Weekly menues and daily specials - Edit
Was eating there on a nearly daily base during my two weeks stay in Puerto. Never had anything less than amazing plates - both in taste and visually. The best coffee on the island, the desserts are heavenly and the owners perfect hosts. So much love for Malaika and THE main reason for me to return to Tenerife.

THE BEST PLACE in tenerife - Edit
Long overdue review since I have been visiting Malaika ever since I moved to Puerto de la Cruz a year ago. The food is not only 100% vegan but also 100% certified organically grown ingredients. And it is delicious. Whenever someone wants to invite me for lunch or afternoon tea I tell them there's only one place I want to eat and that's Malaika. I cannot understand the review of the person who complained it was expensive compared to other places on the island: how can you compare a restaurant that serves junk food with one that offers gourmet home-made 100% organic food. And asking for fries? If that's the kind of diet you want, why not go to Mc Donald's? The young couple who run Malaika have become dear friends and I so appreciate the hard work they put in preparing delicious healthy 100% vegan food. As far as desserts go they're all out-of-this world : every time I taste one of Massimiliano's latest creation I decide it's my favourite (the latest being the tiramisu), until I try the next one. Manuela who prepares the savoury dishes is equally talented. My latest try was the black rice with vegetables. One thing visitors to our island might not be aware of is the difficulty in obtaining organic produce so M & M.'s dedication to keeping to 100% organic is truly comendable. And in view of the high price of organic produce here, I for one am amazed at how cheap their prices are. As a long-term vegan (more than 25 years) who has travelled to many countries, Malaika is my N°1. I had been pestering them to organise a workshop and they did a few weeks ago (vegan pastry making): when I realised just how much hard work went into the elaboration I developed even more appreciation (especially after I tried to recreate one of the recipes at home and it was a bit of a culinary disaster. Massi is definitely a Maestro!

organic tasty vegan food - Edit
Nice people, lovely bright atmosphere .
Read moreHomemade whole food. Organic. Not as cheap compared to other places but probably worth it considering the quality of the food.
I had the burger which was delicious. Not best vegan patty I ever had but reasonable tasty. The bun was good- whole flour and homemade.
Husband had lasagne which was ok.
He was overwhelmed by chocolate cake and fruit cake. Also liked the green coffee a lot.
Pros: great variety of snacks

Too expensive to be in Tenerife - Edit
It wasn't cheap as the rest of the places in Tenerife. I like to go out in the island because of the prices, and it really impressed me when I looked at the prices. And, at least, if you pay for a expensive hamburguer, you hope that it has fries or something. I think that the product was good elaborated, but too expensive to be in Tenerife.

Malaika, Puerto de la Cruz - Edit
Malaika was an organic and cruelty-free vegan Spanish café that offered take-out and a huge range of teas. The prices were so reasonable too which proves that organic restaurants really don’t need to be overpriced! Puerto de la Cruz is a large resort and has that ‘bustling’ city feel to it. Malaika was located on a street with shops and people walking around. This was totally different to what I was used to in the south of Tenerife where things were much quieter. There were vegan and cruelty-free logos all over the place which got the attention of passers by who looked in and gazed at our meals. I would recommend Malaika if you’re looking for a quick meal or a to-go lunch as its more of a café than a restaurant. It has sandwiches, cakes and pizzas ready for you to take out with you, I noticed a lot of people were doing so while we were eating!
Read moreWhat I ate: I had a filling lentil and carrot soup with fresh bread, peppermint tea in a cute teapot, fruit cake for dessert.
