Amazing & flavorful vegan options - Edit
I’ve gotten their spicy eggplant steamed bun, mushroom shoyu soup & mushroom fried rice (with no egg). I love how flavorful all their food is and has the perfect amount of spice!

From accidental egg to too spicy - Edit
This was such a surprising disappointment. We told the kind server that we are both vegan. My fried rice dish was brought out by someone else, and it had a fried egg right in the middle. He offered to replace the whole dish, and I accepted. The new one came out so spicy that I couldn’t eat more than just a few bites. It was unbearably hot. On the menu, that dish was not described as being spicy at all. When I told another server (not friendly or apologetic), she said that the spice is only on the mushrooms and not the rice. I had my husband taste the rice, and he agreed that it was very, very spicy. I just asked for a bowl of plain white rice. Our server came back and offered to replace the dish again, but I told her that we just didn’t want to be charged for it. The white rice was great. My husband had the mapo tofu, and he said that it was good, but not amazing. We had a couple of buns as appetizers. I couldn’t tell them apart, but one was delicious and one was just OK. The hostess and our server were wonderful. The environment was great, but it was such a bad experience.

Outstanding MaPo Tofu - Edit
The already have vegan dishes, labels to indicate what can be vegan or vegetarian, and adapted one dish to make it vegan.

A Knoxville favorite - Edit
If you like flavor and spice may I suggest trying out Kaizen. I’ve been visiting over the years and their current vegan options are too good not to share with you all. We ordered the fried eggplant-was the best it’s ever been. Mushroom fried rice (had a nice portion of oyster mushrooms-don’t forget to omit the egg!) anddd Mapo doufa-Sichuan tofu dish w/ toasted chili oil, fermented black beans, broad bean paste, and fresh herbs served over steamed rice (get the chili oil on the side if you cannot handle the heat!!). We sat outside in the patio-there wasn’t anyone else sitting outside so during the week at lunch time seems like a good time to go if you are trying to stay as covid safe as possible. Everything was so good! I would have given 5 stars if the app would allow it. Will be back next time I’m in town to get the tamari glazed potatoes-YUM

Cons: There is meat on the menu, Parking can be confusing but free under the bridge, Can they open a vegan location please lol
