Not for traveling people - Edit
It's more of a restaurant / bulk buying shop for locals! But has many unique things I'd love to try if I had a kitchen here haha

Small but mighty - Edit
Lily's Vegan Pantry is small but completely vegan. Has a great selection of frozen prepared dim sum from my favorite vegan dim sum restaurant Bodhi Kosher Vegetarian! There is a minimum credit card purchase amount so bring cash if you aren't planning to spend more than $10.

Nice Vegan Store in Chinatown NYC - Edit
The people who work at Lily's are so sweet! There is a 10% discount on Friday nights. You can buy a lot of Chinese food (like frozen dumplings) and mock meats. There is also a small selection of other types of vegan food like popcorn and fake cheesecake.

Mock meats--they likely supply your favorite restaurant --and other interesting vegan food products. Membership for a 10% discount is well worth it if you live here

Big selection but expensive and not terribly healthy - Edit
I was shopping at May Wah/Lily's for many years but stopped going there a couple of years ago. I agree with many of the reviews that while some of the food is tasty, some of the items are not very good at all, and most of it is not terribly healthy (oily, high in fat, high in sodium), so perhaps good for an every-now-and-then treat when you find the items you do like. I find it expensive but joined their club to save some money. I stopped going a couple of years ago when a subway I was taking to Lily's broke down for awhile and when I arrived I had to use the restroom (I know they have one - I've used it in the past during long shopping trips). I was forbidden from using it and had to make a mad dash out onto the street to find a hotel with a restroom. I never bothered to return. Customer service!

Great Vegan Market - Edit
It's so wonderful to see an entirely vegan grocery store here in the city and wish there was one near where I lived. This Taiwanese based market offers a variety of vegan products including a lot of vegan meats that are great if you are looking to adopt a more plant-based lifestyle or are looking for options to entertain a vegan guest.
Read moreThe shop has a lot of dry and frozen goods in nicely organized aisles. We were the only shoppers in the morning we went, so it was easy to peruse the selection.
I would love it if they had some kind of deli or prepared foods section. I would immediately buy up some baked treats or pre-made cold/hot foods to take home if they offered this kind of section.

Fav place in chinatown - Edit
Ok I love this place so much they are so amazing and there are so many great options. I love the 4 for $10 jerky deals. Also they have so many vegan meats you can’t get elsewhere! And they are so nice, when I buy a lot of stuff they usually throw in one or two more for free!!! Go go go! I need to buy a membership here as well

Lilys - Edit
This place was a waste of my time due to their credit card minimum. I was limited in what I could buy since I was staying at a hotel and couldn’t refrigerate things. The items I wanted to purchase were under the minimum and I didn’t have cash. It’s a shame because I took a cab that cost $30 to go to this place. 😡

Lot's of chinese vegan food - Edit
There is lot's of chinese vegetarian food here at a reasonable price. But a check of the ingrediants will show that most of the food is laden with chemicals and not particularly healthy.

Great Shop - Edit
I've been shopping at May Wah for years. This is a great shop and they have been working towards almost all of their products being vegan. I can't say I like everything I've ever bought here, but that's just a matter of taste preference. I have my go to items I get here, like the cabbage buns and the faux shrimp. Great prices also.

Carnivores Will be Duped - Edit
For a small market this place packs a big punch. For the reviewers who deducted stars because there was one or two things they didn't like, or because the mock meats were not healthy enough for them, there is no way they tried the over 60 types of vegan meats they sell and meat substitutes are NOT a health food...they are designed to imitate something that is not healthy, and their products do just that.
Read moreHighlights include citrus spare ribs in the frozen section (meat eaters and vegans alike will absolutely swoon over this), as well as "fish ham," which is wrapped in seaweed and looks like a huge sushi roll and tastes incredible. Another highlight is the beef jerky, which my meat-eating friends love so much, they are considering becoming vegan just based off of this one product. Their frozen bacon is also ace.
I've been shopping here for 2 years and recommend it to anyone who wants to cook awesome vegan meals, especially for meat eaters.
Pros: tons of options, inexpensive , great location
Cons: none

May Wah where fake meat dream are made - Edit
The review below that says that May Wah is "the source" of faux meats is not lying.... this is seriously where a great majority of faux meat products from vegan restaurants come from. I know because my husband and I like to try to recreate dishes we love, and a friend of ours that works at a vegan Asian restaurant gave us the down-low... "go to Chinatown" she said ;) .
Read moreSo we did and were amazed. Yes, the store is tiny (this is NYC remember) but good god do they pack that place full of goodness. The employees are also very sweet and informative... they let you browse without breathing down your neck, but are always around to answer questions.
I try not to eat a lot of faux meats, but when I do May Wah is where I go. FYI, I believe that like 98% of the products are vegan, but be careful, some items (I think) are vegetarian. Just double check the ingredients.
