Delicious!

Service was slow but it was worth the wait. I had the bok choy Chow Fun with smoked tofu. Definitely worth the extra $2 for the smoked tofu. It had good flavor and added some texture. My husband had the vegetables in black bean sauce which was also good but we both liked the Chow Fun more. It had more layered flavors.

Pros: Generous portion, Friendly staff

Very vegan friendly

Been here many many times as it’s a close go to for me. Many of the dishes are vegan when choosing the tofu option for protein. If it’s not obviously vegan ask! The servers are generally very knowledgeable.

Egg rolls = vegan and don’t skip these, they’re sooo good!

Dan Dan mien - can be made vegan with smoked tofu replacing pork - another one of my favorite dishes

Pros: Different tofu options(smoked is best!), Almost everything is or can be made vegan, Servers knowledgeable on what’s vegan

Cons: Service can be slow

Highly Recommend

The waiter was so nice, she even circled all the items that were popular vegan options for me. I had the vegetable noodles with fried tofu and a vegetable spring roll. There was even a vegan fortune cookie!

Pros: Great service, Great food, Great portions

Cons: A bit pricey

Any dish can be made vegan

I'm so glad this place is still here, as it brings me a lot of nostalgia from my old days living in Venice. It hasn't changed a bit since 2010, which is great. The restaurant is super accommodating to different dietary choices, like vegan and gluten-free, because they make everything from scratch. Loved the hot and sour soup and mapo tofu. Plus even the rice puffs they put on the table are gluten-free! AND, the food was super affordable for the quality and portion size. The female employee who took served on Saturday night was so kind and helpful, and I was thrilled that the vibe was so chill at 5pm (only a few people sitting inside, but many take out orders).

Delicious. Huge Portions.

I had a few plates (shared between a few of us) and everything was delicious. We had enough leftovers for each of us to take home.

Great atmosphere, Venice Institution

Mao’s has been around forever! Go support this local business that has a wide selection and huge portions. They can make almost every dish vegan so just let the waiter know!

My favorite is the scallion pancake, sesame and yam entree, and the $1 salad

Pros: Ambiance, Big portions

It’s okay!

Maos is a good easy option because they mark on the menu when you can ask for vegan versions! I personally think it’s a little greasy and bland and not super healthy but it’s good every once and awhile!

OK

Saw this on happycow and gave it a try recently. Here's my Mao's Kitchen review. The menu consists of a bunch of American Chinese style dishes. It lets you know which items are or have vegan options. We got the fried 'egg' roll and the scallion pancake to snack on. Both were all right. Entree-wise I did enjoy the a dish with handmade noodles dish and chose fried tofu cubes as protein. Overall it was ok, and I would return for the noodles.

good chinese food in Venice

I've only been to Mao's kitchen once, but I had a good experience. There are a couple of items on the menu that say (vegan) next to them, like the pancakes- which were amazing. And the kitchen will make other items vegan on request. They also serve brown rice.

Pros: convenient, opciones veganas, delicious and filling

Cons: serves meat, kind of greasy, but so i all Chinese food, gives plastic utensils with take-out.
