Most of it vegan - not true!

Ok, yes, Modi - the owner - is a nice and friendly guy with a beautiful story of how he started the resraurant. He also said, the Egyptian cuisine had a ton of vegan dishes, and his menu was mostly vegan, and he also used to be a vegetarian (red flag), so we got really excited about going there for dinner.

When we came, most dishes on the menu had meat in them. When we asked what vegan options they had, Modi pointed out the salads, the falafel and stuffed vine leaves for starters, and 2 or 3 dishes for mains. That’s not mostly vegan… Ahem, how many people want to eat a salad in a restaurant? So, we were left with an eggplant dish and something that looked and tasted like yesterdays leftover pasta (spaghetti, fussili and macaroni together) with chickpeas and fried onions. Both dishes were rather underwhelming but quite expensive. We did get falafel and tahini for starters and they were ok. But we were kind of tired of falafels being “the vegan option” in all restaurants. Anyways, we expected a lot - flavour, options, variety - and got very little. We also both felt very bloated and just unwell after the dinner.

In terms of ambience, it was kind of weird. The place has a lot of Egypt-themed statues and little trinkets. It also has a stage and a floor seating area which is probably cool when a performance is on. But we were there on a Tuesday night and we were the only customers in a massive dining room with all the statues around us and repetitive arabic music. It felt very weird, tbh.

To top it off - the toilets were horrendous! In the female toilets there were 2 cubicles, both of them hadn’t been flushed, and I mean the full package here. The toilet paper was rolling across the entire floor, and it was just filthy. It was a quiet night, we were the only customers, surely they would have had time to check the toilets. Nobody did.

Not recommending the place and not going there again.

Very accomodating to vegans and gluten intolerant.

Ate here for lunch. Whilst the menu does not list vegan or gluten free the owner who served us was very aware and a lot of dishes were already vegan or became vegan with the removal of the yoghurt. Food was delicious, we had vegetarian share plate, a spinach and rice curry and a traditional Egyptian dish that has pasta and fried onion. Was delicious!

A vegetarian Pharaoh on the water

Amazing service and passion from the owner. Gorgeous atmosphere and great music. We loved our visit and cocktails. The owner made a delicious juice for our little one, brought her Egyptian themed colouring-in sheets and pencils, showed us the statues, and we danced the afternoon away on the stage area. We ate on the balcony overlooking the beautiful view and our food was delicious and so tasty. We will absolutely be back and recommend this restaurant to families and couples. We felt the pride and heart of this restaurant and hope they enjoy much success.

Pros: Atmosphere, Service, Kid friendly
