A flight of narrow stairs brings you into a nicely decorated and airy restaurant inside the Lunar Hotel building. Wooden flooring and furniture with views of the mountains. Serves North and South Indian, and Chinese food. The masala dosas, fried rice and tandoori items are popular and economical. Open Mon-Sun 8:00am-9:30pm.

Delicious food and too much to choose - Edit
We ate some momo's and a palak panir with pulao. And off course a mango lassi. All was very tasty... It's more expensive then other restaurants but very clean and nice staff.

Decent clean restaurant - Edit
I ate here a couple of times. A little expensive by local standards but food is good and restaurant appears clean. Plus high enough turn over to trust the food. Helpful staff.

Extensive menu - Edit
I ate here several times in early Dec 2017. They did not know what vegan food is and i gave up trying to explain. The menu in English is extensive and includes basic lists of ingredients but i double checked by specifying no butter, no ghee, no egg, etc. And i enjoyed some great food. The place was virtually empty at lunch and dinner when i visited and you can get a nice view of snow-capped Kangchenjunga if you choose a seat in the right corner. The staff are friendly and attentive. Considering that this is a comparatively "upmarket" place it is not any more expensive than the "downmarket" places also in the centre of town.

Darjeeling breakfasts - one of my favorite places. - Edit
Lunar Hotel is tiny but quite wonderful. Lunar Vegetarian Restaurant is located right at hotel reception. It is very popular. If you don't book your table; you can expect to wait at lunch time & maybe be turned away in the evenings.
Read moreVery good North and South Indian vegetarian dishes - plus they dabble in 'Indian-Chinese'.
Many options for vegans - especially in the South Indian section of the menu.
Ideal for breakfast as they open very early.
Excellent views of Kanchenjunga & surrounding mountains - if you are lucky & get the window table.
Very clean kitchen - which you can look into.
NOT a budget place - but very good value in my opinion.
Not yet 'discovered' by too many non-Indians
I often meet old friends from Kolkata there - the owners themselves are from Kolkata.
Well maintained bathroms.
No lift - the steep stairs up to the 2nd floor mean that access is tricky if you are elderly or physically challenged in any way.
