It was on

Could be better. Only one of the banana blossom fish was wrapped in seaweed, the rest didn't really taste of anything. Nice venue and friendly staff

Attractive pub with good food

Attractive, accessible pub with garden opposite Penshurst station.

Curiously, no vegan starters are shown. Vegan main courses include nut roast with roast potatoes, vegetables and gravy, 'Mac n cheese', 'fish' (jackfruit) and chips, sausage and mash, Greek salad. I had the nut roast, which was really nice. Only one dessert is marked as vegan, though the allergen info suggested that the sorbets were vegan also. I had a chocolate espresso mousse, which was also very nice.

Staff are cheerful, friendly and helpful.

All in all, a good find.

Pros: Good food, Nice setting, Good service

Cons: No vegan starters, Limited vegan dessert range

Really good roast!

Popped in for a sunday roast—nut roast, veggies, potatoes and gravy. Was delicious but would’ve loved some sausages or a Yorkshire pudding, and there were only three roast potatoes!

Apple crumble for desert was delicious too.

Cons: More vegan options would be good

Friendly staff and tasty food

Lots of vegan starters and two vegan main options. Both mains were super tasty and portion sizes were very generous! Had to ask which options were vegan as only vegetarian were marked ‘V’, however staff were incredibly helpful and ticked which were suitable. Beautiful pub and would visit again.

Imaginative and delicious vegan food in a beautiful countryside pub.

I’ve tried the vegan fish and chips and the deluxe vegan burger. Both meals were delicious! The jackfruit spring rolls were also very tasty. I’d like to see some vegan dessert options on the regular menu. There are vegan desserts on the Christmas menu so maybe you just have to ask. I’ve always been too full up for desert so far anyway. Beautiful countryside setting and friendly staff!

Pros: Imaginative vegan options , Beautiful country pub , Delicious food

Nice options but definitely needs to improve vegan knowledge!

This was the first restaurant I found to eat at using Happy Cow so it should be my first one to be reviewed too! I was drawn to coming here by their intriguing vegan options, especially the banana blossom ‘fish’ and chips. It also had a very wide selection of lovely looking food for my omni wife to choose from too.
The pub itself if large but homely with beautiful decor. We were attended to promptly and our food didn’t take too long to arrive once ordered.
I ordered a diet coke and the banana blossom ‘fish’ and chips. When my plate arrived I was taken aback by the fact that the vegan tartare sauce was served in an oyster shell. I hoped it has been thoroughly cleaned but either way it’s not very sensitive to a vegan mindset. The food itself was delightful though, the batter was crazy good and my first time tasting banana blossom made me very impressed! I finished the whole plate of food and was very full!
When the bill came, to my shock I saw that we’d been billed for diet pepsi (a notoriously NON VEGAN DRINK) rather than diet cokes. The restaurant did not tell us they had this on tap as opposed to coke so without my knowledge or consent they served me a non vegan drink. I was quite upset and just wanted to get out of there so didn’t inform them what happened, although I probably should have. I think both that and the whole serving sauce in an oyster shell shows that some places are keen to attempt to cater for vegans (for inclusivity or profit) but need to ensure they understand every aspect that goes into this.
So i definitely recommend their banana blossom ‘fish’ but be careful was drinks you order there.

Pros: Variety of interesting vegan options, Beautiful setting and restaurant , Great place to go with omni friends and family

Cons: Need to improve their vegan knowledge , Did not say they had non vegan diet pepsi on tap

Incredible

My partner and I decided to take a trip from London through Kent on our motorbike today and after checking out Happy Cow we decided to venture here. We weren’t disappointed! Vegan fish and chips was the best one either of us have tried and the nut roast was delicious. Service was very friendly and we weren’t made to feel any different for ordering vegan.
The price was approximately £12 a meal and the portion was very good. We left feeling full.
I fell in love with the decor and the garden. We will absolutely return when next in the area

Pros: Delicious food, Friendly service, Indoor and outdoor seating

Cons: only 2 vegan meal options -still good ones

Nice to go to pub and feel included

We were up Kent way and wanted somewhere nearby for a nice meal and happened across the Little Brown Jug, drawn in by the Vegan fish and chips option. It is really nice to be in a foodie pub environment and feel included. We heard people on the tables around commenting on the vegan fish and chips so it is an attention grabber for sure. It was indeed tasty (a banana blossom version) but don't discount the other options available either. We both had a starter of Jackfruit spring rolls with satay sauce and Japanese salad. Really tasty and we appreciate the efforts they are making with their vegan options. As they have won awards for their standard fish and chips, it is a great advert for veganism that they include a vegan version too and it will hopefully encourage those who might not have considered trying it to try it.

Pros: A separate section on the menu, Nice ambience

Cons: Not cheap pricing but not really a negative
