Extensive and impressive vegan menu! - Edit
We were delighted to see the huge vegan menu that this restaurant provides. Loads of options for starters, mains and dessert. I got the carbonara for main which didn't impress me that much but the others at the table had pizzas which were very good! Lovely dessert. Well done and thank you for catering for vegans.

Good to try - Edit
Huge offering for vegans which is absolutely great and quite rare for an Italian. The atmosphere is so cute and I enjoyed our meal that little bit more because of it. I had the vegan carbonara when I visited which to be completely honest wasn't that great but serous kudos to them for attempting to vegan use such a hard dish! Regardless of that, I'd definitely go back and try one of the other dishes on the menu as they've clearly put a lot of effort into it and I've heard the tomatoe dishes are superb. I also had a vegan peanut butter cheesecake dessert that came with TWO scoops of different vegan ice creams. This was my the highlight of my meal as well as the friendly staff. I think this is great place To go in newcastle if you are with a a group of meat eaters.

Bellissimo! - Edit
Mama Mia's has always been an Italian restaurant favourite of mine in Newcastle and I have had many a fine vegetarian meal there over the last ten years. Fast forward to 2015 and now Mama Mia's has its own 'green' Vegan menu! Finally you can order a pizza with vegan cheese and a pasta with delicious creamy cheese sauce such as the broccoli carbonaro. The vegan menu has the popular staples such as potato skins (vegan mayo and BBQ sauce), Arabiata, good selection of pizza's but now includes a vegan mushroom pate and the amazing chocolate brownie! All food is at affordable prices and a happy hour menu is also available. Did I mention they have their own vegan menu too! Check it out.

How can I resist you - Edit
This place has been here for decades, I used to go quite a lot in the early 2000s for vegetarian pasta and pizza which was always good prior to a few drinks in Newcastle. Now it has its own separate vegan menu which is quite a revelation. There are at least 4 or 5 vegan starters and main courses and 3 deserts. You cannot go wrong with traditional Italian potato skins, a beautiful risotto and a sticky toffee pudding to finish. Washed down with some sparkling water and a glass / bottle of Pinot, this is a treat to behold. You will find Mamma Mias just off the Bigg Market on the back lane that takes you down to the Central Station area.

Excellent - Edit
It won't let me give it 5 cows (as it's not veggie only) but it fully deserves them. The staff are incredibly friendly and eager to accommodate veggies and vegans and just generally provide amazing service. They have a special vegan menu of the most incredible food. I eat here all the time- it's that good! Would fully recommend it! And it's cheap too!

Awesome - Edit
First, I have to say that I adore Mamma Mia's and always have. My parents ate here in the 80s and when I moved to Newcastle for uni I started eating here too. It's great, cheap Italian food, even if they can't do flaming sambucas any more due to health and safety.
Read moreSince becoming a vegetarian I've found the menu very accommodating - the menu is enormous and there really is something for everyone. I often ask for extra toppings and ingredients and am always served something delicious. I haven't tried asking for pizza without cheese but as I start to eat less and less dairy I'll certainly be doing this on my next visit. Brilliant restaurant all round.
Make sure you get potato skins as a starter!
Pros: Cheap, Friendly and family-run, Busy but always a spare table
Cons: Has been greasy on occasion
