Good empenadas

The two vegan empenadas were good, not really savory, but good nonetheless. The dipping sauces made up for it.

The side salad was underwhelming; a few leaves and a slide of tomato on top...
The side rice was old and dried up; crunchy from sitting around for too long before being served...

Pros: Clearly labeled vegan options, Good empenadas and great diping sauces

Cons: Sides could use some work and care.

Amazing flavors

I came here at 9:45 on a Sunday morning and it was pretty empty with no wait (which in Durham can be a problem for brunch times). I ordered the yucas bravas, a coffee and the dirty dancing baby platter (which is a lunch item). The jackfruit was insanely good. The server was very kind and helpful and their lunch menu is very large and has a fair amount of vegan options or options that can be made vegan. For breakfast there are very few options but you can order lunch any time which I liked. Will be back! Cozy seating and warm atmosphere.

Good food, but was served meat

I ordered the jackfruit. They brought out my plate and it looked like pork. Had my omni husband taste it to confirm it was indeed pork. I sent it back and got the jackfruit. It was delicious and the portions were large. However, I hesitate to go back because I'm not confident my order will be vegan.

Pros: Tasty

Cons: Long wait for food, They served me meat

Very good

I was needing some fried food so I sampled a lot of items. Tostones were quite over cooked but other than that, my meal was delicious. The black bean soup was a huge quantity and so incredibly flavorful. I didn’t see any butternut squash in my empanada - only beans - but it was still delicious. I’d come back when the craving hits.

Yummy Boriqua food!

This food was outstanding! I ordered the jackfruit, and I made my son try it before me, because I thought it was his meat order. He tried it and said he thought it was also meat, and he is a meat eater! After confirming with the restaurant that it was indeed jackfruit, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and could not believe my pernil was fruit. My vegan empanada was also delicious! I can’t wait to go back!!

Pros: Vegan options clearly marked, Delicious food , Ample street parking

Delicious!

My husband (also vegan) and I went here for lunch today and it was really good!

They had empanadas that had wild mushrooms cooked in red wine, and a delicious sandwich that I can’t remember the name of. For the empanadas, they had a size chart AND had a special sauce that was vegan! (They switched it out for us after asking if we were vegan.)

Everything was good, but it was a dense meal.

Pros: Good options, good prices, knowledgeable staff

Not too Shabby

Pretty good selection of vegan options for a PR restaurant. Clearly marked vegetarian, vegan and GF items on 5h3 menu, but you can also make substitutions to make non-vegan offerings vegan (such as subbing jackfruit for chicken/pernil/etc.).

Biggest problem is that even if it's vegan or you veganize it, it'll still come with non-vegan sauces (in unsustainable containers to boot).

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Can veganize many non-vegan dishes

Cons: No vegan sauces, Uses non-compostable packaging/plastic cutlery

Delicious vegetarian food!

Wonderful flavors combined to make unique flavors. We had the Dirty Dancing. The beans and rice were top notch! The eggplant was crisp and delightful. I'd definitely recommend.

Try the Don Jacinto!

I didn't realize Jackfruit could taste so meaty! Delicious and affordable. Can't wait to try the vegan cubano.
