Amazing food! Make reservation - Edit
I cannot recommend this restaurant enough! So delicious. I ordered the flatbread starter with potato and leek filling. I ordered buranee bademjan (eggplant dish) and lubya (kidney bean dish). I'm glad I didn't only order the kidney beans, though, because that would have been too many beans. The flavors all complimented eachother wonderfully. Reservation recommended.

Delicious, great atmosphere - Edit
I had an eggplant dish (minus the sour cream) and it was some of the best eggplant I’ve ever had.
Read moreIt’s pricey, need to order multiple things. But DC food overall is expensive. Reservation is a must.

Warm and not overly filling - Edit
This is true comfort food. We got a dish with pumpkin, another with carrots, the veggie dumplings and flatbread stuffed with pumpkin, potato and onions. All of the food was so well seasoned and so delicious. It was the perfect amount for a lovely dinner. The staff was super helpful and kind.

Warm, inviting, delicious - Edit
Honestly can’t believe that this place has a one star review. Went here for a special occasion and the experience was pretty flawless. The environment was really warm and friendly and the space is quite intimate. Lapis has been a Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand restaurant for 3 years in a row, and it is easy to understand why when you’re there. The food was great and our waitress was extremely knowledgeable about what could be made vegan (which was a HUGE number of things). Highly recommend the appetizer sampler—lots to try and good bang for your buck. Cocktail was tasty, but would probably skip it in the future based on the small size for the price. Everything else was very reasonably priced and more generous portion-wise than our server initially led us to believe, which was a good surprise. You would be hard-pressed to find plates of tapas in DC for $8, so good-sized bowls of spiced cauliflower, lentils, and veggies at that price point makes this place worth a visit.

Tasty but expensive - Edit
We had two starters, a main and rice. Drank water. It ended up costing about $60. We requested chutney instead of yogurt based sauce and while they didn’t get it right, they did quickly fix the mistake.

Delicious Mother's Day Dinner - Edit
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Lapis. Two of us split the vegan tasting menu for two which was delicious and plenty of food. It included 1 appetizer, four small entree choices and one dessert. This isn't listed on the website but is in the back of the menu. I believe it was about $50 for two.

Upscale Afghan Food w/ Clearly Marked Veg Items - Edit
I've been here twice and enjoyed it both times. Nice atmosphere (cozy and candlelit) and good food. Be sure to get a reservation ahead of time if you're trying to go on a weekend. They have clearly marked veg options (listed as vegetarian, with "most" vegan and all "can be made vegan", so they are knowledgeable about ingredients and what to omit) and a vegan tasting menu. Try the Bolani for a starter. The restaurant can feel a little cramped but overall it's a good place for an intimate dinner.

so many levels of NO! - Edit
We waited for upwards of an hour even though we called ahead to make a reservation and they said we wouldn't need one. The food took forever to arrive and the portions were tiny and not that good. On top of that it was extremely noisy and smelled like disinfectant and the staff was rude except for one waiter who was slammed and trying his best.
