Great options, Big burritos - Edit
The burritos are mungo jungo huge you could probably split if you aren't crazy hungry. The tofu was good. The server was very knowledgeable and kind. The vegan cheese melted in the burrito and we were offered vegan sour cream.

Big portions - Edit
When I visit Erie Mad Mex is my go to. I love the Pennsyltucky Fried Tofu. They have vegan cheese, vegan sour cream and tofu. This is a great option when you’re looking for a spot that non vegans will like as well.

Massive portions - Edit
Their food is excellent, and they have massive portions! They used to sell the MorningStar chorizo, but it seems like that’s off the menu now. The tofu is not very good to be honest. It’s squishy and flavorless. I usually just get a black bean burrito. I love that they offer vegan cheese and vegan sour cream!!

Lots of options - Edit
I loved all the options this place had and they had great margaritas as well, but I felt like the food itself tasted kind of bland and the vegan cheese was put on the nachos right out of the bag with no attempt of trying to melt it (which is my preference for cheese on nachos; melted not shredded but maybe that’s just me). The burrito was tasty and so was the tofu! I also liked the skeleton artwork inside

Not good for takeout - Edit
The burritos were huge, but folded into a square and really hard to eat in the car. The flavor was okay, but it was really greasy and messy.

A Tasty, Reliable Go-To with Fabulous Tofu! - Edit
Mad Mex has been a regular stop for us, particularly when dining with non-vegan family and friends. Lots of vegan options, and they seem to be adding more all the time. Highly recommend the Herb O’Vore’s Tofu Tacos, the Roasted Veggie Bowl, and the Pennsyltucky Tofu. Also….great, warm tortilla chips with fresh salsa & guac is always a great way to start!

Just okay - Edit
Food was fine, definitely wouldn’t go again if I had other options. They do have a lot of vegan options which is nice. I don’t think it’s that the vegan food is worse than the carnist food either, as my companions who ate meat thought it was just okay as well.

I wish I could make tofu that well - Edit
Mad Mex has some of the best tofu I've had. Lots and lots of vegan options, including vegan cheese, ranch, and sour cream. I'm a guy of habit, so I like to order the Tofu Wrapture with waffle fries.

OMFG! - Edit
I got the Blackbeanie Quesadilla with vegan cheese and tofu (be aware black bean mix has a small amount of dairy in it) and the tofu tacos. Safe to say the food far exceeded my hopes, and I have a high bar for food. The flavor of everything was unbelievable. Food never tasted this good even when I was stoned.

Great Plant Based options - Edit
Huge menu with lots of plant based / vegan options. Our waitress was very helpful. The food was all delicious and portions sizes are nice and big. The decor is really cool. I would go out of my way to eat here again!
Wish we had one in Ontario.

So many vegan options! - Edit
There were so many vegan options, I had a hard time choosing! I eventually went with the Herb’ ovores tofu tacos with guacamole. They were delicious! My tofu hating spouse tried a few bites and continued to eat the whole taco proclaiming it was the best tofu he’s ever tasted.

good vegan Mexican food - Edit
The menu clearly states what is veg friendly, and what can be altered to be veg friendly. I sat at the bar, and the bar tender was very knowledgeable and gave menu suggestions to ensure I had a pleasant vegan experience. I ordered the Tofu Wrapture with buffalo sauce and daiya cheese, and he offered me vegan ranch dressing to go with it. Overall, I'm pleased.

Awesome food! Staff is super knowledgeable about vegan food. Try the fall vegetable tacos! Amazing. They'll even do the quesedillas on the kids menu with tofu and bring them veggies with vegan branch as an appetizer. My vegan kids love it!

So many options! - Edit
Here's the rundown: Mad Mex specializes in "Cal-Mex", which is basically a healthy, fresh take on Mexican. Their menu is huge and has vegan and vegetarian options in every section (except dessert, unfortunately). They denote vegetarian items with a green cactus, and they denote items that can be made vegetarian by substitution with a red cactus next to the item name. For any item, they offer free substitution of vegan Tofutti sour cream and vegan Daiya cheese. They do two different types of tofu: a crispy/fried and a grilled, both of which are vegan. For salads they offer a vegan ranch dressing. (Although that is the only vegan salad dressing aside from oil and vinegar, so be careful!) On their website you can find an awesome, detailed allergen menu which denotes all the items that contain dairy or eggs (as well as gluten, peanut, and soy). The allergen menu also outlines what substitutions can be made to remove dairy. They have a great kids menu too, which offers vegan/vegetarian options. They are super transparent with their ingredients and almost everything is made on-site from scratch, so they know exactly what is in the food if you ask them.
Read moreMy take: Mad Mex is an amazing option for vegans in Erie. It's one of the only places where you can actually get something with cheese on it (vegan cheese, of course!). The crispy tofu appetizer is my favorite. It's SO tasty. I've had this with non-veg folks, and everyone that I've tried it with has loved it, sometimes even more than whatever they were eating. The seating arrangements are kind of strange. If it's busy, you can sometimes get seated at a tiny table that's super close to strangers. Request a booth ahead of time, if you don't want to get stuck in one of those weird spots. They also have outdoor seating, and it's pretty nice (especially considering the view is the Millcreek mall parking lot). Lots of plants and a fire pit.
Definitely check Mad Mex out. It's a huge upgrade to the vegan food scene in Erie.
Pros: Amazing food, Extensive menu with many options, Outdoor seating
