A Great Find. Thanks Happy Cow! - Edit
We went searching for him and found him, as noted, between Calle 37 & Calle 39 on Paseo de Montejo. Many thanks for the great tip from previous Happy Cow reviewers. My wife and I shared one tamale with mole and another with chickpeas. Both were delicious and I apologize for the lack of specifics. Just be careful. While I may have heard him wrong, I believe that he mentioned that one of his offerings that night had chicken as an ingredient. While his English was much better than my Spanish something may have been lost in translation.

Tam-alright - Edit
Nice guy and good to find a vegan stall but the tamales were a bit disappointing in themselves - not enough filling in one and somewhat disintegrating. 3 stars felt a bit harsh but 4 felt a bit too generous.

A must try! - Edit
Best option for trying vegan mexican tamales. They offer a wide variety of flavors, my favorites are:
Read more- Chicharron en salsa verde
- Lentils
- Mushrooms
- Vegetables in peanut sauce
As they don't have tables or chairs, is a good option to take home or to eat on the go.
Cons: Quickly sold out, Cash only

Don’t leave Merida without finding this incredible pot of tamales!! Such a sweet guy with incredible vegan food. I loved them all, but the tinga (which he recommended) was my favorite. Grab some dessert too!! Highly recommend.

Absolutely delicious! - Edit
A small table on the sidewalk selling only tamales. Might be tricky to park, no seating, not even utensils are provided, but it is all worth it. Suggestion: walk a block down the avenue, there's an oxxo with seating area, grab a coke or whatever you drink and you're all set!

You must try these! 💕 - Edit
We stumbled upon Manik Bal when walking along Paseo de Montejo. What a delightful surprise to find the tamales were all vegan. The Tinga de Zanahoria is an absolute must … so flavourful. My husband had the chocolate and loved it. We will definitely be back for more.

All vegan tamales are tasty, and the dude has a whole selection of different ones to choose from (35 pesos each for savory, 45 for sweet).

However, on our first visit he was setting up 20 min late, and in our second visit he wasn't there at all!

YUM - Edit
I don't normally like tamales but these were delicious. We ended up going back for more to take on our trip the next day and they were even good a day old. The spicey carrot and the papa ones were our fav.

Thank you Happy Cow - Edit
This is my first happy cow review, although I am a long time user. As I sat eating these incredible homemade tamales at a random spot in Merida, I got a huge rush of gratitude to all Happy Cow users that took the time to leave their feedback. The chances of me stumbling upon this spot on my own would be incredibly slim, but because of HC and others who took time to leave their feedback, my wife and I were able to enjoy this hidden gem.
Read moreGo find this spot. Get any tamale (depends which he has) sit on the curb, and enjoy your time in this beautiful city.
Oh, and be sure to leave him a tip.
Pros: Great selection, Homemade, Local

So good! - Edit
Authentic and vegan are not typically found together when describing Mexican food, but these tamales had well off the authentic flavors while remaining vegan! They were so tasty and filling and such a great price.

Tamales, from very creative to more traditional, large range, largely gluten free. Editing to add I think they may open at 7, my partner didn't see them when he went past earlier (Happy Cow says opens at 6, Google says 7).

Wildly good tamales - Edit
Was probably the best food we had during our stay in Merida. Manik Bal was easy to find, dude was sooo incredibly nice, we just asked him to load us up with his favorites. My favorites ended up being the Tinga de Zanahoria (a wildly flavorful carrot and veggie concoction) and the Chicharron en Salsa Verde (which I believe was a chicken seitan in salsa verde?). He said his partner was also set up on the other side of Paseo de Montejo and had a few additional options. We took a giant bag home for 4 of us and everyone loved it.
