The hostess/waitress pulled a shopping cart from Biglots into the dining area and started emptying garbage cans into it.
I am all about supporting local vegan restaurants. We’d like to try this again, but we’re a little scared.

Yes to food. No to everything else.

While the Chicken & Waffles were delicious, everything else was lacking. The hostess/waitress seemed to be annoyed that I was disrupting her peace. The first and only thing she said when I entered was letting me know the menu was "over there" and to come back to her to order. The menu was written in chalk on a black board, smudgy and hard to read. The water was lukewarm and never replenished and the waitress seemed to busy with her phone to ever do a quality check. I been to bars, clubs, and restaurants that you consider dingy and dark in a good way. This place just looked like an unfinished mess. The table was still sticky from the last visitor.

Best Chik’n & Waffles

So fresh, so good. Beats any vegan chicken and waffles I've had in NYC and elsewhere. The staff are friendly and rock the grungy underground vegan vibe. Also recommend the spicy chicken wrap. (See a trend here?)

Pros: Fresh and delicious vegan comfort food, Casual

Cons: Not too much variety

Worth a try

The ambiance is dark and decidedly divey, with growling frenetic metal playing. Given that, I expected beer. But alas, no beer. The menu had a number of things erased on our visit, but we ordered chick'n and waffles, French toast, grilled cheese, and The Beast (described as a Cobb salad). The food was all good, but very heavy. The Beast was a generous mix of romaine and spinach, veggies, with creamy dressing, cheese shreds, and fried seitan.

Pros: All vegan, traditional comfort food

Cons: Divey, dark, no beer, bad music

Great Spicy Chicken Wrap!

The spicy chicken wrap was so good, tried it with the fries which were of course good. I tried my friends grilled cheese with (grilled) onions and it was amazing and very gooey-american-cheesey.
I also tried the burger and was dissatisfied with how it tasted, which sucks because veg burgers are pretty reliable. Could easily me improved I'm sure.
Also the service was amazing!
Ps, the vibe was definitely grungy & heavy metal. Not your typical light airey salad cafe lol.

Pros: All Vegan, Amazing 'Chicken'

Cons: Burger was Sub-Par

Good, traditional, comfort food. Non-traditional atmosphere.

This place is worth visiting for some ''traditional'' comfort food done vegan style: burgers, fries, waffles, chicken, specialty PB&J, breakfast-type fare, and a bit more. I wish the menu was more descriptive though -- and more readily available because it's just a relatively small chalkboard hanging on a post which you can't see from the front entrance. As a first-timer, I walked into the restaurant wondering how to order.

At noon, on Saturday, this was my first visit. I got the chicken sandwich and fries which was pretty tasty overall. I don't know why, but I was expecting a chicken patty type of sandwich, but instead it was more like buffalo wings which was quite good. The sauce on the chicken was spicier than I was expecting or would have liked, but still good. The inside of the bun was toasted which I liked. The lettuce leaves were wilted though. The fries had a light taste of herbs and seasonings that was just right.

The ambiance of this restaurant is the differentiating factor here - it's geared toward some particular crowds. So, if you're wanting to dine in a bright, eco-green, healthy-like, sunlit ambiance, **this ain't that**. As the name of the business suggests, it's dark and a bit uncongenial for mainstream society -- which is what makes it more inviting to some. If you want to try Mark of the Beastro just for the food, go in the afternoon when they have cartoons playing on the TV. Others have said that the evenings can get loud, rowdy, and/or unconventional, especially if there's a show of some sort going on in the back venue area.
