Pleasant place for a vegan lunch.

The service at Layang Layang was very attentive but there was a language barrier with some of the waiters. However, they were quick to recruit a good English-speaker. There is a full page Vegan Menu plus many of the meat-oriented menu items that are marked with a green leaf could also be made with tofu. We had Sarang Veggie, and Veggie Sizzling Beef. The Sarang Veggie was an assortment of mushrooms and vegetables in a light white sauce served in a formed and fried taro root bowl. The Veggie Sizzling Beef was a mixture of veggie 'beef', onion and green and red bell peppers with a very nice deep-flavored black pepper sauce served on a sizzling platter. We wanted to have the Pulut Hitnam - black sticky rice in coconut milk - for dessert, but they ran out just before we ordered. I had hoped for more uniquely flavored Malaysian dishes but what they do serve is very good. There is loads of free parking.

Pros: Service , Easy to find and lots of free parking , Tasty food

Cons: Sometimes runs out of certain menu items

Pretty Good, Lots of Items on Vegetarian Menu

I expect I might go here a little more often now that I live closer, but from what I remember of the last time I visited, it is a pretty good little Malaysian restaurant and they do conveniently have a vegetarian section of their menu.

On our last visit I got the Sarang Veggie and my omnivore husband liked the pineapple fried rice (there's a vegetarian version with egg, and I think he got that last time and liked it). I'm not sure about the Princess Tofu being on the vegetarian menu, since I was told last time I was there that the "tofu" itself is made with fish (unless maybe it's a new vegetarian item, I saw it as I had to look up the name of the Sarang Veggie dish as I was writing this because I always forget what it's called, it's just "that taro nest thing" in my brain), so I guess ask about that. I'll definitely have to ask next time I'm in, because my (omnivore) friend who had recommended this place originally to me loves it.

The place itself is a cozy, quiet little restaurant with charming Malaysian decor items, if slightly dimly lit (mood lighting, maybe), and I think it mostly gets overlooked for not being as flashy as other restaurants in the plaza it's in, but it's conveniently right by a Teaspoon if, like me, you are addicted to boba tea.

Pros: Vegetarian Section of Menu w/Many Choices

Cons: Vegetarian Might Mean Pescatarian There?
