Incredible customer service - Edit
Right when you walk in your senses are sparked with the fragrance of herbs and spices. Everything is incredibly flavorful and portions are robust - We ordered way too much in an eager attempt to try different things and had plenty of leftovers. What shined above their incredible food was how kind, cheerful, and pleasant the staff are. You can't help but want this family-owned business to thrive and succeed.

Incredible food, Outstanding service - Edit
My first time here and not the last. I tried the medium sample platter and it was full of delicious whole foods and flavor. The staff was incredibly friendly. It’s a little out of the way for me but I will be back when I’m in the area again. 5 stars all the way!

Family owned restaurant that makes you feel like family - Edit
Wonderful made from scratch traditional Ethiopian food that is completely vegan. It is owned and operated by a single family. My son loves their French fries and my wife and I love the variety of the chef’s choice platters.

Awesome Ethipoian in Minneapolis - Edit
Lulu EthioVegan is an unassuming quaint restaurant in the best way. Once you’ve found this little Ethiopian treat of an establishment, you’ll be blown away by the wide variety of options that all satiate the plant-based lover’s dream.
Read moreJust looking over the menu gets a vegan’s mouth watering. There are a wide variety of choices even beyond the traditional injera sauce staple of Ethiopian food (but that isn’t to say that isn’t still a great option).
I tried the Ater kik and Suff to drink. The Ater kik had a savory ginger taste that was easy to digest with the injera bread that it came with to scoop up. The suff is a drink made from sunflower seeds that had an obvious nutty and slightly bitter taste. Normally, I wouldn’t go for a milk-like drink with a meal like this, but I wanted to try a more traditional drink that I hadn’t had before. And I am glad I did.
When I travel back to Minneapolis I will make sure to check out Lulu’s again and try another delicious meal. I highly recommend Lulu’s if you’re a local, or someone like me passing through. You will not be disappointed.
Pros: All vegan, Delicious food

Good for samplers - Edit
I like how you can order a sampler of several items. It's great for trying multiple flavors when you aren't sure which one you'll like the most. The injera bread is a unique treat you won't find outside of Ethiopian. I tried the sambusa wedges. It had a blend of herbs and spices that seemed unique. to me, although I am fairly new to Ethiopian food, so I can't say how unique it would be if you've sampled many Ethiopian restaurants.

Yummy Food, Lovely Owners - Edit
Visiting friends in Minneapolis, it was my spouse's birthday and he got to choose where we'd eat. Easy decision when there was a vegan Ethiopian restaurant. The food was delicious, clean and yummy. The owner and her daughter were there, both incredibly welcoming. They even threw in a birthday cupcake for free. Will definitely return the next time we are in town. (FYI - no alcohol).

Could be better - Edit
The food took about 30 minutes to be served to us at room temperature. This is not uncommon; just not my preference. Our injera was very cold. They forgot the side salad that comes with the meal and I asked for right when we received our food and never got it. When we went up to pay, I asked for it to go and they packaged up about 5 pieces of lettuce and a few tomatoes slices. (Refer to photo) It was kind of a joke.
Read moreI love supporting vegan restaurants, but personally wouldn’t come back. (Maybe for the vegan baklava) The food was just like any other Ethiopian restaurant…dare I say not as good.
Pros: Good baklava

Fabulous First Exposure to Ethiopian - Edit
This small, bright space is clean and comfortable. My friend and I were welcomed warmly by the owner, who made recommendations and answered our many questions.
Read moreWe chose the sambusas for an appetizer and the medium veggie sampler to share.
Everything was delicious! So flavorful! Very “healthy” portions! Reasonably priced.
My friend loves coffee and ordered a cup to follow up lunch. It was made and served by the owner with a special pot and cups and even incense. He educated us about Ethiopian coffee, including that his wife roasts the beans herself in-house and how Starbucks uses 25% Ethiopian beans in their blend.
The restaurant was pleasant, the service wonderful, and the food a delight!
Pros: Clean space, Friendly, attentive service, Delicious food
Cons: Maybe a tiny bit loud when the restaurant was full

A great experience - Edit
A small family run restaurant that opened in late 2023. Very welcoming and the server took time to explain some of the menu items. The owner/chef took time to chat with us about her story of going vegan and what motivated her to open her own vegan Ethiopian restaurant. The food was of excellent quality and quantity was right too. The sampler is a great way to experience a variety of 6 (out of 7 total) dishes. The chef makes an optional gluten free injera as well, for those who need it.
Read moreAside from being a vegan Ethiopian restaurant, another unique feature here is the coffee. The beans are sourced from Ethiopia and roasted in small batches every morning. They serve it in a traditional way with incense, which is optional, of course, but we enjoyed it.

The food is good. It tastes exactly like the food at every other Ethiopian restaurant in town (which also almost all offer a half-vegan or more menu). The quality is the same as every other place. It just costs twice as much.

We got the large veggie sampler, which came with the chef’s selection of 6 different veggie dishes. We liked the beets and yellow lentils the best out of the dishes we got. The others were not as flavorful as what we’re used to getting at Ethiopian restaurants.

I would drive the 6+ hours to Minneapolis just to eat here again - Edit
I’m not exaggerating when I say this was one of the best meals I’ve ever had.
Read moreMy partner and I visited Minneapolis for the weekend from Chicago, and we wanted something to eat that was nutritious and not deep fried. Neither of us has ever had Ethiopian cuisine before and oh my god THE FLAVORS, THE TEXTURES, THE AROMAS are unmatched. I can’t stop thinking about it.
We ordered the Sambusa, Ful, and the medium Veggie Sampler (and a Baklava to go). I’m so glad we ordered all these things because we got to try so much and I wouldn’t have known what to order otherwise. The injera was unlike anything I’ve ever eaten before. Each dish had a unique flavor and tasted delicious together with the injera and on their own.
Oh, and the baklava was the most surprising desert ever. The mouthfeel was unmatched. The perfect sweetness.
Ya’ll, this food has me googling Ethiopian recipes because way too much of my life has passed by without this incredible cuisine.
The food was way too much for the two of us for one meal, so we got a to-go box. I was craving it when I woke up the next day, so I had them for breakfast. They reheated nicely.
The food was reasonably priced, the food came out quickly, the staff was friendly.

We stopped here with friends after finding this place on Happy Cow. I think this is my first time having Ethiopian food, I liked it! I'm not a big spice person so I was glad that the sampler has many items that weren't spicy. It was great to try so much on the menu!

Service was excellent, the ambiance was bright. The food is the Ethiopian I am used to and it is all vegan. It is wonderful to finally have a vegan place that has lots of legumes, whole grains (i.e. teff), and veggies, and not as much oil or processed foods. And the flavors are interesting!
