Le sucré est excellent (cheeseckake ). Le salé est très agréable. Un petit peu léger (en quantité ou en protéines). Joli endroit et belle surprise de trouver une adresse full végane sur le chemin.

a large selection of absolutely delicious vegan cakes and pies! the drink are good too and the staff is very friendly. only downside is the limited space to sit and it gets busy quickly (which is only natural since the food is so good)

Kato Gâteaux is alles wat je zoekt in vegan eetgelegenheid: hip en hedendaags concept, mooi en gezellig ingericht, volledig plantaardige kaart met ontbijt - lunch - gebak, vriendelijk personeel… Ben je in Mechelen, twijfel dan niet om hier binnen te gaan en je smaakpapillen heerlijk te verwennen! Ik voelde me direct thuis.

I just had the broccoli soup and toast and it was delicious. I also ordered a rose iced tea which was more like soda water without a lot of taste. I got something similar in Germany so I think iced tea means something different here in Western Europe for those of you used to getting cold brewed tea when you order iced tea.

Leuk plantaardig lunchzaakje met lekker eten. Zoete aardappel wafels gehad met een topping van o.a. hummus, granaatappelpitjes, avocado en mijn vriend had empanada's met een salade. Beide erg lekker en verrassend vullend (het leek niet zo'n grote portie maar was voldoende). Uniek eten. Lekkere speculoos latte gehad met hazelnootmelk. Mijn vriend had chocomel met havermelk (de chocoladedruppels krijg je er los bij). Ruime keus aan plantaardige melk. Helaas kan er niet van de ontbijtkaart besteld worden in de middag (alleen zondags), ik had graag de pancakes of wentelteefjes gehad.

Personeel was vriendelijk, locatie is midden in het centrum (handig) en dichtbij een parkeergarage.
De ruimte binnen is niet zo groot maar wel mooi aangekleed en er is een terras dat vrij groot is.
Prijzen zijn aan de hoge kant, maar nog wel te doen. Gebak is wel vrij duur. Lunchgerechten rond de €13,50 - €15

Cons: Prijzen wat aan de hoge kant, Wc op 1e verdieping (trap op), Alleen zondags hele dag ontbijt te bestellen

Place to go for a relaxing, cozy & yummy moment! - Edit
Every time I step into Kato Gateaux, I instantly feel at home. The staff is always warm & friendly and eager to help you pick something on the menu. They make fantastic combinations for tarts & cakes - my favorite is ANYTHING with coconut. I often some here to write/blog while sitting outside on their terrace, sipping my iced cold latte in my Billie cup (Yep, they believe in recycling too!) Next time you're in Mechelen, this is a MUST GO!

When we saw on social media that Kato Gateaux was going vegan we thought, great, we need to go and test it out.

We ordered 3 different meals we ate in the shop and got 3 desserts to go.
The presentation was ok.
The taste and quantity not so:
- The €13 cauliflowercouscous with sweet potato, apple, chickpeas, mint, ciboulette, pumpkin seeds, almond shavings was ok but grossly overpriced and not inspiring at all, we can serve you this at home any day of the week.
- The €11bowl of "egg salad' was half a bowl of spinach leaves, some roasted sweet potatoes, tomatoes, the 'eggsalad' and 2 half pieces of bread. Again grossly overpriced and not at all what we expected to find. The best thing on the plate, the sweet potato, that seems to be the major theme in this place.
- The €12.5 Sweet potatoes waffles with avocado cashewcreme, chili flakes, pomegranate seeds and cilantro. This was the biggest disappointment of them all, not the freshly baked waffles you would expect, but stone hard bricks with 8 pieces of non ripe avocado on it and some cashewcreme in the middle with yes a beautiful flower on top and some pomegranate seeds and chili flakes. When trying to cut some waffle a lot of brute force was needed and some pieces ended on the floor. This plate leaves you with a bad taste due to the poor amount and even worse quality.
This is so not what we where looking for when going out for a vegan lunch.
We told ourselves it's "Kato Gateaux" so maybe we did the wrong thing ordering a meal, thus we decided to choose 3 pieces of cake to take home and taste.
Our choice
-The € 4.5 lemon cake was nicely topped with sugary edible flowers and a crunchy sugary topping. But other than being beautiful it could not tantalize our taste buds and left us with a strange doughy taste in the mouth.
- The € 5.5 carrot cake topping was the worse I ever ate, it was as if licking sugary butter , the cake itself was uninspiring the nutty parts where the best.
- the € 6.5cheesecake with the raspberry coulis, as big cheesecake lovers we looked forward to this one... but here too we unfortunately ended up disappointed. The coulis was nice and the best part of the cake! The cheesecake had a strange granulated consistency and the speculoos bottom was just revolting.
This was overall such a big disappointment, I usually try to find as many positive points even if a meal doesn't measure up to our expectations. But here I struggle. The flowers are nice
