not longer vegetarian... - Edit
On the sign outside is written "vegetarian restaurant", but they serve every dish also with meat!
Read moreWe ate there the mussaman curry and bruschetta. We ordered the one mussaman normal spice and one non-spice, but both currys were extremly spice. The bruschetta was good. Not the best place for vegans in this area.
Pros: friendly staff
Cons: not longer vegetarian, pricey, nothing special

Welcoming small place with tasty food - Edit
When I walked along the street I noticed this nice small vegetarian place covered in warm colours. The lady - I guess it was the manager - was very friendly, helpful and always with a smile on the face. I ordered pumpkin soup, a veggie-burger with salad and a colourful smoothie - everything was just great.

nice food but very slow service - Edit
the food was good, very "veggie" with heaps of salad in the burger. though friendly, the service was quite reluctant and i had to wait long for each step, ie ordering, food, bill. that plus the nonveg options make it 4 star only. the food itself was very good.

Kanlaya Vegetarian, Chiang Mai - Edit
I spun up here on Saturday evening looking forward to eating here based on the consistently high reviews on this website. It was thus something of a surprise to see an insert on each page of the menu stating, 'chicken, beef, pork, fish and sea food' are also available. There are no dishes as such specifically listed on the menu that are non chicken. My co-diner asked the lady who served us what the story was with the insert. The lady was clearly slightly uncomfortable when she answered that basically she has had to make this change to try to stay in business. There's certainly a lot of competition for the vego market in Chiang Mai and indeed very close to this restaurant. It's not on the busiest of roads and Blue Diamond is just along the street which while predominantly but not exclusively vegetarian, seems to be doing a roaring business with the extended target clientele.
Read moreAnyway a couple of dishes were ordered and shared. Both were very nice as was service. There's a couple of tables outside which allow a leisurely view of a nice Chiang Mai street. Something that seemed slightly out of synch to me was the music being played didn't seem to fit with the vibe of the restaurant (contemporary western chart music like Rhianna and Jessie J). Maybe it's just me as I went another all vego place close by the next day and they were playing chart dance music.
I would undoubtedly have rated this place higher if it was 100% vego.
Pros: Vegan friendly, Tasty food, Nice seating available outside
Cons: Not 100% vego

Very nice! - Edit
It is a quiet place that is rather easy to find at the srpoom Corner. Peaceful Food with a lot of great vegan Food like salads, Thai dishes, veg burgers and fruit juices/smoothies. The green juices there are fantastic! The salads come with seperate Dressings and when there is egg within one of them they will tell you. Clean place. Moderate.

Kids were happy - Edit
As most kids like stuff like fast food I thought why not bring my boys (8 & 10 years) to another food-style like this small vegetarian restaurant called Kanlaya to try their food and drinks. They were indeed excited with the freshly made, colorful juices. And the food? As there are also veggie-burgers on the menu the younger tried that one and the older ordered the kaw soi. And see there both of them finished their plate and rated the food as 'not bad' which I guess means it was good. My rating is also 'delicous', I came to this nice, friendly place several times in recent days.

Pure Veggie Food - Pure Care by Owner - Edit
I and my wife are visiting Chiang Mai for 5th time now and eating and finding Vegetarian food in an exclusive Vegetarian food is very easy but this Kanlaya Vegetarian restaurant is, by far, the best we have eaten. Owner, Ms Ratt personally takes care of your order and checks with you on your tolerance of spiciness of food.
Read moreWe stayed in Chiang Mai for 4 days and we had all the meals at Kanlaya and tried almost everything on the menu....each and every food item on menu is delicious, wholesome and good portions.
For all those vegetarins like me, who prefer to eat ONLY at those restaurants which serve ONLY vegetarian food - this is a MUST EAST place.
For Jains like us - this is the place to eat.....she will prepare pure jain food as well..no onion, no garlic, no carrots, no potatoes and also no mushroom....of course, your choice of vegetables then gets limited but there is no limit to her cooking.
We rate her restaurant 5 stars !!!!!
Try her fresh fruit juices with various combinations. A bit pricey when compared to the others....but worth trying it.
Best wishes to Ratt for a very busy season ahead.
best.

Fav Vegetarian Place in Chiang Mai - Edit
We have been to many vego places in Chiang Mai & the standard in some is excellent.
Read moreThis is one of them!
We keep coming back to this one though for several reasons.
STAFF
The woman who owns it is soooo friendly, speaks English really well & will help you learn a few Thai phrases if you want.....she has a smile as bright as the sky.
The other staff are attentive & friendly too.
FOOD
The food is so good (aroy maak kha).
It is made with fresh ingredients from scratch & the taste never alters from excellent every time you visit.
Try the Khao Soi, TomGha & Veggie sandwich.
For breakfast my fav is honey porridge but that is because my tummy just wants something plain.
Sometimes you have to wait a little but only because they make it from scratch.
Thai meals cost 70 baht.
ATMOSPHERE
The restaurant is clean & painted in nice clean colors.
It's just down the street from the Blue Diamond.
Quiet & friendly.
Pros: Fresh ingredients, Clean & bright atmosphere, Friendly staff
Cons: Wait time for food

Best Vegetarian Food In Chiangmai Hands Down - Edit
Amazing food, great atmosphere, and a lovely owner who speaks English very well, is super friendly, and actually understands that vegetarian means no meat, poultry, seafood, fish sauce, oyster sauce, or shrimp paste. This is a brilliant restaurant and in my opinion is the best vegetarian restaurant in the whole of Chiangmai.
