Rice and beans are not vegan - Edit
I ordered the vegetable enchiladas with the green sauce. They were nice and hot. Fast service. I noticed bacon in the beans so I asked. The waitress said the beans have bacon and the refried beans have lard. Also the rice has chicken bullion. They gave me a salad instead and let me know the flour tortillas use vegetable shortening.

It was good - Edit
I confirmed the the charro beans are vegan as well as the rice. However the refried beans are not vegan (made with lard). I tried the veggie enchiladas with salsa verde and was pleasantly surprised. Omit the cheese and add guac and you have yourself a fully vegan dish 😋

Finally a Mexican restaurant with multiple vegan items! - Edit
I cannot say better things about this place! Accidentally discovered it a few weeks back and didn't think I'd have many options to eat being a vegan. I was 100% wrong!! They have accidentally vegan items and numerous more that can be adjusted to be vegan!! We've been back a couple times and it's been great. The service especially is great here! I just found out that Las Palapas is run by the same family as Ruthie's Mexican Restaurant, literally our favorite Mexican place in SA and well that makes sense! That's why Las Palapas is so awesome! I had the stuffed avocado and the vegetable enchiladas with Verde sauce. Chips and salsa too! All vegan! Just remember to ask them to leave out the cheese and to leave off the crema sauce! 🙂
Read moreEDIT: July 2023: I visited another Las Palapas location and was politely advised by our waiter that I needed to swap the rice and beans that comes with the Vegetable Enchilada plate with sauteed vegetables because the rice and beans both have meat in them and are not vegan!! I am mortified no one ever mentioned this to me at this location but I digress.
Please add vegan protein options like tofu/tempeh/seitan and some dairy free cheeses, sauces and milks for the coffee.

Pros: Some plant based options, Open 24/7 nearly everyday
Cons: Need more vegan options

ChristinaSalazar, lady time I was in, they still had pork in their beans (Charro) and Manteca (lard) in the other beans and they use chicken broth in rice. It may have changed, so I hope you or someone else will confirm because Las Palapas is all over SA!

@staceybeasley Yes, thank you! We just visited another Las Palapas here and the waiter actually came out and asked me if I was vegan. I said yes, I was, and so he told me that on the vegetable enchilada plate I was ordering I needed to swap out the beans and rice for sauteed vegetables on the side because both the rice and beans had meat in them! 🤦♀️ So angry the location we regularly visit never mentioned this! But yes the rest of the plate is apparently fine, you just have to ask for veggies instead of rice and beans.

That's so disappointing. I've recently moved to SA and was wondering about this place as one is on every block. Refried beans are one of my favorites but most places make them with lard. So this is good to know. Thanks so much 😊
