One star for the atmosphere. Service is poor and the vegan option is not great.

Ate here back in 2017 and loved it. Today is was quite disappointing.

Pros: Riverwalk views

Cons: Options, Service , Food

Good burger

I just really wanted somewhere to get a good old burger and chips!
A beyond burger is always a good shout, it was cooked great!
And the pickle was good too! Nice spot by the river, nice staff

Have a beyond burger

If you’re looking for a place to eat on the river walk it’s a good option. I was glad to have the beyond burger as an option, but it was slightly undercooked. I’m pretty sure beyond burgers are only supposed to be served fully cooked. So maybe emphasize ‘well done’ lol. If it was fully cooked would’ve given 4 stars.

Pros: Fun environment

Cons: Very loud-music and fans

Limited options, hilarious from a British perspective.

Stopped in while we were in San Antonio. The burger was nice but appeared to be the only Vegan option.

From a British perspective the decor is absolutely hilarious, ranging from a stained glass window saying “God Save The Queen” (should probably get that updated) while simultaneously selling a “Black & Tan” to another stain glass window saying “Fish & Chips” and “Yards”. No British beers/drinks on the menu (although a few Irish ones).

Can’t tell how hard they’re going on the British theme but it’s not massively authentic, worth a laugh if you’re from the UK.

Pros: Hilarious if you’re British

Cons: Very limited options

Very limited

The beyond burger is the only vegan menu item. We had just the fries. Small portion for $6. I would skip it if there wasn't a meat eater in the group. Live music was nice.

Pros: Very limited , Friendly service , Riverwalk atmosphere

Cons: Expensive , No real vegan options

One option, but good!

The only thing we found that was vegan was a beyond burger with lettuce, tomato and onion with a pickle. Burger also has an aioli sauce, which we did not ask about and may be vegan (we just scraped it off.) We got one with regular fries and one with sweet potato fries. Not a vegan’s paradise, but there is an option if you’re going out with meat eaters or want an option on the Riverwalk!

Pros: Well-cooked beyond burger, Optional sweet fries

Cons: Just one option

Not vegan friendly

This place has some vegetarian options but vegan options are basically non-existent. We ended up talking to the chef who made us a small dish with vegan sausage, some sweet potatoes, and mushrooms. It tasted good but the portion size was very small. Still, it was nice of the chef to try to accommodate us. If you’re vegan though, go somewhere else.

Veggie Bangers and Mash are the thing to get.

Two very tasty veggie sausages on potatoes. No gravy is included in the veggie option. I added the beans and a side of toast. The beans are also vegetarian.

Great food and nice people

The veggie bangers are banging! And they have Smithwicks on tap!

Pros: Clearly marked veggie options.

Cons: Not a lot of options

Meh

Great location with a nice view of the riverwalk, but the vegan options were only ok. My carnivore partner really enjoyed the scotch eggs as well as the fish & chips.

Confirmed 8/12 no vegan options

I asked one of the servers to check in the kitchen if they had ANY vegan options and the answer is “no.” Even bangers and mash...so sad.

Pleasant surprise

Was a great surprise to find veggie options at a pub! Not your usual veggie menu. They use beyond meat products and they were delicious.
They need to use a veggie gravy for the bangers and mash so it’s not missing something and it would’ve benefitted from more onions but that didn’t stop me enjoying it!

Pros: Casual atmosphere, Founders were vegetarian so no sigma, Delicious food with great options

Cons: No veg menu meant searching for the veg options, No gravy on bangers and mash, Limited desserts (3)

No longer very vegan friendly

Stopped here during a business trip based on reviews here on Happy Cow.
I have to report the veggie burger has cheese in the Pattie, the mash always has milk in it and is made in large batches.
The BLT came as a roll with lettuce and overcooked vege bacon (they forgot the tomato... seriously). We arranged sausage, chips and beans for another meal out of the sides but the sausages were very badly overcooked and the chips were few, the serving if beans was tiny.
I would not eat there again as they don't appear to understand the basics of catering.

Pros: They had vinegar for the chips.

Cons: Just terrible.

1st time, great time

I had the bangers and mash plate and I asked for it vegetarian. Non-vegetarian I think it comes with gravy so as vegetarian it was really dry. Friends got fish and chips and it was very good. They had some vegetarian options and I liked that the original founder was vegetarian. I appreciate that wearing fur is not allowed inside of the restaurant. The music that played the whole time was some of my favorite music and it was a good time overall. You can eat inside or out and we chose to sit inside because it was chilly outside and I had my 5 month old baby. I'm glad we did choose inside over sitting outside on the nice Riverwalk because I got to see the inside of this fun, friendly, great vibing restaurant. I also paired this with restaurant.com coupon and took $25 off our $50 meal. I will definitely return.

Pros: Great music, Vegetarian options, Fun atmosphere

Cons: No vegan options, Written-on diaper changing station, No ramp for strollers. Have to use lift.

Veg options in English pub

Before eating at Mad Dogs, I called to ask about vegan options and was put on the phone with the head chef, who was very helpful! He suggested the BLT with veggie bacon and no mayo (I ordered this and added avocado), or the bangers and mash with a baked potato or fries instead of the mashes potatoes (which are not vegan). They use vegan Tofurkey sausages for the bangers and mash. The BLT wasn't the best vegan meal I've ever had, but it was tasty, and I would go back to Mad Dogs with non-veg family or friends.

Great creative vegetarian options!!

I had the vegetarian Bangers and Mash. Fabulous and creative. Easy to do vegan- just sub the mashed for another type of taters- chips anyone? Thanks for offering so many great choices- very enjoyable food and atmosphere!

Many choices

The Riverwalk is kind of short on veggie-friendly options, so it was nice to find a restaurant that has a separate vegetarian section of the menu. They offered vegetarian versions of British classics like pot pie and bangers and mash, plus some sandwiches. I had the portobello one, which had a nice balsamic glaze, while my fiancé had the homemade veggie burger. Cheese must be ordered for an additional charge, so you'll never find some unexpectedly on your sandwich.

Pros: Separate vegetarian menu section, No fur allowed in restaurant
