Average Restaurant - Edit
Having read a lot of these reviews I expected a lot. Staff were blunt and not hugely accommodating. Food was ok but too salty and also cold. Genuinely feel like this is a Jekyll and Hyde place, either great or very average.

Really bad Italian kitchen - Edit
I came to the restaurant because they have typical italian kitchen. The stuff is really friendly. First we get bread which tasted like stale bread. The zucchini Flowers stuffed with Cicerchie Mousse with rocket pesto was disappointing. The pesto was so bitter that it was inedible. The Carbonara was the worst I have ever eaten and the Basil Gnocchi were undercooked.

Very tasty vegan food - Edit
We had a very good dinner in La Lanterna. One of our antipasti dishes was not seasoned enough, and unfortunately, the zucchini was undercooked. Additionally, the portion was a bit small in relation to the price. However, the main course was excellent. We had two pasta dishes, and they fully convinced us. The seitan in both dishes was very good! We also enjoyed the dessert, and the wines we chose to accompany the meal paired perfectly with the dishes. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Loved this place. Tucked away near the river. Staff were lovely. Pasta courses were excellent and a great tiramisu to finish. Check out their sister place Magnolia for pastries too.

Perfetto!!! - Edit
I was excited to try this place and had the best food! Felt so bad that I got anxious and didn’t speak Italian too well, but the staff was friendly & helpful. I had the pizza steaks along with a pistachio cake. Both were amazing! The cake melts in your mouth and has an amazing flavor. The seitan steaks were cooked well and the grilled veggies on the side were a great touch. Couldn’t recommend this place enough!!!

Delicious pasta and dessert - Edit
Several days later, I'm still thinking about the carbonara I had at La Lanterna. It was fantastic, exactly what I'd been hoping for!
Read moreFirst of all though we ordered bruschetta, which I did not enjoy much. The bread was a bit too lightly toasted for my liking, yet at the same time it smelt like it was burnt (it didn't taste it, but whenever I raised it for a bite that was all I could smell). The tomatoes were really fresh and tasty, but the dish was a bit under seasoned for me, I would have loved more salt, garlic, and oil. I was a bit surprised that it was served with a pot of guacamole as well - not sure how those two elements go together.
The carbonara got things on track though. I was worried it might be quite a small portion because it was about the same price as the bruschetta, but it was fine. The sauce was really creamy and flavoursome, and the meaty strips were savoury and delicious. My mum tried the basil and potato gnocchi, and was a big fan. She loved the basil flavour running through the gnocchi and the crunch from the almonds, and thought the tomatoes were really light and refreshing.
For dessert I ordered the special panna cotta, which was basically a cheesecake in my opinion - a thin biscuit base, a cream layer, some chocolate piped on top, raspberry coulis and some nice chocolate work around the sides and top. I love a rich, chocolatey dessert so it was absolutely perfect for me. My mum tried the lemon tart and raved about it too. She found the pastry really fine and not soggy at all, and the lemon was really tart and refreshing, just as she wanted. The dessert menu is quite long and everything looked amazing!

La Laterna in Verona is a gem for vegan diners. They offer delicious Italian food using only seasonal, organic ingredients. The cosy, rustic atmosphere makes it a perfect spot for a relaxing meal. It's impressive to find such authentic Italian flavors in a vegan restaurant. Highly recommended!

Rich, generous, flavourful food - Edit
We went here without reservation, therefore there was only a table available for 75 minutes. We chose to only order primi and dessert. We had a pasta carbonara, which had a very rich creamy sauce, made less heavy by tiny airbubbles, on the salty side but nicely fitting the dish. This was what I was hoping for in a carbonara.
Read moreAlso, we had a stuffed pasta with a filling of smokey seitan, lightly sweet, sour and salty and very well balanced. The dominant taste and consistency of the pasta was nicely complemented by light/juicy cubes of zucchini.
We ordered the small portion of the pasta, nevertheless it was quite heavy/filling so we decided to skip secondi. We finished by sharing two desserts; the pistachio tiramisu and a hazelnut cream pie.
The tiramisu was quite heavy on the pistachio cream, which caused the cookies (with less prominent flavour) to disappear a bit.
The hazelnut pie was exquisite. Sweet, creamy, hazelnutty filling with a very crispy crust.
The food was good, the portions generous and the service very quick. We could have had three courses in 75 minutes if we wanted. Definitely recommended, also just for one or two courses in little time.
