Really good! - Edit
I ordered the "vegan better butter no chicken" sandwich and a home made lemonade. Both were so good!

Relaxed place with decent vegan options - Edit
I like the relaxed atmosphere of this place and the friendly staff. However, it can get busy and then the service gets slow.
Read moreThey have several vegan options which are marked on their in-house menu, but not on their website. They’re decent, but don’t wow me.
I liked their breakfast burrito, focaccia sandwich (sometimes vegan), peachy pancakes and kimchi waffles (although very spicy). Most pastries are vegan, but not as good as vegan pastries I’ve had elsewhere.

Couldn’t be more happy with this place! - Edit
The atmosphere is lovely, it’s people are so friendly and open and last but not least, the food (I often take the cauliflower focaccia) is standing out from anything I’ve had so far in Utrecht. Highly recommend this!

Lovely cafe, good coffee and decent food - Edit
Karibu has a nice vibe to it. They make some good coffee and the food is pretty good. Unfortunately I felt that the kimchi waffles were a bit bland (the kimchi itself was delicious), the waffles themselves were a bit boring and not crisp on the outside. However, my mom had the cauliflower sandwich. It looked amazing and tasted the same. I tried a piece of the cauliflower and it was just so tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. Kombucha was also very good!

A lot of vegan options - Edit
I went to Karibu for lunch. They have a lot of vegan options and it's clearly labelled on the menu. The restaurant is cosy. I was sitting on a swing. The kids in the restaurant loved the swing too. The food is good. I had the crispy fried cauliflower on foccacia bread. The cauliflower was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The homemade Focaccia was really soft and delicious! I'll definitely come back to try the other dishes on the menu and the dinner menu.

Not very African, but good - Edit
We missed the African vibe and flavours. Since that was the main reason for our visit, we were a bit disappointed. The food was good though. I had the hashbrown focaccia with extra avocado. The hashbrown was quite too brown, and thus a bit dry, and the avocado was not ripe enough. My partner had the brunch plate, which contained some really nice tofu and nicely spiced guacamole.

I’m not sure why happy cow says it’s African inspired. That’s hasn’t been their concept anymore for years now

Amazing brunch - Edit
Karibus menu changes regularly but there are always vegan savory and sweet options available! I tried the kimchi waffles 🧇 which were served with kimchi, mushrooms, salsa verde, spring onions and spicy mayo! The waffle was fluffy inside, a little crispy outside and the toppings were perfectly balanced! Yum 🤤 For a sweet option I’ve tried their French toasted banana bread with fresh fruit and maple syrup! It was fluffy and warm, I just wish there would’ve been some more fresh fruits 🍎 Pro tip: drizzle maple syrup over it and then add some sprinkles of salt - makes for the perfect combo!

Delicious food - Edit
The brunch was very tasty. I ordered the Kimchi waffles. Two out of the five options were vegan. It took quite some time before they served the food, which was a downside.

Healthy cosy must visit (vega(n) with meat add-ons concept) - Edit
What a pleasant surprise! Karibu was fully booked, except for one spot so I was fortunate to still get in on this busy Sunday morning. Luckily they have an easy online booking system that you can use. In practice, there was quite a lot of space so even when full online it might be worth calling or passing by. The location is ideal for a relaxed outing, as it is right next to the park. They have a very beautiful sitting area indoors and a sunny terrace outdoors. There is also a rainbow flag indoors and a very cool nook for kids to play.
Read moreI understand the popularity. The staff was super welcoming and friendly. The menu is vegetarian and vegan (clearly labelled, also the gluten-free options) and has a few meat/fish options that can be added upon request and by paying additional fees. So it feels like the roles are reversed compared to general restaurants. There were several vegan options for brunch ranging from acai bowls to hearty meals like burritos. I really enjoyed the avocado matcha pancakes. They were very tasty and the addition of fresh berries and crunchy nuts completed the experience. I also got the homebrew kombucha and fresh juice. The green juice seemed a bit watery but everything else was taste and I am intrigued to try out more.
So even though they serve meat etc, this is a must-visit restaurant in Utrecht.

I come here often even though I live on the other side of town. The space is lovely, very cosy and light. There are quite a few vegan options on the menu, I especially like the scrambled tofu. And there are also vegan cakes! Would give five stars if HappyCow allowed me to.

The tastiest and prettiest acai bowl ever! - Edit
I ordered the Acai bowl that came with homemade granola and toasted nuts, avocado/raspberry/date mousse, chia pudding, coconut and seasonal fruits! It was so delightful and heavenly that just the thought of it waters my mouth! If you happen to come to this lovely cafe and feel like having a healthy (i.e. antioxidant-rich), refreshing and naturally sweet breakfast or snack, I’d totally recommend ordering it.

Little oasis just outside the city centre - Edit
Just outside the city centre one can find this lovely oasis filled with sofas, tables and plants, to spend an afternoon catching up with friends or reading a book while sampling some tasty food. The vast majority of the menu is vegetarian and there is plenty to choose from. My 'winter harvest bowl' with kale, mushrooms, quinoa, roast carrot and various other things was absolutely delicious, and my friend very much enjoyed her lentil soup.

Pros: Something a bit different, Delicious comfort food
