Tasty ramen 🍜

I had the vegan black garlic ramen and it was soo good! I also had the pumkin croquettes and they were amazing as well. Very soft texture on the inside and super crispy on the outside… served with plenty of vegan mayo 😁
The food was delicious, the staff very Friendly and there were many vegan options clearly marked on the menu (5 different ramen, 3 different sushi, and starters such as the pumpkin croquettes, kimchi, edamame, algae salad)
The only downside was that the place was really busy and also, for some reason, my soup was the first thing to arrive (even before our drinks) 😅

Pros: Delicious ramen, Several vegan options

Cons: Busy place, Dishes arrived in random order

Good ramen in Edinburgh

Cool place for ramen and sushi, a lot of vegan options! We got both and it was really good. They also have vegan bacon to add

Great spot

Great spot for walk ins as service is super quick. The black garlic tonkotsu was so good, black garlic is a must. Full of flavour. We also had sides of gyozas and kimchi (extra is a must always). Plenty of choice and good service. No complaints.

Pros: Quick service, Great menu choice

Cons: Toilets not the best

So good!

We got take away from this place and it was so tasty 😋 I got the vegan Katsu curry dish and my mom got the vegan miso ramen 🍜 it’s unfortunate that the app won’t let me give a 5 star rating. Had no issues. We ordered at the front desk and got our food in less than 10 minutes! (And the place was full too!)
The only con was that my mom didn’t realize that the broth for her ramen was in a secret kind compartment under her noodles and stuff so she thought they were stuck together bc the noodles absorbed the liquid or something 😅😅😂

Pros: Vegan Katsu Curry, Short wait time for take away

Cons: Confusing take away container 💀😂

Wonderful

Decent options, they have vegan items clearly labeled and service was quick. Ramen bowls were generously sized and very good (especially after a day of walking around in the chilly rain!)

Worth a visit

Really enjoyed the food. Pretty much a vegan alternative for everything. Big portions, don't need to order much. Staff were friendly, showed my partner how to use chopsticks when asked

Pros: Vegan choices , Big portions , Friendly staff

Good marks for effort but better places are available

I tried the ‘V Black Garlic Tonkotsu’, one of five vegan ramen dishes on their menu. It was very tasty, with ‘This Isn’t Bacon’ rashers on top and all the other imaginative ingredients pictured in their online menu. Unfortunately it wasn’t very hot (temperature-wise), and the portion was maybe not quite as generous as similar-type dishes elsewhere.

Service was fast and friendly, and the place was extremely busy and lively at 18.30 on a Wednesday in February, so clearly they are doing something right!

However, there are much better vegan options available in Edinburgh now. I can imagine going to Maki & Ramen if in the company of omnis who need their meat, but I wouldn’t go back there otherwise.

Pros: imaginative, tasty ramen, fast, friendly service

Cons: broth a bit lukewarm, better value for money available elsewhere

Decent choice of vegan ramen

It's not the best place in Edinburgh for ramen (go to Gulp!) but it's a nice place to go and they have 5 or so vegan ramen to choose from, when they only had one for ages. Yasai roll is also vegan. Food came fast but drinks came slow. Ordered a ramen that was supposed to come with vegan bacon but they subbed for tofu without letting me know. Also a friend was given an egg on top by mistake and they just scooped it off before she insisted that they brought a new one.

Unimpressed

Tbh I was not impressed with Maki and Ramen. Their selection of vegan options was quite poor, they had zero vegan dessert options. The plus sides were the vegan tonkotsu broth was how I would imagine a meat based broth tastes.
The negatives were a very poor selection, and staff weren't very friendly, they were not rude but gave an air of impatience.
I would not recommend this place, Wagamama is much better go there instead

Pros: Dedicated vegan menu, Broth was "creamy" like you'd expect from tonkotsu

Cons: Poor selection , Unfriendly staff, Portions not great

Definitely worth a try at a push

Not massively expensive, but not particularly good either. The noodle bowls were generous and appetising, but the pumpkin katsu curry was bland, with gloopy curry sauce, underspiced pumpkin and the promised kimchi 'no longer offered', except by special request. There are excellent independents less than 5 minutes away, but I'd go again, if only at a push.

Pros: Vegan menu, Warm ambiance, Staff

Cons: Uneven food offerings , Better places in the area
