Best restaurant ever. - Edit
My husband and I go to Julia’s as often as we can, and we always bring friends and family here when they visit. The owner Anthony is an incredible person and incredible chef. He always has some new, creative concoction up his sleeve and continues to Purdue himself. The mushrooms are to die for, so order them on EVERYTHING when you go. You will not regret it.
Read moreHighlights:
-Vegan pizza with truffle crust. Amazing.
-Candy cap mushroom dessert sauce. Tastes like maple syrup, I could eat bowls of it.
-Actually interesting, satisfying salads. I’m usually disappointed by salad when I’m eating out. Not here.
-The artichoke is bizarrely delicious. We eat a lot of artichoke in these parts, but this is the best.
-Mushrooms, mushrooms, mushrooms, mushrooms.
Absolutely 100% go to Julia’s. And then be prepared to return many, many times.
Pros: Mushrooooms, Best pizza in the world, Creative, unique dishes

Lovely dinner - Edit
While on a mid-week trip to the coast to escape the California fires smoke, we went to Julia’s for dinner on a Thursday night at 7:45 and was surprised to find that they are now only open until 8:00, even though the website indicated 8:30; I hate to push it that close to closing. We were still very warmly welcomed and found the drink, food and service to all be very good. The home-brewed kombucha was refreshing, the Fresh Tahini Salad was a great starter, and the biryani bowls were so tasty. Ginger Apple spice cake for dessert was a great finish to a lovely evening out.

Cute Little Place - Edit
Originally this was hard to find because it was in the back of a small shopping center. But once we found it we were very pleasantly surprised with how delicious the food was. We were a little disappointed because they had run out of fresh veggies, but the waiter highly recommended the yellow curry which was absolutely superb with lots of fresh squashes and zucchini Etc. We also had a really great appetizer cauliflower buffalo wings. The salad was small but delicious. We highly recommend this place.

Mindblown! - Edit
We visited here last week on a trip to see family and it ended up being our favorite meal of our entire trip!!! The staff was super friendly and even shared some of the background of the mushrooms used in their foods!
Read moreWe started with a hot chocolate with the candy cap mushrooms and the flavor was absolutely amazing, couldn't believe mushrooms tasted like that! Then we ordered the oyster mushroom appetizer, which was cooked perfectly, super crispy and served with a delicious dipping sauce. For our entrees we ordered the empanada and the curry and split both dishes so we could both taste each dish and WHOA!!! I expected the dishes to be great after such a good start but we were genuinely mindblown by all the flavor!!! Even the roasted veggies served with the empanada were packed with smoky flavor, and again the sauce was great! The curry was the perfect texture and so so filling that we couldnt even finish it!! We ordered the brownie to go and enjoyed it later with even more of the wonderful candy cap flavor. All in all, this was our very favorite place hands-down and it left us craving more and searching online for dried candy caps!!! Thanks for the perfect meal, Julia's!
Pros: Friendly staff, Amazing flavor, Interesting use of wild foods

Tasty, nice presentation - Edit
We were visiting my husband’s aunt & Uncle in the area, it was nice to have a vegetarian/vegan-friendly restaurant to go to. Practically everything on the menu could be vegan (TBH - they should make it all vegan, at least get vegan cheese for the pizzas). I got the faux orange chicken (cauliflower) - the cauliflower was breaded perfectly and the dish came with many veggies. My husband got the seitan bbq empanada (yum!) and his aunt got the yellow coconut curry (looked tasty) and his Uncle got a Greek salad (looked huge!). Everyone was happy and there was a beautiful pianist/singer duet singing nice music. Would definitely come again next time we’re in town!

yummy and quick - Edit
It is a small comfy place with friendly and quick service. We didn’t have a reservation but they sat us anyways. The salad (we got the Iris) came out within 5 minutes. The pizza came out at exactly the right time. Bummer that they only have cow cheese for the pizzas. But they say they add more toppings if you don’t get cheese.

Yummy, repetitive - Edit
Delicious pant-based food. Wish it was all vegan!
Read moreThe foods were a little bit repetitive - we got three dishes and they all had very similar flavors. This is the only vegetarian place in Carmel and one of the only places that you can get vegan food.
The place is pretty dang small (unless there is a back room / porch I didn't see) so it would be tough to bring large parties.
Pros: Only real place to get vegan food in Carmel
Cons: Serves cheese

Julia’s is hands down the best restaurant in the area. It is listed as vegetarian but all dishes can be made vegan.

FEASTED last night - Edit
In from out of town and ate here with my 9 & 11 year old boys-one who believes all green food, except for mint chocolate chips ice cream- is gross....
Read moreOur experience was incredible. I woke up thinking about it and going back to try the tamale pie.
We arrived around 6pm and it was packed. The staff helped find us a seat, rearranging a few things here and there. We had been traveling all day and were starving, irritable and tired. Maybe they saw it in my eyes. There was a musician next to us and it was really very soothing and relaxing to us. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.
What I would like to stress is how our family was heading down that naughty road, being tired and crabby and heading into a vegetarian restaurant. Everything we experienced here gave us the U turn we needed and brought us all joy- instead of arguing. The boys declared "Five Stars" when I said I was writing a review.
The chef and very busy waitress checked in with us numerous times because they cared. Not because they were looking for tips.
We ordered a feast with the intention of taking left over for a picnic the next day. It was all so delicious it was difficult to stop eating and I just ate the rest of it for breakfast. Oops.
Porcini mushrooms were in and we tried both specials- the fried porcini and then as an addition to the sage/mushroom pizza we ordered. The appetizer was expertly prepared, the crispy breading was super tasty and crisp. It held in the juices of the mushrooms.
Two orders of the artichoke with vegan aioli were consumed. The 9 year old stared at my food until he broke down and finally tried it. Delicious. He wants to go back and have another! the chef explained to me how to cook the artichokes for the bag I expect to bring back with me.
The vegetable adverse 9 year old had the Margherita pizza and at almost the entire pie. He was delighted. The crust on both hand thrown pizzas was crisp, not burned and had a springy texture to it.
Everything came piping hot and when it was ready to serve.
We grabbed one of each deserts for later and left satiated, happy go lucky and GRATEFUL.
Side note- I travel for work a lot all over the world. This little restaurant has made it into my top 5 and will be sought out over and over. See you soon Julia's.
Pros: Caring and friendly staff , Unbearable delicious, Great atmosphere & Music at dinner
Cons: Not enough seating, Parking is tight, More options for non alcoholic beverages

My favorite vegan/vegetarian place in NorCal - Edit
I live about two hours north, I come for the food about once a month! I always order the coconut curry (has amazing roasted veggies) the calzone (with seasonal mushrooms) the artichokes (herbed with special sauce) and the squash soup. All flavors are devine! Atmosphere is cozy and earthy. Live music also! Wonderful servers. Anthony is the nicest chef, always willing to share his knowledge of cooking. I cannot rave enough about Julia’s, it is my favorite vegan place to eat!

Delicious Vegan Meal - Edit
We were happy to find this restaurant with vegan options and were quite surprised to find it packed on a Thursday night. We shared a gluten-free pizza with my husband getting wild chanterelles on his half. We shared the brownie dessert with non-dairy ice cream, and it was delicious. The musician was entertaining without being intrusive. Overall, it was a lovely evening with a delicious vegan meal.

Not To Be Missed! - Edit
When a friend on the East Coast told us that the best vegan restaurant in the State of California is vegetarian (and not wholly vegan), we were skeptical. But, we made a reservation, and we were more than pleasantly surprised! Our very helpful wait people said we could order anything on the menu, and it would be veganized. The dishes here are phenomenal!
Read moreWe started with the roasted artichoke which was served with vegan garlic & lemon aioli. Smoky and garlicky, and so delicious; we would have ordered another if we hadn’t already ordered 2 entrees.
The Yellow Coconut Curry was teeming with roasted vegetables (including kabocha squash) and finished with fresh, crisp apple slices. We also ordered the California pizza: artichoke hearts, spinach, quinoa, mushrooms, salt & pepper tofu, and Julia’s signature white sauce.
Both dishes were astounding, and the portions were so generous that we ended up taking 1/2 of both the curry and pizza with us.
To top off the meal (and, we were already more than satiated), we shared the double chocolate brownie with whole cherries and walnuts that was served with soy vanilla ice cream , and crowned with an incredible sauce made with candy cap mushrooms. I can only say that we were swooning at the end of this superb meal!

Great find while traveling - Edit
We were traveling in the area and thought we'd stop by for a vegan pizza. Well, we had the pizza a roasted veggie pizza and also decided to try the special-a fingerling potato and mushroom mole. And Holy Mole it was fantastic. The mole with its many notes and flavors unfortunately overshadowed the pizza but it more than made up the difference. Wow! Well worth the visit will return when in the area.

Wow - Edit
Had dinner there this evening.
Read moreWords cannot express how much we loved this place. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was just delightful. We did not have reservations (though I would recommend them -- it's a small place and they were doing a business), but the owner(?) was gracious and welcoming and found a table for us with a very reasonable wait.
My family and I had two pizzas, soup, salads, a calzone, and desert, all of which were just delicious. The kombucha is inventive and really good too. The restaurant is vegetarian, but extremely vegan (and also gluten-free) friendly.
Atmosphere deserves note as well. Everyone working there was personable and seemed genuinely happy to be there and happy to have us. Friendly but not at all overbearing. Live music was pitch perfect as well.
Pros: Good menu selections, Food was prepared perfectly, Great atmosphere
Cons: We live on the east coast.

half the menu uses cheese but the vegan options are nice! - Edit
I was skeptical at first, seeing that most of the menu uses cow cheese and the vegan versions are just X minus cheese, but everything we had was great! Soup, seitan BBQ, tamale pie, chocolate brownie and watermelon juice float. I also enjoyed the live music :) Great little place. Does look like it could get full easily, and parking isn't always easy to find

Always the freshest of local ingredients. Expertly combined for unique flavors and tastes. The food is amazing! Atmosphere is festive and comfortable with a live guitar player every night. It's a relaxing and cozy place, but not at all too tight. The music is a pleasant background to enjoying the meal. The owner has a genuine passion for giving his diners an exceptional experience. The locally harvested wild mushrooms are a rare treat. It's the best of Pacific Grove.

This quint, 8 seat restaurant is adorable. The tables are made of solid slab wood and so is the flooring.
Read moreThe presentation of the food is probably the best I have ever seen. The taste of the food was delicious.
On Wednesday nights, it has live music with a gentleman with his Mandalay. The music made the small restaurant more like an Irish pub and it was way too loud.

Pros: Lovely Visuals, Taste of Food
Cons: Loud music, A little pricey
