Disappointing - Edit
We were very excited to visit this place and we feel let down. The decor is very tasteful and the menu looks appetising. Unfortunately the portions are tiny and lacked flavour and textures were weird, especially the eringi hotate and uramaki. We enjoyed the cocktails and inari sushi were a treat. Maybe we didn't pick the right items...

This place is fantastic - Edit
The food is really great. You get a little bowl of miso soup at the beginning, it’s complementary. If you want to delight your taste buds try Kusaki. You won’t be disappointed. Besides, the atmosphere in the restaurant is really nice, they have great decour and the staff are incredibly professional.

We loved all of the food, it wasn't cheap but we had a great experience and it was a treat for a special occasion so it was worth it. The cocktails were unique and delicious. The small plates were a good size and we were all really full by the end of the meal. We'll definitely visit again.

BEST MEAL IN BRIGHTON!!! - Edit
This was hands-down the best meal we had the WHOLE time we were in Brighton. We decided to go to Kusaki on a whim on our last afternoon, following a recommendation from a member of staff at another vegan cafe.
Read moreWe were greeted warmly by a member of their team and shown to one of the few tables they had remaining for walk-ins (we were extremely lucky, as everyone else who walked up whilst we were there, were turned away).
The food was exceptional and very well-priced for the standard of food on offer. The staff were extremely attentive too and made sure we were well looked after!
My personal highlight was the puddings, these are the BEST vegan desserts I have ever eaten. The Purin was a Japanese style crème caramel and the miso brownie was out of this world.
Do yourself and favour and book a table at Kusaki - you will not be disappointed!!!
Pros: Full vegan menu, Beautiful decor & welcoming staff, Delicious food and drinks

Fantastic evening - Edit
The ambiance and food were fantastic! So thrilled to have tried this spot, the food was excellent. Highly recommend the Bao Buns and Tempura. The Bang Bang Tenderstem was quite spicy, but delish, and I would probably pass on the pickles next time.

The Food here was good but not mind blowing. The playing is very pretty. The portions were perhaps not worth the price, but for a special occasion this place is certainly worth a go.

Some portions on the small side, eg salad, but overall very good. The service was a bit brisk, with plates being cleared before everyone had finished eating.

Outstanding Vegan Japanese Food - Edit
Kusaki takes vegan Japanese food to a whole new level. Yes, it’s expensive, but save it for special occasions and it’s a complete delight to the sense. Everything was beyond expectation, with the complementary miso soup being the BEST miso I’ve ever tasted. That goes for the bao buns and the inari too. The aubergine was wonderful, we enjoyed the mocktails, and the purin (traditional Japanese pudding) was beautifully spiced. Not to mention how gorgeous the food looked. The ramen was a little too sour for my liking, but the service, decor and ambiance made it all in all a special evening. Hopefully I’ll be returning for my birthday.

Good ramen - Edit
Sunday evening there's not so manu options in Brighton. After getting super cold by the seaside during the storm (lol) it was nice they took us without booking. Very pleasant staff, delicious ramen and I had a side of pickles, they were sort of very mild for me. We also got complimentary tiny miso soup

Disappointed - Edit
7 of us, all veggie or vegan went as it sounds so perfect. The place looks great but the food was not that good. I couldn't eat my ramen, it was so salty. I ate the Katsu curry instead (which I wouldn't have chosen as I never like it, chip shop curry sauce is better!). We had to remind them of dishes they had forgotten, they bought 6 complimentary misos for the 7 of us! It was expensive, very small portions and all 7 of us didn't like something we had. It's a shame coz it's such a great idea but they need to do it all better. The cocktails tasted fantastic and looked great, but not one of us felt any alcoholic effect and they were before we ate, so not much alcohol and £10 each.

The best meal we've had in ages! - Edit
We went for the tasting menu that had been advertised when they first opened, to find that they had changed the menu and no longer offered it. However the waiter said he would select many dishes for the table. We had about 10 dishes between four of us. Everything they sent out was brilliant, and it came very quickly. There was barely a grain of rice left, we then had desert which was also great. My Lychee and Pear Tarte Tatinne was the best desert I have had in a long time. We didn't try the sushi, but we will definitely go back to do so!

Disappointing - Edit
We had a disappointing meal at Kusaki. Although we had booked and requesting dining room we were placed in the bar at a table with everyone backs to us which was not very atmospheric. The food itself was either bland or really salty. Not worth the money.

Good service, nice venue, food lacked flavour. We ordered 7 items and three cocktails. The items that stood out were the deconstructed cheesecake and sesame greens. The sushi was poor (you'd be better off going to itsu). Boa buns really not good.

Good ambience, tasty food, but needs a little something extra - Edit
Very nicely styled interior, everything from the paintings on the wall to the fine cutlery and glassware was clearly thought about.
Read moreStaff are very friendly and attentive.
Food was generally good and you can tell it's all high quality ingredients, but the food just lacked a little more of a punch. Yes, the flavours are intentionally delicate but whilst on some dishes that balance was perfect (Dashi Tofu, Sesame Greens), on some others it just felt something was lacking.
Cocktails are interesting, very delicate but tasty, and on the run up to Xmas definitely recommend the Wabi Sabi, very Xmas vibes!

Not quite what we were expecting - Edit
We ordered a few small plates and said that we would like these first for starters, and we also ordered our 'main' from the large plates. But everything came out tipsy turvy as the food was cooked, mains first, starters next, then then the pickles. I understand that some fast food places do serve dishes as they are cooked, but this was different as we wanted the lighter dishes before the heavy flavoursome Katsu Curry, and we just hadn't expected it from a place like Kusaki. Had we'd been told at the time of ordering then we could have amended our choices but we were not. We were expecting more of a fine dining experience, but we felt rushed, and unfortunately unable to appreciate each dish especially the lighter dishes after the flavours of the Katsu.
Read moreWe were disappointed at the quality of the dishes, the sushi was mushy as was the breaded sweet potato, the tempeh was tough and bland, and the shockingly tiny amount of tofu tasted like tempeh. Overall we left feeling that the evening hadn't gelled together very well and that we'd paid a rather expensive bill for a fast food experience were the food seemed dressed up.
Pros: Fully staffed , Nice decor
Cons: Overpriced, Uncomfortable seating
