Cute Neko Cafe - Edit
Stopped in for lunch. Sitting for about 10 people. Selection of baked goods and a couple small meals with a large selection of hot and cold, non-alcoholic drinks. All vegan. I ordered the soy meat dish and it came with a choice of salty lemonade or mint tea; I ordered the mint. All was very tasty and priced good.

Delightful little vegan cafe - Edit
Friendly owner who was happy for me to practice my Japanese over a pot of refreshing Nepali black tea. There is a small kitten nic-nac shop in the corner so i bought some cute handmade cat toys. I didn’t eat but the menu looked delicious.

Warm vibes - Edit
This place felt like home. Nothing fancy about the style of the place and no over the top food. Just a lovely owner with a love of cats and great cooking abilities! We got the curry and the stir fry with the salty lemonade and the chai tea. We also got the coconut gluten free cake as a treat. All were delicious. There is also a small shop with some vegan foods and cat related items. We bought a cat toy with catnip in.
Read moreThe owner told us on arrival not to use sanitiser or perfume as he is sensitive to strong smells so I advise you not to use anything strong smelling before you go.
Pros: Feels like home, Cat related

Cute place, solid food - Edit
Very solid and tasty food. Small shop and friendly owner. They note that they don't allow use of hand sanitizers, hand creams, or perfumes (especially musk scents). Thought the portion size was a little small but price was accordingly reasonable so no complaints.

A delighful little cat-themed café - Edit
We were lucky enough to have this little café just around the corner from our hotel, so we could try their curry for lunch - it was a good portion of home-cooked food and we loved it. The salted lemonade was also very nice. The cats are a theme but there are none in the shop. I found the owners to be very smiling and welcoming. Show them some love if you are in the neighbourhood !

A delightful little stop - Edit
This small cafe/shop was a delightful little stop on our morning stroll. Kitten obsessed, obviously, and a very thoughtful experience. We loved the Kitten Company tea bowls and the little whisks to stir your tea with. As cute as the name implies.

Calm escape from the madding crowds of Kyoto - Edit
I was starting to go nuts with all the crowds and this place popped up on Happy Cow. I was walking away from the station already, and this place was nearby.
Read moreWhat a stroke of luck!
You go in, and there is peace. A friendly waiter, with a friendly smile. The place is small, but that's a good thing. It's both a restaurant and a shop selling an almost random collection of things that they describe as "Rations for vegetarian travellers in Japan. It is hard to [find] vegetarian options in this country". There was vegan mayo. Italian Pomodoro tomatoes in cans. Eden brand mustard and apple cider. Chocolate Chip Cookies! 😄
The food was great. I had a simply made but complex tasting curry. Spice tea. And a really nice scone.
Finally, they really like cats. There are no cats there, but there is a lot of cat paraphernalia.
:-)
Pros: Peaceful, Very welcoming staff, English was fine

Cute place - Edit
The place is really cute and cozy. There are no actual cats in the restaurant but it is full of cat photos and displays. The curry and the cocoa drink are really good. A dish that feels like home. #Veganuary

It was OK! - Edit
The food is presented very kawaii. It was okay, and small servings for the price you pay but it is all organic so it is fair enough. The owner does give you that paper about no sanitiser etc.

Small cafe, good food, nice owner - Edit
Lots of reviews stating they didn’t like the ‘vibe’ or how the Japanese owner handed them an English written leaflet stating a very reasonable request, that he had intolerance / over-sensitivity to creams and sanitiser. Personally I think these reviews are left by over- expectant big-city customers. If you like small independent cafes, cat merchandise or tasty cheap sandwiches/curries, this is a delightful place to visit.

Nice place 🐱 - Edit
We came to this place to have some dessert and were kind of hesitant due to previous reviews. But the restaurant was actually very nice and the owner was really friendly (he even let us stay a bit longer than the opening hours). He only asked us to not use any hand sanitizer/lotion when we sat down, but wasn't pushy about it or anything. We ordered chocolate cake and a basil rose tea. The cake was honestly a bit dry, but tasted very good - the tea was amazing.

The whole operation is run by one person. He has a very strong "peace and love and non-violence for everyone" vibe.
Read moreHe is quite particular about patrons not using sanitizers and lotions before coming into the shop and will ask you about it upon entry.
The menu is short and sweet. The food portions are just enough for one person and taste like a nice home made meal.
Many other cafes and restaurants in the area shut down from about 2 - 5 pm, but this place was open when we needed a late lunch.
The shop has some very specific cat related decor, though I didn't see any live cats in the space.
The owner is very friendly and gladly chats with people who want to engage.

Delicious food - Edit
Such a cute little place, serving delicious affordable vegan food in Kyoto. We had the curry and rice, with a side salad and rice milk. It was absolutely delicious! The owner is a very sweet man who took his time to get to know us and share a little about his loves with us. We are happy to have found this gem!

Wouldn't go back - Edit
Like others before me have already stated, we were greeted by being given a piece of paper saying we should not use any hand lotions or care products with chemicals in order not to disturb the purity of the air and that we could be asked to leave if emitting chemical scents (or something like that). I don't remember the exact phrasing, but it felt quite strange to us and we weren't sure if we were even welcome there. However, the staff were friendly once we accepted the above mentioned bizarre terms and conditions.
Read moreBecause it was raining heavily, we decided to stick around. We both ordered tea and I ordered the falafel sandwich, which was incredibly bland and dry without sauce. They also sell a selection of organic products and books.
It pains me to write something this negative about a vegan café, but truth be told, the overall spiritualist vibe was alien to us and meant that within seconds of arrival we were sure to leave as soon as it would stop raining.
Pros: Easy to find, Inexpensive
Cons: Strange vibe

Not for me - Edit
When I came here the owner showed me a print saying something like “please do not enter if you have used any (hand) lotions, body products or perfumes. We do not want a bad smell”. He further explained they didn’t want any products to be used in their restaurant because they didn’t want any chemicals in the environment. It was a bit strange and felt very unwelcoming. I would have liked to try the rice meal set but because it was 11.30 they only had 1 meal option, the curry. It was a small portion compared to curries at other places and I ate a convenience store onigiri after coming here.

Felt uncomfortable - Edit
The owner was nice and we liked the place. We had two pitas and they we're tasty! However, upon entering we were handed a leaflet saying something like "Please don't enter if you used hand sanitizer, lotions or perfumes. You may not be allowed to enter because we don't want a bad smell." We were then sitting at a desk for a couple of minutes without being handed a menu, and we were not sure if all if that was the owner asking us to leave?! Since we did not use any of these products before coming to the store we stayed, and eventually the owner gave us a menu. Then he opened the door to the noisy street, and we were again not sure if it was a not-so-subtle sign that we were not welcomed or whether it was just because they were frying something. We felt uncomfortable and did not now what was going on, probably we'll not visit again - sorry.

Cons: We did not feel welcomed and didn't understand why, Waited a long time for food
