Our favourite place in Ghent

We visit this restaurant every time we visit Ghent. Their dishes are great, with a lot of nice veggies, sauces and toppings.
As a biologist, I love their botanical pictures on the wall close to the toilet. The atmosphere of the place is great, and usually there's plenty of space to sit.

Pros: Great food, Great atmosphere

Good

The space is really nice and the waiters were very polite with us. I thought it was a bit expensive, the plate is not that big for what you pay for. My sister had the coconut curry (Tibetan Mama) and she liked it, I went for the noodles soup (Magic Miso Soup) but they put waaaay too much ginger in it. And I really like ginger but the it was so strong and spicy that my mouth was literally on fire, couldn't feel anything

Pros: Cosy space, Nice waiters, Interesting menu

Cons: Expensive, Small plates

Mediocre

Lovely building but the food is only mediocre. Not really a must, especially with so many other lovely vegan options in Ghent

Best place in Ghent

I loved loved loved it here!
I had their curry which was perfectly balanced between salty, flavourful, sour and fresh. I loved it!
My friend had sushi and she loved it also.
The staff was super friendly and the food was ready in less than 5min.
The interior is amazing!

Pros: Super delicious, Friendly staff, Great interior

Cons: On the pricey side

Could be better

Meeh, lower your expectations. Been there after finding them via HappyCow but
Ratings are too positive.

Pros: Vegan options, Nice location

Cons: Unfriendly staff, Noisy and smelly when you have a seat in the back, Closing at 21:00

Great Little Vegan Restaurant

I liked this quaint vegan plant based restuarant in the heart of Gent.

Staff friendly and food quick.

Bowels of various vegan dishes.

Recommended.

Nice dinner

Nice homely vegan restaurant in the heart of Gent. Main dishes served in bowls. Theme is vegan food as medicine and staff walked around in white coats: “let food be the medicine.” Meals were nice but not great.

Fantastisch concept!

Tasty bowl but a little expensive

The bowls i have had are all very tasty (miso soup, tajine and chili) and they're all 100% plant-based. The portions are not so big so at 10-12 € per bowl it's a little on the expensive side. Homemade lemonade was not very good.

Pros: Good variety, delicious

Cons: small-ish portions

On the expensive side

Nice food, served in a nice environment. But portions are rather small and on the expensive side. Was still hungry at the end...

Pros: Healthy food

Cons: Expensive

Create your own dish

You can order a dish straight from the menu, or you can create your own dish according to given options. The food is very good.
The staff is friendly. The seating options ... can be better; you're often at a table with strangers.

Great Find

Extremely cozy establishment with an interior design and concept of an old apothecary with their foods as medicine. Centrally located in a quiet street with outdoor seating or beautiful inside seating with an atrium as well.
Also has a very nice selection of natural wines.

Pros: Friendly service, Moderately priced for the city

Delicious & not expensive 🤩

Went there for dinner with a non vegan friend. She loved it so that says alot 😁
I wanted the Chili Sin Carne but I wanted to change the rice by quinoa (kcal issues, bodybuilding life 🤪) and they didn’t make any problem at all 🙌🏼
Cool concept, great food, not all expensive, great staff

Love their food!

I have eaten here three times now and I just love their food! The flavours are really good and the staff is nice and helpfull. I also ordered on Deliveroo once, and let me just say that the brownie is DELICIOUS! But every single dish I tried here was good. I'm moving out of Ghent now, but I am seriously going to miss this place, it was a great find. Even for my younger nephews and aunt, who are all not vegan. Yes, it surely was my favourite place here :)

nice atmosphere and interesting

The style of the place was interesting and all of the menu options sounded good. I had the Jeff bowl which came with potatoes and much room stew and some nice salad on top. Quite expensive though at €11 each

Nice service, cozy place, bad tasting food

I only went here for a quick dinner and choose one of the noodles with tofu. They gave me a bowl that seamed like a soup, tons of water very few ingredients. So little noodles I wonder if they put any, one just one little broccoli, several pieces of tofu, that was the only thing I enjoyed. The taste was terrible, the water tasted very badly. Left most of it. Almost 11 euro for a bad soup. Maybe I chose the wrong option. But not going back for a second try.. And they don't accept cash, kinda bad if your bank overcharge if you pay overseas.

Pros: Nice staff, nice environment

Cons: Bad tasting food, few ingredients, expensive

Slightly bland

Our experience here was mixed, as the food sounded so enticing on the menu but ending up quite bland and underseasoned. The theme of the restaurant (like an apothecary) is nice though, and the seating in the back is very cozy

Happy I went!

The menu at this place was so interesting it took me a little while to pick something. In the end, I had their take on a spicy chili, which was quite decent. If I returned to Ghent, I'd go back here.

Pros: Nice atmosphere

Why did I wait so long?

Friendly, well decorated, and of course good food. The dishes were inspired by different cultures, although I suspect adapted to the Belgian palate. I found the prices reasonable.

This place is beautiful and memorable: go and pick your bowl!

Le Botaniste has that kind of design and attention to details which are rare in veggie establishments: usually, being veggie is the main attraction for a restaurant and while decor is often pleasant, there is no need to compete with other establishments on small details. Le Botaniste, instead, has put craft and attention to many more aspects than any veggie restaurant I have ever been to, and it is worth even just purely for the visual feast it provides. There are three rooms, all with very different atmospheres. Sitting in the entrance apothecary space is what I would recommend to take this place in. The menu is compact and 'clean' (for those who like this word): there are no processed ingredients and the mains are all mostly bowl. I order the one with curry and it felt like my dish was built on various layers of flavour and textures. Simple, but very lovely and enjoyable. Prices feel fair for the ambiance and location too, so definitely pass by for lunch when you are in Gent: your belly and eys (and your Instagram feed if you are into that kind of thing) won't be disappointed!

Pros: Fantastic decor, Attention to details in every corner of the space, Honest, 'clean' food

Cons: A dream if it were cheaper, but prices are fair
