Short menu, wonderful vegan options - Edit
We weren't expecting very much but were very happy we came here for lunch. We overlooked that not everything is vegan but we realized shortly after ordering and they were happy to explain what was vegan and change our order.
Read moreWe had a soup du jour (root vegetables with parsley), a riz mafé (stew with tomato and peanut sauce, with rice ) and a plat du jour (daikon steak, smashed potatoes, braised cabbage salad with coriander, pickles).
For me the plat du jour was the star but the riz mafé was very tasty too, and my partner enjoyed the soup.
Would definitely like to come back.

Frais et délicieux - Edit
Nous avons pris le plat du jour à 14,50 eur. Une assiette composée de riz et de légumes. C'était vraiment délicieux et bien frais. Une impression de bien manger, d'avoir de la nourriture saine.

Small place in a busy area of town - Edit
Small place in a busy area. Offers daily dishes in different price categories. Soups could be spiced better while the curry was well spiced.
Read moreService itself could be a bit more customer oriented but then again you are in a very touristy area where nobody cares really anyways, no matter where you travel to... Bread for the soup came with butter, which was served in a single use plastic container. An actual shock to see that in a vegan-vegetarian restaurant.
Pros: Dishes for every price level, Wild playlist , Record store across the street
Cons: Butter in single use plastic, Not the friendliest service

So so - Edit
I was excited to find a vegetarian canteen closed to the Jeu de Balle, unfortunately I was disappointed. I got the dish of the day (some röstis and vegetables, for 14,50€). The meal was good, but it lacked a protein source (none of the dishes had one). All my friends and me felt hungry and we had to go get something else afterward.

Correct - Edit

Small unbalanced meal, unfriendly - Edit
We know this place from long time ago, when the atmosphere was cosy, warm and friendly. Now, upon arriving, we immediately felt that the waitress was not so friendly and unfortunately our feeling was right: she put our drinks on the table without saying anything. The same happened when the cutlery, and later when our meals came: no words spoken at all... So this is her standard way of serving. Or was this our punishment because we just asked if she spoke Dutch? ... which is normal to ask in Brussels, and especially since this place has a dutch name since tens of years.
Read moreWe both had the dish of the day: warm and cold vegetables with rice. The portion was small and did not have any protein source. The lettuce occupied a too big portion of the plate. As a result, this meal was not filling, and we felt hungry soon thereafter.
The waitress removed our empty plates and asked if we wanted anything else, while my partner was still drinking his beer, so not sensitive of 'where we were' in our lunch.
The music did not always suit the place, and the waitress was clearly very busy picking songs that she likes most. It didn't help that she sang along now and then.
We loved this place years ago, it was a bit of a monument in the Marollen with a friendly elder lady, but it changed owners and it's not the same anymore.
What a pity!

harrassed by waitresses - Edit
i was waiting for 1 hour for my food (never arrived) when i complained to the waitresses, they started screaming at me, telling me that if I wasn't happy i had to leave. I thought maybe they were going to hit me, honestly

Hmm - Edit
I ordered the dish of the day which turned out to be just a tiny amount of salad and vegetables with a lentil patty. It tasted not bad but was very overpriced for what it was.
Read moreThe staff felt pushy and unfriendly, my request for a glass of tapwater was refused with the comment „we sell water here“.
Of course food should have an appropriate price and the restaurants need to be able to survive but you just don‘t do that.
Pros: Vegetarian & vegan dishes
Cons: Overpriced, No tapwater , Dish too small

Not great but ok if you’re out of options - Edit
We had the dish of today which was the only thing that was vegan except for the soup. It was ok but very basic and overpriced. Small portion (half of it was a simple salad). Service wasn’t great.

Cozy and delicious - Edit
I took one of my omnivore friends here and they were not disappointed. Frankly, neither was I - the atmosphere of the restaurant is cozy and warm and lively with people (during the busy hours), yet not too packed. The deserts were by far the best part of the meal so make sure to save room.

I had the coco curry and apple crumble! They were both really tasty and filling! The curry only cost €6.50 and was the size of a proper meal! We sat on the terrace as the weather was beautiful and the service was friendly and quick!

One of my favourite places in Brussels - Edit
I'm a big fan of la Rue Haute so of course I love this place.
Read moreThey have nice organic beers and vegan food and this for decent prices.
Also, I never had any problem to get a decent vegan meal, at worst one of the items is ovo lacto, but in this case they just replace it by something else ("could I just get more aubergines then pleaaaase?"). So they definitely seem to pay closer attention to vegan needs now - compared to last year's comments

Vegan disappointment - Edit
This place is very nice, in a great location in the Marolles and with friendly staff - unfortunately not the place for vegans!
Read moreIf seems that you're as lucky to find food here as in any other random restaurant around..
They only have one dish/day on the menu - which might be vegan but most of the times contains eggs and/or dairy.
I went there for lunch and they offered some sort of improvised vegan dish as most of the elements in the lunch menu were not vegan.
Finally they gave me a small soup, a small salad (marinated carrot and cabbage) and a ball of white rice (overcooked and plain basmati).
The problem was not only that it was not a proper meal, but also that the flavours were not there - everything was quite tasteless which made me disappointed.
They were nice and tried to offer something but honestly for what they charged (8.5 EUR) I would have been better off going to the supermarket next door and buying some hummus.
Please make sure they give you a proper meal in case they're improvising with what they are serving that day.

Fully vegetarian, hit and miss for vegans - Edit
I hoped to eat lunch here, but the very friendly lady behind the counter informed me that only one soup and main are available each day (fair enough for a co-op!) but that on most days dairy products are used. It really looks like a lovely place to eat, with a great atmosphere, but I'd advise vegans to have a back-up plan in case the meal isn't suitable on that particular day.

Hot water - Edit
L'eau Chaude/Het warm water is a co-op, a little place in the heart of a traditional Brussels neighborhood called Les Marolles.
Read moreThey serve food from Thursday to Sunday: no menu but a changing dish of the day and soup on Thursday and Friday. Saturday, they make breakfast and Sunday brunch.
I had the brunch (8€ for a small plate, 12€ for the big one), it was simple yet good food: pita bread, hummus, seitan with mushroom, mashed vegetables, gazpacho and a almond pastry. It's cheap and the small plate was enough for me!
A big plus is their selection of drinks and especially their beers: artisan beers from small Belgian breweries! Excellent selection!
I liked the spirit of the place that perfectly fits the neighborhood. I will definitively go back!
Pros: Unexpensive, Cool atmosphere and neigborhood, Simple yet good food
Cons: Not many choices
