Opened early-2015 by the owners of La Camelia sushi takeaway. In addition to vegetable sushi, this food bar also offers organic wine, juice, and cake; spreads and hummus; seitan, tofu, and tempeh with sweet and sour sauce umeboshi; and more. In the the center of Bilbao, close to the river and town hall, with plenty of seating. Open Mon-Thu 13:30-23:00, Fri-Sat 13:30-00:00, Sun 13:30-23:00.

Estuve hace muchos años por primera vez y la hamburguesa se me quedó grabada en la memoria por estar seca y algo insípida. Como ha pasado tanto tiempo desde aquella vez, he vuelto hoy por curiosidad. Pues me he quedado gratamente sorprendida de lo buena que estaba la hamburguesa „La Nueva“. Así que volveré pronto.

We hadden de salade en de tofuburger. De salade was heerlijk maar wat te veel (zoute) dressing, ik adviseer de dressing apart te vragen. Water is gefilterd bronwater zonder chloor, in glazen fles geserveerd. De hele kaart is plastic-vrij.

Hummus with toasted bread and Carrots, smoked tofu in pitta (but was a burger bun cos pitta had run out) with potatoes which were hot and salty 😋, maki rolls and a chickpea salad. All great.
Dessert was the chocolate mousse (good) and the cheesecake (fab)
Staff were delightful
Wine was so light and so cheap I'd go back just for that

La Camelia's sushi menu including two starters and 6 big makis is great value for money. I went at peak hour in midst of Bilbaos annual festivities, thus waiting time was quite long (one starter arrived after 45 minutes), drinks got mixed up, which I didn’t mind as I had empathy for the staff. Apart from that, I thoroughly enjoyed both of the starters I chose: the beetroot gazpacho was rich and creamy and their version of a Russian salad with shiitake and pickles was my highlight. However, the fillings and brown rice of the makis weren't so much to my liking, so I wouldn’t repeat the sushi.

Went with a family and shared a lot of stuff. Sushi is a bit unnecessary in my opinion, the brown rice and the combinations of flavors are not my thing. But I really enjoyed the rest of our order - burgers had a lovely veggie patty and nice toppings, gyozas were amazing, seitan pita was also very good. Chickpea salad had a lovely vinaigrette and the lemonade was amazing. I would definitely go again.

Read moreI had the delicious burger siempre. First bite was amazing. I finished it in two bites! I was there with my omni partner, vegetarian son and very picky omni daughter. They had the hummus and potatoes with the seitan. They loved it too. Would definitely recommend.

We arrived at 5:30pm and they were open until 8pm.

The server came by our table several times, now not even looking at us, we assumed he was very busy.
When everyone was served, he didn't even come out.
So I went inside, 2 men were in the kitchen, noticed me, now didn't even look at me.
When I said, can I order, the man replied no not possible.
When I asked why, he said we are cleaning the kitchen for the next 2 hours.
So you will close now and not open again.
He said sorry and smiled me away.
Not even a drink or things the kitchen was not needed for possible.
Very disappointing.

The salad was nice but the pita with seitan was very disappointing, as it had a super thin slice of seitan. I wish vegan restaurants in general catered for normal appetites, instead of just serving little food bites.
