Delicious “ribs” - Edit
I had to try the ribs after reading so many great reviews, and they did not disappoint. How’d they get that much flavor into one little morsel is beyond me, but they did and it was delicious. I was pleasantly surprised that the portion was larger than expected and even came with a small side of brown rice and miso soup. We thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait to try out their other menu items.

Decent Chinese food - Edit
I ordered the spring rolls and kung Pao tofu. Spring rolls were great. Kung Pao tofu was decent, but not great. No free refills on soda. Service was good even though they seemed pretty busy with takeout orders.

Awesome spare ribs - Edit
A good variety of options, and with a mixture of tofu, seitan, and other soy protein variants. Went with a large party, and though I got the rice bowl with mint chutney (which itself was nice and filling without being too heavy), I had a few bites of the spare ribs which had a very nice crispy yet saucy flavor

Delicious vegan/vegetarian asian food - Edit
Absolutely loved this place. Fully vegetarian, I eat mostly vegan and this is what I would call a nice asian vegan place. I went with a friend, we ate inside and the owner was very kind. We had the drinks although the mint drink was a bit too sweet for me, but the food in general was delicious. Would definitely come here again.

Great Chinese food - Edit
Amazing variety of options. The portion I received was huge, so worth the price - had lots left over. Said leftovers didn’t heat up super well but were still tasty. Dumplings I thought were just okay. Complimentary brown rice and salad also helped justify price. Would order again!!

A very large menu - Edit
I came here for a late lunch and feasted quite nicely. I got the garden rolls and the general tso’s chick’n. The rolls were great. I thought the gt’s was light on veggies, heavy on fried chick’n, and the sauce was too sweet for me. It was fresh and flavorful, just not what I expected. I finished with a slab of chocolate cake, which was very good. I think it was Vegan Treats’ cake. I could be wrong.

Holy Vegan Ribs - Edit
So my partner wanted to try JuJubee Tree super late at night, but I was too full from dinner and just wanted a Mango Lassi (which was excellent). Turns out I took one bite and probably ate over half of the whole dish. I've never been so excited about a plant meat in my life. The rice, the sauce, the texture, the crisp... ✨️chef's kiss✨️. We are repeat customers of those ribs and will definitely be trying more, but they were so good I'm giving them 5 stars. Yup.

nice local vegan restaurant - Edit
Jujube is my go to place to get vegan and I have tried probably most of the dishes so I am going to list ones I like -
Read moreI love their bowls - my favorite is Korean but they are all good.
I love their pumpkin and miso soups. I am not a fan of hot and sour but that is a personal preference.
For mains - black pepper seitan, vegan BBQ ribs and sizzling soy cutlets are my favorite.
Noodles - like most of them but favorite - udon, cold and pad thai (careful if you can't handle spice and tell them in advance as these can run spicy).
For sides - I love their steamed pumpkin.
Desserts are fairly standard in NY and I think they get it from outside. I like peanut butter bundt, death by chocolate and peanut butter mousse.
I find the owner funny - he projects at times grumpy vibe but I find him and all the staff really nice. Since I called so many times they know what I want most of the time and I really feel like a neighbor. If you are in Astoria go and support them.
Pros: options, welcoming vibe

Too expensive for subpar food - Edit
We had the vegan BBQ which was ok and would've been better if it wasn't slightly burned. The seafood vegetable was awful please don't get that. The wonton and spring rolls were good. I would probably come back if it weren't for the steep prices and terrible parking situation ( 25 min). I wish I would've ordered the sweet and sour and citrus protein.

Good but could be better - Edit
First off - I'll definitely be back to try more menu items as I can sense it could be hit or miss depending on what you get. That being said, for Pan Asian food, Luanne's Wild Ginger (4 locations, mostly in Brooklyn) is wayy better.
Read moreI shared a seitan skewer appetizer and it was good but not exactly what I expected (it said satay sauce but it wasn't exactly that). I also got the udon stir fry and it was just ok. The browned tofu wasn't really even cooked, it was just thrown on there, also the sauce was just fine. Nothing spectacular.
Thai iced teas were yummy and service was great. That being said it was nothing mind blowing and while I won't be running back, I'll definitely give it another chance and try something completely different. It's a great option if youre in the area, still not any other vegan restaurants in Astoria yet (kinda shocking tbh).

Delicious food, bit pricey - Edit
I was visiting from out of state and this was my first time trying Jujube Tree. I had the curry puffs, which were delicious, and the sweet and sour soy protein meal which came with brown rice and miso soup or a salad. The curry puffs are filled with some blended veggies and the waitress said she thinks also some soy protein, and is served with a delicious mint chutney. I did also like the soy protein dish, but I wish they had more whole food plant-based meals…a lot of the dishes seem to have highly processed soy, instead of whole soy like tofu. I also thought the price was a bit high for the entree.

Good Vegan Asian fare - Edit
As seems to be the case with a lot of US Asian restaurants, the food tends to be sweet and the only hot sauce available is Sirachi and there is no chilli oils and Jujube Tree is no exception here.
Read moreOver all the food was good beside this. We ordered Steamed Spinach Shumai, Fried Wontons, Vegan BBQ Ribs, Summer Rolls BBQ Satay Tempeh, Hot and Sour soup, Stir-Fried Udon Noodles.
The summer rolls, Steamed Spinach Shumai and BBQ Satay Tempeh were decent but I expected the satay to have a peanut sauce and it didn't.
The highlights were Fried Wontons and Hot and Sour soup.
The Hot Organic Apple Cider Juice with Cloves were amazing a perfect winter warmer.
The pumpkin pie cheesecake was really good but a little too heavy for me.

Pros: Hot Organic Apple Cider Juice with Cloves, good fake meat vegan fare
Cons: food is a little too sweet, could use chilli oil or a sauce not Sirachi

The best of the best - Edit
I came here with one of my friends looking for some good vegan Asian cuisine and this place absolutely did not disappoint. We got hot tea and shared a plate of the sweet potato glass noodles, the ribs, and finished with one of their chocolate brownies. I think about this restaurant literally every single day but I was just having it on a trip to New York and every time I think of coming back it’s mainly so that I can eat here again. I made sure that I ordered exactly what I ordered the first time a second time before leaving. If you’re local to this restaurant you absolutely have to try it.

Amazing Asian vegan food! - Edit
If you are looking for your Asian food fix you MUST visit Jujube Tree! I stopped by after a friend raved so highly about it and I wish I would’ve come sooner. The food is so delicious and flavorful, it more than satisfied my craving for Chinese food. It’s has all the goodness of your favorite dishes minus the animal cruelty, doesn’t get any better than that!😄

I guess I'm the odd one out - Edit
The only good thing about this place for me is that it's a vegan restaurant. I have probably had more than half the menu items from Jujube Tree so far. I really do not understand the high ratings. I have also had the same dishes multiple times because chefs can have bad days, I thought. But the food has been consistently mediocre to occasionally bad. Since I'm vegan, I will still order from here but only when I'm really desperate.

I was actually recommended to go to this place by some non vegan meat eater friends who just happened to eat here and loved it! I’ve been a few times and it’s always a good meal. Place is 100% vegan so no need to worry or make substitutions! The last time I went we decided to get dessert for the first time and It was the perfect dessert to find in Astoria.
