Vegan heaven! - Edit
🇬🇧
Read moreI have actually found this place on HappyCow and thought to take out my non-vegan friends for dinner.
We were all so surprised and happy - we basically took a little of everything - avocado tartines, chickpea crêpe with a very very good dressing and filling and some tasty and savoury mushrooms.
An iced latte followed next with a meringue dessert and some really good chocolate truffles.
Everything vegan.
You would usually expect from being dishes to be not much or too much.
This was the perfect BALANCE.
We weren't having a good day all of three and we got our really really happy.
So please, congrats with the chefs and the kitchen for us and thanks to the staff for being so kind and polite!
Pros: Lots of vegan options, Gourmet options, Friendly staff
Cons: May be expensive

Bit pricey but worth a visit - Edit
Very nicely decorated veggie and vegan restaurant. IMO better for an evening meal than breakfast, as the breakfast was a bit small for me. As a non-smoker, I'd also recommend going on a nice day when you can sit outside

Fancy, excellent and very good service - Edit
This place has Fancy and friendly decor (Despite some pretentious sloganeering masked as art) and if the weather is right plenty of outdoor seating. The food is not all vegan which is a shame given that what they do is so good they could surely do everything cruelty free. Still it’s organic, locally produced where possible and healthy (except the coconut sugar levels in the chocolate berry dessert!). We had a carrot and zucchini soup that was a very fine starter followed by a carrot and chive creamy tartine (that’s a fancy way of saying - on toast) which was gloriously subtle. That was one of the helpful and honest recommendations we took from the waitress who was just so damn nice we both fell for her before the meal was over. Next up we had the mushroom steaks with potato and spinach which I would have happily eaten another 3 or 4 plates of on the spot! The other main was the creamy veggie crepe which was also very good. We were running out of time so only one desert was an option and so we followed Ms Nice’s advice and had the chocolate berry dessert. This consists of four balls of subtlety differently flavoured dark chocolate and some raspberry sorbet. That might not sound so special but believe me this is a dessert to be savoured, sucked, swirled around your mouth and let slowly slip down your gullet so you can fully savour it’s full decadent delight. True it’s probably a little too sweet even with the sorbet balance but geez what cocoa succulence :)
Read morewe also had a very tasty fresh juice mix called Joy, which is my fave- carrot, apple, ginger and a little orange. And a smoothie called an Inca Warrior which was more of a dessert than a drink! And a damn fine one at that.
The above meal which was shared by two cost 5500dinas including the tip which is about £40 (45euros) so its pricey for locals who are not in the mafia but not expensive by london standards and better than many meals that costs more there!
Treat yourselves
However there is potentially one really inexplicable downside to eating here and that is other diners who smoke! Here is a restaurant making big claims and efforts to provide healthy food in a pleasant environment and yet it can be instantly ruined by some selfish lowlife smoking at the table next to you. We were lucky there was only one one such grotesque creature poisoning our pleasure tonight and she was sat on the other side of the room but I couldn,t believe it when I smelt the sickening odour drift our way.
Good luck!
Pros: Super service, Great food, many vegan options
Cons: Smoking allowed inside, They propose to reduce the number of vegan option, Not cheap.

Mixed feelings - Edit
The place and the messages on the walls are good. The food is good but overpriced. The atmosphere and music are good. Upstairs there is a shop from the same owner and there are a lot of dead animal decorations – skulls with horns, hides, animal skin, feathers and so on. Which is very unexpectable from a vegetarian place. Those things are usually called hunting trophies but they told me that those were made of animals that have died of natural causes. And all those are specially shipped from Bali to Serbia. That was very disappointing from a vegetarian place.

Worth trying - Edit
The place is beautiful, the staff is nice and the food is very good. I loved the fact that they have many options but not too many.
Read moreI had the avocado tartine which was really good (probably not the most useful choice!) the Alkaline juice and The Elena’a something smoothie, both great. My friend (who’s not even vegetarian) got the wrap with the dairy sauces and he really enjoyed it (pretty sure the vegan sauces would be very good as well). And he got the berry chocolate (plant-based) for desert, he loved it! I had a try but I don’t really like chocolate ganache so I don’t have an opinion but it comes with a raspberry sorbet and it was one of the bests I’ve ever had.
Pros: Very nice menu, Tasty food , Beautiful place
Cons: A bit overpriced

Delicious food and a fine dining experience. It is much more expensive than the rest of belgrade but honestly it is worth the money. Make sure you specify you’re vegan as not all labelled vegan options are vegan (pasta has eggs in it).

Not bad, but I can’t say I was overly impressed with the quantity of food vs. the prices. Also, if it’s a vegetarian / vegan restaurant, having a cow skin rug in the display case is pretty tacky.

Wow - Edit
Amazing food with a large proportion of vegan options. The dishes were all presented beautifully and the flavours were well-balanced. As it's a bit more fancy the portions are relatively small (I had the ravioli and you get 4 large pieces for example) but with a starter, main and dessert I was struggling to finish in the end!
Read moreThe ravioli was the standout dish for me but the corn cakes and berry chocolate dishes were also really tasty.
It is on the expensive side but you get what you pay for in this regard. It was still miles cheaper than what I'd pay for the same thing back home so I was happy.
Really nice location and I sat on the tables on the street with candles and plants which was a nice touch. Highly recommend a visit.

Heaven is expensive - Edit
The Mandala is located in direct proximity to the Save (Branko’s Bridge) in a quiet street. Inside looked nice, we sat outside (summer) and were very pleased with the calm atmosphere and the lighting at the surrounding houses.
Read moreLocal craft beers are served there and you can choose between different types. Ours was ok but I’m not too much into craft beer, so that doesn’t necessarily have to be a measure.
The menu is obviously all vegetarian, many dishes can be ordered vegan (option is clearly labelled) or are always vegan.
We (3) had lasagna (vegetarian, with different types of cheese), vegan kofte and the burger. I found the dishes to be creative and the last two very delicious, especially the chickpea fries which accompanied the burger were excellent. Due to the small size of each dish (lasagna was larger), we ordered two desserts, the ice cream (seasonal taste, ours was raspberry) and some sort of chocolate ganache-bomb that can be ordered as a vegan version as well and is the thing you want if you’re in love with sweet chocolate. It comes with raspberry sorbet as well. Highlight!
Overall, we paid around 50€ (6000 Dinar I think it was) including drinks. An average price for European guests I suppose, regarding the market prices in Belgrade and the average wages, this is a high end restaurant there though. Their standard is displayed in the size of each dish, they expect people to order at least starter or dessert.
The price level is acceptable from my point of view though, they use good quality ingredients (at least partly organic), a vegetarian restaurant wasn’t too easy to find although the location is nice, the service was excellent (perfect English as well) and the food is absolutely delightful!
Pros: All vegetarian, many things are vegan, Great taste!, Nice seating & service
Cons: Relatively expensive regarding size

One of the best vegetarian restaurants I've ever been to - Edit
We went to Mandala after a difficult search for vegetarian restaurants in Serbia.
Read moreMandala is simply one of the best vegetarian restaurants I've ever been to.
It combines sophistication and high quality products with health and taste.
Besides, the waiters are very professional, the restaurant, which is also a design studio, is brilliantly decorated, with a lot of taste (the owner is a designer and interior architect).
We had the opportunity to discuss with the very nice man who is also the owner of Mandala, and we had the nicest and most interesting discussions.
A substantial part of the vegetables in our plates, at the Mandala, come from their own organic farm ?
What else to say ? I would recommand this 100% to any food lover, vegetarian or not.
You will be satisfied by everything, I honestly have nothing not enthusiastic to say about this place.
And as a bit Carl G. Jung and esoteric symbols fan, I really loved that there were several quotes from Jung + esoteric symbols such as the flower of life or small merkaba jewels at the Mandala.
Also, the location of the Mandala is really nice, if you visit Belgrade you need to take a nice stroll in that area.
Money wise, as French tourists we did not think that Mandala was very pricey even by Belgradian standards.
It might be on the pricey side for some people but think it is not just a regular health restaurant, the food is delicious yet sophisticated. And great restaurants are always a bit more pricey than fast food, think about it !
