Tamale is too dry for $28 cost

I’m not sure what to say, as it’s hard to find a vegan tamale and I appreciate that they have the word “vegan“ called out..At least they have it on their menu.

For $28 I honestly expected more flavor and a “yum-factor” when I ate it. It does come with two sides, so my husband and I were able to split the meal which helped with the overall price shock for the lack of flavor. Not sure I could recommend it, but it seems that other Happycow comments feel otherwise.

They share an outside patio with a Mediterranean restaurant that is also on HappyCow. I think I will try them out next time in town.

Pros: Outside patio , Vegan called out on menu

Cons: Tamales very dry and lacked flavor, $28 is ridiculous, but that’s Telluride!

Good vegan options

Get the vegan plate. It’s more than enough for two, especially with the complementary chips and homemade salsas

Pros: Yummy , Good value

Great vegan options

Delicious Mexican food: free chips and salsa, clearly marked vegan options, pricey but a great stop

Great Option

Very glad I stopped by here! Was originally going to the Caravan, but they were out catering; the vegan plate option is a hearty portion of fresh food, the staff were speedy and polite (in spite of the restaurant overflowing with people!) and I’ll definitely come back if I visit Telluride again

5 STAR!!

Not a ton a vegan options but the food was so good it didn’t matter. I got the small vegan plate and it was more than enough food, also had the guacamole, pico and chips. Everything was amazing!! I’m not a fan of spicy food and the dish I had wasn’t spicy at all but packed with flavor. The pico had a little kick but everything else was amazing! Must go in Telluride

Pros: Flavor, Serving size , Customer service

Cons: Non

Really good, definitely recommend

Update 11/10/21
This place is still so good! They still have the vegan place on the menu and vegan ice cream options.

We come here each time we go to Telluride. The vegan plate is delicious and comes with a lot of food. Plus they always have vegan ice cream!

They have vegan ice cream here!

I didn’t get a chance to try their normal menu but I did get their chocolate coconut ice cream which is vegan (they also had just plain coconut ice cream too) Super refreshing!

Great Dinner

I have gone here for both breakfast and dinner and I loved the lunch/dinner menu. The breakfast menu does not have a lot of vegan options and they would not let me order of the lunch menu because it was 5 minutes before the timeframe. I tried to get oatmeal but was unaware it was going to be loaded with milk and butter so I was not able to eat it! Wish the menu was clearer on how breakfast items were prepared so I could make sure to order it in a vegan way. The staff did replace my breakfast though and allow me to eat then order off the lunch menu.

Pros: Food was great! , Staff was willing to replace my meal!

Cons: Larger vegan breakfast options!, Clearly labeled ingredients for breakfast items

Good Mexican food

My husband and I ordered the vegan plate and the vegan tamales (only labeled vegan options on the menu). Tamales were a bit flavorless but I found the vegan plate to be good. There was pozole on it and next time I’ll just order a bowl of pozole it was the best thing on the plate!

Pros: Vegan options

Worst Mexican Food Ever!

This is the worst Mexican food I’ve ever had. I had the vegan plate and it was horrific. I would never eat here again.

Great food - good service.

They were super busy on a Monday night but took time to answer my questions. Unlike so many places in our prior ski town visits, they were happy to "orient" us to their counter style service. Delicious food including the vegan coconut ice cream. Hope to eat there again before we leave!

The most popular restaurant on Main Street

My husband and three children had lunch at this restaurant yesterday. To be specific we took out from the caravaan next door and were served indoors at the main restaurant. We are strictly vegetarian and the person behind the counter was very helpful. The falafel was crispy and the Laffah bread was light and fluffy the Techina was lemony and delicious. The fries were bit soggy but the Greek salad and babaganouj were also delicious. The atmosphere was happening with lots of locals. I would totally recommend the food. The caravaan has only outdoor seating and only serves till 5pm (but you can eat indoors at cucviba de Luz like we did).

Pros: Fun atmosphere, Lots of healthy options, Very veg friendly

Cons: Funny smell in restaurant

good food, poor service

My husband and I did a Colorado, New Mexico trip. When in Telluride we went to La Cocina de Luz, as we found it on Happy Cow. This is a place where you go to the counter and order, you take a number to your table and they bring the food. I ordered the Vegan Plate, my husband got an order of enchiladas. The man at the counter (the owner?) was very unfriendly, and no one comes back to check your table after the food is delivered. We watched the owner with the regulars and he was equally unfriendly to them. The food was really good. The atmosphere was casual. If the food wasn't so great, I wouldn't recommend it, but it was really worth it. I found that the locals in Taos, Durango, Salida were all very friendly, but the people who work in Telluride seem very unhappy and not friendly at all for such a tourist area.

Pros: great food, healthy cuisine, good value

Cons: unfriendly staff, no service
