Vegan options - Edit
I have always loved this little cafe - always plenty of vegan options or things that can be made vegan. Lately, with the new owners they seem to be out of ingredients, but there is always a delicious option available. Great coffee!

Good food, small portions - Edit
Funky Cafe, seems like a popular student hang out. Got the Larry David and a bagel with cream cheese. They ran out of ingredients so couldn't get the tofu sandwich. Only white bagels available which were just ok. Cream cheese the same on both items, a dill version which I wasn't expecting. Good thing I like dill or would have been unhappy

My fav cafe ever - Edit
I started coming to Mahtay over a decade ago and just love the ambiance. I’ve been to many cafes across Canada and it is really hard to find any other cafe that compares… ESPECIALLY now that they offer all of their sandwiches with vegan options. I find it to be super reasonably priced and enjoy myself every time I visit.

Can’t Stay Awahtay - Edit
Our new favorite morning spot with plenty of great vegan options. The vegan muffin was moist and did not stick to the sides and wasn’t a mess to eat. It was scrum. A little herbal tea to boot. They have the cutest bar in the back for a little alchy time. Cozy atmosphere. And they’re actually open at a normal time for coming to get coffee which is the bees knees what’s wrong with places around here.

Our new favorite morning spot - Edit
Chill atmosphere with very friendly staff. They were happy to help us find the vegan options. We were looking for somewhere to grab a bite and some coffee and they were the only thing open in the area before 11am. So happy we found them because they had vegan baked goods like muffins and breads, vegan hot and cold drinks and i even got a vegan bagel & cream cheese. Everything was great and hit the spot. Go check this place out if you just want a chill cafe with solid vegan options!

Good Vibes - Edit
I am a regular here. Great atmosphere and cool staff. Everything can be made vegan at no extra cost and I quite enjoy the food. They hold lots of events like open mics, poetry slams, LGBTQ meetups, etc. Really welcoming space for anyone. Only down fall is that they are a bit pricy for some people but I never mind paying extra at an awesome small business!!

Everything you could want - Edit
Almost all menu options can be veganized, and daily soup options to keep you coming back for more. Lots of nondairy milks including oat milk! They also make superfood lattes which are also tasty.
Read moreDownside: I asked about what brands they used to veganize a product and was told that they use whatever’s in stock, so you may order a veganized sandwich twice and get different versions.
Pros: Affordable! A sandwich and a coffee were 9 w tip, Lots of options, Daily and weekly events
Cons: Swaps aren’t always the same brand, The espresso is exceptionally bitter

Cute cafe with lots of space to spread out, board games, cozy areas, regular tables and bar seating. They can veganize almost anything.

We got two "best vegan breakfast sandwich" and an avocado toast and 2 large coffee for $22 plus tip. The food was great, but unfortunately, we all were ready for breakfast when we left.

Great Breakfast at a Good Price! - Edit
My family and I stopped in here yesterday morning and were thrilled that almost everything on the menu could easily be made vegan. We got the vegan breakfast pizza, the best damn vegan sandwich in town (I think that's what it was called), and some other tasty things.
Read moreEverything was fantastic. Portion sizes and pricing were perfect for breakfast. The coffee was hot and delicious. And as a family with a small child, it was nice to have lots of space to spread out and eat without feeling like we were potentially bothering other customers.
The owner stopped by our table to chat with us and clearly works hard to bring new vegan ideas to the menu. They try lots of new vegan products to make sure their quality is top-notch.
I'm usually skeptical about "we can veganize anything" options, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to other vegans and I can't wait to stop back again next time we're in town. Don't miss it!
Pros: Great prices, Amazing Staff, They really can vegan anything
Cons: I don't live close enough to stop in every day

The atmosphere of this place brings me nostalgia of North Shore Hawaii or something. I love it so much. Drinks are amazing. Tons of vegan options - decent quality food. Games and events are a must. Go here if youre in the area.

Great atmosphere and lots of vegan options but... - Edit
I go here a lot and I always rely on their vegan options, but unfortunately today I went and they messed up. They brought out my pulled jackfruit and announced “vegan pulled jackfruit sandwich.” I took a bite and realized it was real pork and there was a human error. I was mortified, but I am also Muslim so my morals were violated on more than one level. I tried my best to be polite and ask them to remake it and told them what happened, the woman making the sandwich seemed confused and slightly annoyed that I was making her remake it. I’m really sad this happened. I will probably go back because I understand that things happen, but now I feel responsible for an animals death, I ate pork against my religion, and I didn’t feel heard when I complained to the person making my sandwich.

Great for niagara area but overpriced and small portions - Edit
They’ve got a great vibe here - not sure what the other review was on about because most their dishes can be made vegan and have a leaf next to reflect that. good coffee and lovely options however expensive for the serving size. We ordered nachos and it was maybe a pinch of cheese and then chips so don’t get those. I would give it a 3 star except there’s not much else in the area that’s truly vegan - and the staff are always nice. Very hipster vibe and I’d say to go for a coffee and snack not a full meal.
