Disappointing - Edit
I had really high hopes based on reviews and menu, but unfortunately my wife & I left feeling disappointed. The decor is nice and the menu is interesting, but the tables are very close together and the food did not impress (we had the krab spring rolls, vegetable dumplings, mushroom/leek risotto and squash wellington). We were also seated right next to the bar & kitchen which meant we constantly had staff squeezing passed (though we were able to move to a better table when it became free, on request). I also flagged up beforehand that it was my wife's birthday but absolutely nothing was done to acknowledge this. Also the wrong main dish was brought out so we had to wait a further 15-20 minutes for the correct main dish to be cooked with no apology from the staff. Overall, a disappointing experience for us.

Great Find in Portsmouth - Edit
Found this gem through Happy Cow when planning travel with a night in Portsmouth. Great menu with lots of fresh choices in a modern atmosphere. Enjoyed the mushroom risotto and beet gnocchi.

Mangosteen is a nice little restaurant with a varied menu and lots of vegan options. It’s a vegetarian restaurant but most of the menu is vegan or can be veganised.
Read moreWe were given a turmeric ‘wellness’ shot on arrival which I found really tasty! I think it tasted like a combination of orange juice, turmeric and ginger.
For starters we got the Vietnamese Bao Bun and Crispy Chilli Mushrooms. Both dishes arrived hot and fresh and were very tasty! The mushroom batter was very crispy and the bao buns also had a really good texture and flavour.
For our mains we got the Shahi Thali and Butternut Squash Wellington. The Butternut Squash consisted of the butternut squash itself with braised leek, parsnip purée and what I think was potato in an umami sauce. The flavours were all excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Definitely my favourite dish from our visit - it was so good!
The Thali was also good with a nice mixture of flavours, although I found it a little lacking in all honesty.
We also got a side of Truffle and Parmesan Fries which were a bit disappointing. They had a good texture with crispy coating and fluffy centre but I didn’t really like the flavour and I also couldn’t taste any truffle unfortunately.
As it’s a vegetarian restaurant I’ve knocked off half a star for using animal products so my rating for the food is out of 4.5.

Spectacular Vegan Food - Edit
Mangosteen was my first ever vegan experience. I came here for my first date with my now girlfriend. I had never in my life had and intentionally vegan meal, but I was not disappointed by the end. We had starter, main, desert and drinks, all of which were top tier.
Read moreAll the food was presented fabulously, tasted great and came out in good time. The place is decorated well and feels very upbeat but chill. The food is a bit fancier than the average chain restaurant and there is a great selection of cocktails and mocktail to pair alongside your meal.
I’ve returned several times since with my partner and we both love the place. Mangosteen holds a special place in my heart for sure.

We came here for dinner and decided to try a bunch of different meals all vegan. We loved the gnocchi, not carbonara, cabbage, leek, and bao. nice ambiance, and would definitely go back!

Found this gem of a restaurant thanks to HappyCow while on holiday nearby. Lovely varied menu with lots of vegan options. The Thali was particularly fab. This was a real treat after a week of such disappointing vegan options in the area. Highly recommend.

Read moreTook one star off because it's not fully vegan, they have a few dishes with dairy with no option to have a plant based version which is disappointing. There are lots of vegan dishes available and the food we had was good.
Staff were friendly and I would recommend the cocktails!

Nearly everything was vegan or had a vegan option. I was also thrilled to see a whole ton of GF symbols. The food was extremely well presented and the taste was outstanding. I'll be dreaming about the carbonara for a long time! I wish I could go every day!

A reasonably-sized restaurant in Southsea. The menu is all vegetarian and probably at least two thirds of that is vegan. In fact so much is either vegan or vegan option available they should just go fully vegan. The staff are friendly and the food, although a little intimidating because we have quite restricted palates, was actually delicious. On the more expensive side for the area but worth the money. The service was very slow though (not at all inattentive, just had long waits between courses etc). Definitely recommend.

Went as a group of 4 and everyone enjoyed it a lot (3 meat eaters who want to return and would recommend). Dishes are served beautifully.

We had a nice chat with the head chef at the end. Lovely music and decor.
Stand outs today for me - mushroom small plate lush, Wellington delicious, tropical smoothie fab and both the sticky toffee apple and chocolate delice were lovely. Ace that all desserts vegan! Meat eaters liked the carbonara.

Read moreThe menu appears to be 100% vegan now. Some highlights were the Bang Bang Broccoli, The Plant Taco, Pho and the Parmesan fries.
There was a pretty big table of around 20 in with us and that usually affects the service but it didn't make a single problem in our service at all. They were all friendly and the food came out quick.

Great food and a mostly vegan menu, I would love to see the place go fully vegan I’m not sure why it isn’t when everyone can eat vegan food but vegans can’t eat vegetarian! The pasta was AMAZING I think about it often haha. Lovely atmosphere and wonderful staff.

Happy that we came across this after initially seeing it on Happycow, then just looking for something while passing and ending up passing this mostly vegan restaurant. Although we had no reservation there was plenty of seating. We enjoyed our starters and mains. The menu offers a bit of everything; from burgers to thali, curry and pasta. Friendly service. Chic decor.

Read moreStarters were always good but some mains were disappointing, however this time we enjoyed the new mains on the menu. Sticky toffee pudding on the dessert menu is indulgent and delicious. Service is good and the decor and ambience are lovely.
Everything on the new menu is now marked as vegan, but there is still a salad featuring feta cheese and it isn’t clear whether they have now changed that to vegan feta.

Really loved the food here. All tasted so good! Cocktails are nice too. My only criticism is the wait time. Definitely not somewhere you'd eat if you haven't got much time. Also, dessert size is disappointing for the cost.
